11.30.2008 - 14:00 | NeonLightsSomehow the slow review makes it more interesting. After hearing Doug going 1000 words per minute, it's nice to keep the pace low for a movie review.
Hope Phelous does more, loving the videos.

05.28.2009 - 09:15 | Kurvos1000 words per minute? Well, actually; not really. Ever watched Zero Punctuation? That dude talks LITERALLY 1000 words per minute in his reviews.

I love the slow pace! It's just... different, ya know? It compliments the others on the site well.
Also, I lost it with the "I hooked the sheriff" song. Best laugh I've had in a while. Keep 'em coming!

Much, much better than the first one. And I agree, the slow voice actually works here. The bored/sarcastic attitude fits this guy well. If he were trying to be angry, like the Nostalgia Critic, or excited, like the Bum, it would suck, but this guy actually has a knack for being a smart alec. I rather enjoyed this. I don't know if it was laugh out loud funny, but honestly there wasn't any time when I thought I didn't want to finish it. Also, I think the intro was a nice touch. A bit of the AVGN's skit-method, but not over the top. Really, just well done.

11.30.2008 - 15:16 | doctorwillyThis isn't a bad review, but nothing really draws me to it. This isn't a video I would eagerly share with my frds. For now, i dun really want to see him on board. He can still experiment with his ideas and put it on youtube or his own website until he's found something really cool. I believe he can do better

Not bad at all...yea, i also think you shouldnt overuse this being-bored-thing but it works great in those scenes where there are people running and screaming all over the place (which is about 50% of any slasher movie). Although the writing is very clever "Yes, He was a teleporting zombie fisherman!" :)
Oh and the whole slasher-genre is perfect review fodder! About as stupid as movies get and THE ENDINGS ARE ALWAYS THE SAME! GAWD!!!

This felt like it had a more suitable pace to your slow style and it became more entertaining to watch. Much of the opinions and sarcasm sips through the monotone voice. But it had a couple of moments it just got embarrassing, as in the moaning and groaning that seemed to go on for too long.
And I also still don't know where I stand... if he should be brought onboard or not. This was a better example of what you do and your style, I'll admit that but I'm not sure if it would be fun to watch too many of these videos either.

Man was he miscast. Seeing Jack Black get shanked is kinda surreal, I'm so used to seeing him in comedic roles I find myself laughing at his death scene too..........at least these movies were entertaining in one aspect.:)
Another interesting review from the nefarious Phelous. I still appreciate the monotone dialogue and dry wit and he still gets my vote.

This guy's a bit hit or miss. Looks like he's just getting started, and could have some potential for zing after zing, but I don't know.

..I know it was done as a "joke". I just didn't get what the joke was supposed to be.
Anyways, I still am not sure whether I would put this guy on board or not, if it were my choice. His voice is still making me drowsy, and his face expressions sometimes get really irritating and make a good joke or point fall flat. However, editing is pretty good, the review flows nicely and the points - those that somehow transcend the slow delivery and needless grimacing - are pretty good. For instance, I can totally see NC using the exact same script and coming up with a terrific review.
So basically, I think it should be a waste to ditch this guy, but perhaps his place is not in front of the camera but behind it. His scripts and editing skills seem to be top-notch, but he just isn't charismatic or talented enough to pull it off as a complete package. As of yet, that is, I would still like some more material before final decision (and no, I don't consider that "other" 5-second whatever neither clever, nor funny, it's just a meta-joke gone bad that I think I'll ignore).
