Top 9: Best Movie Songs
Written by Paw Saturday, 31 January 2009 19:42
Movie songs or music too, so in my quest to be non-exclusionary, I'm counting down my picks for best movie songs of all time. Probably not from the movies you're thinking of either..

So when Paw comes out with his Mary Poppins review in a little while, we have a pretty good idea of what the Best song will be. But what about the Worst?

Not what I expected, but awesome anyway.
LOVED that you put in Daft Punk, it's my favorite soundtrack ever!
And Nightmare before Christmas, excellent.

Some Unexpected Choices but I really enjoyed the list. One thing that bothers me is that Interstellar 5555 movie. I never heard of it, I personally do not find that music entertaining and I find it just plain weird.

Having a possibly unhealthy love for anime songs myself, I definitely understand the desire to honour one's favourite movie songs like this. This video was great to see! The reasoning for your choices was well-considered, and the information about the movies themselves was usually interesting to know (only one correction: Henry Selick directed Nightmare Before Christmas; Tim Burton created the original source material and produced). Awesome job! Hope to see more like this in the future. :D

Honestly I can't believe you didn't include the Gone With the Wind soundtrack. If there was any movie with a moving and powerful soundtrack, it was that film. I think the Star Wars soundtrack was deserving as well, or really any John Williams score at that.
But I do love this video and I do agree, music can really make or break a film for me.

01.31.2009 - 09:58 | UnderqwertyuiopI saw clips of that Daftpunk movie on Argentine television. I was always wondering what the hell it was as I was too young to comprehend what was going on. Now that I know what it is, I must thank you Paw.

Is it wrong that I squee'd out loud once I saw (and heard) the first couple seconds of "Interstella 5555"? Everything you said about that movie (and, to certain extent the "Discovery" album) is on the money. That and I agree with the Death Coach in "Darby O'Gill and the Little People" being pretty damn creepy.
I've already been a pretty big fan of your prior videos but this one sealed the deal for me. I'm already waiting for your next video with eager anticipation.
You rock, Pawdugan! ;D

Dude... this is a fantastic video. I was happy enough that you had The Producers and The Nightmare Before Christmas in the lineup, but when I saw you included The Addams Family, I literally cheered. The entire list was well-chosen and diverse. I really want to see Darby O'gill and the Little People now that both you and the NC have promoted it. The one song I was surprised to NOT see: Over the Rainbow performed by Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz. I was expecting it. Still, great list!

A few rather questionable songs that I've never heard of, but I'm not so much of a music nerd, rather I'm more a fan of the movie itself. Honesly, when I saw number 4 on the list, I shat myself. I thought that Interstella 5555 didn't get enough recognition as it deserved. Me being a Daft Punk fan since I was 8 (now being 15), only seeing the first 4 songs/scenes at that time, it took me until about 3 months ago for me to actually watch the movie, and to say the least, it was a spectacle for the eyes and ears. Good list, and hope to see more of your stuff in the future.

01.31.2009 - 10:35 | dancergirl88Cool list. I've heard of most of these, but it was cool to see some that I hadn't.

No Indiana Jones Theme? Really, no Indiana Jones theme. I can understand if he was just doing songs, and not music, but he said soundtrack. Not one John Williams theme made your list? Also, he included the Pirate theme which defined those movies as well, but he never mentioned it. I would have chosen "Steppin' Time" from Mary Poppins instead. Anyway, your video has made me want to listen more closely to the music in movies, and watch Mary Poppins, again.

You shoulodn't have! I love your videos (Although 'Full circle' as a title reminded me of Full House at first). You and Linkara are my favorites on this site and I can't even type out my joy at seeing your great videos.
I liked a lot of the songs you put in this top 9 list, including Daft Punk's music-video of a movie,The Good the Bad and the Ugly, ESPECIALLY the Nightmare Before Christmas (What can I say? Danny Elfman is magical), and THE GODDAMN (no, not batman) ADDAMS FAMILY MOVIE SONG! Such a great selection!
Just one suggestion(all music fans need to put in their two cents on everything right?): "Man on the Moon" by R.E.M. from the movie "Man on the Moon."
Anyways, great job and I hope you make more interesting segments with your Full Circle series.

It was HENRY SELICK that directed 'The Nightmare Before Christmas'; Tim Burton was one the producers for the movie since he created the story and characters.

Why is there still no rating system for your videos? I wanna give you a few 5/5's already.
Nice list. I don't have much to compare it to, but I do agree with what you did pick. I actually saw that Daft Punk Anime video. Thought it was someone dubbing an AMV at first, but then realized that it was the whole thing!
