09.13.2009 - 00:00 | dontknowdontcareI get the reasons for not including them. I was also disappointed at the lack of Zelda, but the fact that it's been seriously considered is good. Twilight Princess is a personal favorite among vidoo game soundtracks.
You mentioned a third part?

09.13.2009 - 08:04 | Vivianepaw, i respect your opinion on music, but i think you really missed one of the most amazing guys in computer gaming music: Frank Klepacki, creator of the scores in c&c 1 & 2, red allert 1 & 2, universe at war and a lot of other rts related music (check out his site http:// www.frankklepacki.com/[/ url] scroll down to the bottom for a miniplayer with a lot of examples of his works).
at first i thought you missed him because you weren´t into strategy games, but your mentioning of civ 4 proofed me wrong, so there is no excuse for not mentioning him if you come up with a third side note.

09.13.2009 - 00:31 | Mario64I still miss "Ballade of the windfish" from Link's Awakening
This Music from Civilization 4 sounds great.

09.13.2009 - 01:53 | dragonofcrystalI noticed that you never mentioned still alive from portal. I thought it was the mainstream factor but then in this video you mentioned the end song from halo 3 which is even more mainstream so whats the deal? Still alive is one of the most memorable songs of all time. I understand why it wasn't in the original vid because that game is so mainstream but I don't get why you didn't at least mention it here.

The Metal Gear Solid series has always been one of my favorite game series 'cause of it's awsome plot, gameplay, graphics, music and voiceacting (David Hayter is amazing). I especially love the "Snake Eater" song.
Anyways, nice list.

Eh, I wasn't too fond of this set of Side Notes myself. At least the previous one had that Ducktales song (despite never playing the game, that Moon music was nice). It might just because I never got into the big series of Halo, Legend of Zelda, and Metal Gear Solid.
Or maybe I was holding out to see if Grandia would be mentioned. I mean, how awesome is this: http:// www.youtube.com/watch? v=LGiNEaNxOxo
And about that comment with Lost Odyssey... Come on, man! There are tons of songs that give One Winged Angel a "run for its money" or are just flat-out better (at least in my opinion. Personally, I don't hate the song, but it's not that special compared to other music I've heard).

Three things:
I just LOVE the civ 4 soundtrack, and when I was still playing it i had to just sit down with the song playng in the menu screen before I could start playing. Every single time!
You just spoiled the ending of one of the game series I was going to get when I but a 360 (Halo), but I guess its my own fault for not getting it earlier :s
And at last, if you've played any of the GTA series I think you should have included the opening for Vice City! But that's just my opinion, and you have your own I guess :)
Or maybe thats one of those you forgot? :silly:

So... still no regret about not including the Kingdom Hearts (either one) soundtrack? I guess that's to be expected. With the exeption of the two opening themes (Simple and Clean and Sanctuary) there aren't really that many long bits that aren't just looped 45 second phrases. Of course, that doesn't make "Traverse Town" (KH1), "Hollow Bastion" (KH1) or "Destatii" (KH1 again) any less awesome.

09.13.2009 - 02:51 | KostaThank goodness you included Baba Yetu on this list. To be entirely honest, your homage to that song is the reason I created this account. I have seen so many fans of various game soundtracks blow off this song, simply because they have not played, or because it has vocals that are not about love or some other JRPG bullshit. So, yes, thank you very much.
On a side note, I was curious as if you had sampled any of the soon-to-be stateside MMO Aion. I personally have found the variety of music in this game simply amazing for an online game. If you so wish, here (http://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=Lfsk8SIXY-4) is a link to the Log-In screen, and let me tell you, when I first heard this music, I was ready to immerse myself into this new world.
Thank you so much for your music reviews and countdowns. It is entertaining and interesting to hear you bring up such old memories to such a wide audience. Thank you.

09.13.2009 - 02:56 | ShmooglavoueSome other songs that I think would be noteworthy for "mondern gaming music"
Otherworld, the final boss battle from Final Fantasy X
Room of Angel, from Silent Hill 4: The Room
One More Soul for the Call, from Silent Hill Homecoming
Something from Skies of Arcadia (Having trouble singling something out)
Live and Learn, final boss music from Sonic Adventure 2
And finally, from Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, the track that plays at the start of Maximillian Rovais' chapter.
Btw, long time whatcher of this site, first time commenter, so hello everybody! :)

09.13.2009 - 03:06 | CubeI really recommend Banjo-Kazooie. If the amazing music isn't burnt into your head then you probably haven't played it.
I also didn't notice any music (other than the dun dun dun....dun dun dun one that starts when Nathan Fillion starts talking) when I played Halo 3.

09.13.2009 - 03:17 | darkfireYou should look up the Common Prairie Field theme from .hack games. I fucking love that song.

Dude! You have completely forgotten Golden Sun -series!
Here is a little reminder.
http://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=LTnJVNYCW6g
Yeah, it's a remake to Brawl, but who cares!
And it's two songs in one. Felix's battle theme and the last boss Doom Dragon's music.
It's the most epic thing I have heard in a while.
-
09.14.2009 - 16:56 | ChronischeDude, I was JUST going to say that!
I prefer the Saturos theme myself. http://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=iEjqqUTz-us
And that's only a quarter of the way through the first game!
-
09.13.2009 - 03:59 | DezedorHad to pause the video just for this:
Civilisation! WOOO!!!
Dam, I love that song. Often find myself spending extra time setting up the game options, just to listen a little while longer.
Anyway, going to watch the rest now. ^^

Omg I cried a lot while playing Lost Odyssey. I thought Aeris death was sad and nothing will ever beat that down, but after reading first story from 1000 years of dreams I had waterfall of tears falling down from my eyes. I cried at the ending. The cool thing about final boss battle was that, that you really felt how epic it was. I only regret that I already knew the soundtrack before playing the game.

would everything from samsh bros brawl be too obvious? i mean you dont have to play that game, just close your eyes and listen.
also i would have liked to have seen metroid prime from the game cube. i always thought that the background music was a big part of the dark atmosphere to that game.
and i suppose any of the little incidentals from pokemon would have nice. that stuff got nailed into the minds of my generation with a fairly large nail gun
great vid though paw, opens your mind to some great music and great games you'd never have heard or played before otherwise
