Silent Hill lost it's raison d'être a long time ago. So they decided to go back to it's roots and destroy the reason the series became popular in the first place. And the fact that it's on the Wii isn't encouraging. That system has crushed the gaming soul of Nintendo. They have "forgotten the ground." Look it up.

12.31.2009 - 23:44 | tootiredThe game is on the PS2 and PSP btw with the wii version being the most advanced one.
Btw a lot of people who like Silent Hill find this game to be a fresh breath to bring life back into Silent Hill. Also people who never played Silent Hill also like this game.
People who found the rest of the Silent Hill games not scary at all find Shattered Memories scary.
Being able to fight the monsters takes away a lot of the scared factor.
Also how the game has a huge plot twist and the multiple endings is making a lot of people consider it better then Silent Hill 3 and 4 and the rest of the Silent Hills. Some people even think it is as good as 2 or even better then 2.

Well the team that did them, Team Silent, isn't at Konami anymore. Akira Yamaoka was the last one and recently left.
:(
I think Shattered Memories is more of a step in the right direction from Homecoming.
I also liked the game play in 0rigins for the most part so I think they are probably capable of doing a good job.
Shattered Memories story was pretty good I thought too but like I said it didn't really need to be a "re imagining".

12.16.2009 - 17:15 | karma21186Ah man why no last point of view game rating in the end of the video? that reminds me of playing a good story game and getting a slap in the face because of a crappy ending or a incomplete ending, bs lol.
-
12.16.2009 - 17:12 | karma21186really? You think part 4 was perfect? that was the downfall of sh, it was a failed idea and they should of made it as a separate game title like they have planned in the first placed. Yet in the end of the project they just slapped the title of sh on it.

Hey, Phelous, I feel your pain, trust me. SH: Shattered Memories sort of works as an interactive movie, but it fails as a video game. The graphics are great, but running away from monsters gets old quickly.
WARNING: DON'T BUY THIS GAME. It's good as a rental, but not at full price. The only good thing about buying it (on Day One) is getting that kickass soundtrack (which I saw in the background, don't think I missed it, Phelous!)

I never played the original Silent Hill game, so perhaps this will help me get into the backstory a little better. And the chance to change the characters each time definitely seems like it adds to the atmosphere. But I'll rent it first and try it out before I make the decision to buy it or not.
Thanks for the review, Phelous. BTW, have you ever played Okami?

Not at all really for the original's back story,
this one is completely different. Just Harry can't find his daughter, Cheryl, and searches thought Silent Hill to find her.
Just those bare basics to the plot and some names are the same.
Yeah a rent is a good idea for this one for sure.
Haven't played Okami, no.

When I play the first game I had the same experience as you phelous. "What!? What is this?" 'A clocktower...' Ohhh I'm back at the begining and wait I don't remember that music before... maybe I should enter the school...okaaaay creppy bodies..
Also I remember the cat scene, it was scary and hillarious.

Phelous,
I like this review the game seems really disjointed and glitchy but hey that the wii for you. The Silent Hill film is something I will defend as it is better then anyone has any expectation fot it to be and there fore is actually good. The film itself uses the imagery of the film but yet seems like a really good horror film. I think the film deals with the guilt both the town and the mother have other the treatment of their children

I've already played it all the all to the end once and i'm currently on my second run and so far I find it quite a refreshing change, after all seeing how people complained a lot about the combat being either clunky or well ... homecoming style, for me no combat seems like a logical solution or at least a nice experiment.
But now that you mention it I do miss the "other-world" not having the hanging corpses and other things that made it extra-creepy.
All-in-all i'm really enjoying the game, but yeah, you can probly do most of the endings if you play it a few times if you rent it in a weekend.
