YAAAAYYY!!!! You reviewed it! I went to the roadshow in Anaheim, best night EVER! Your review was spot on, and it's awesome that you're a fellow fan :) Personally my favorite song is between Beautiful Stranger and Grace For Sale, but we all have our favorites :) I'm so psyched about the next episode of Devil's Carnival!!!!

12.07.2012 - 18:21 | Ronin_wolf23Hate to be "that guy", but in an interview with the talented Emilie Autumn, she said the girls are actually supposed to be Bedlam girls, or suffering from what we like to call "Bat shit insane." The more you know, I guess
But none the less, another great review from you, sir!

HOORAY!!! I've been looking forward to this review forever! Great job Paw! I'm definitely looking forward to the 2nd episode! And yeah, I kinda couldn't help but giggle at the chewing of scenery done by John during Grief. Overall though I love it and listen to the soundtrack all the time! Although the songs I usually skip are Heaven's All Around and In All My Dreams I Drown, but to each their own. You made me a very happy sinner for reviewing TDC so thank you!
(Also you should have mentioned that The Major of the Hellharmonic is played by Saw veteran J. LaRose aka Troy.)

I LOVE Emilie Autumn! She's an amazing violinist and vocalist. My favorite song by her thus far is "Marry Me", a song about how a woman is betrothed to an ugly rich guy, but she intends to bang another man on the side. There's a great line in the song, "Then I take a glass and I slit my innermost thigh so then I can pretend I'm menstrr...well, unavailable."
I have such a crush on her...too bad she's not into guys...or women either.

Wow, I am ALREADY sick of that Footlocker shoe ad.
Anyway, good video, but... well, I haven't seen either movie, but based on your reviews, this doesn't seem to intrigue me nearly as much as Repo. Not sure why. Possibly my love of rock opera and/or symphonic metal.
Speaking of, Nightwish did a music movie. Imaginaerum. Saw the trailer, doesn't look like my cup o' tea. Could be worth a look at, though.

Ever since I saw the video of you opening your copy of the dvd, I figured a review would have to follow shortly after. Nice little December treat!
While I love Terrence, karma has this horrible way of having him do the road shows either out of my reach or when I can't afford to go. But as someone who didn't see it live, it's still quite an experience if you make it so. This luckily popped up on Netflix right before my Halloween party, so me and my friends had a carnival masquerade (yes with masks and all, we are that damn geeky) and watched it together. I'm not saying it lived up to what it would be like at the road show but it totally was still a blast to watch and went over surprisingly well for not having any horror in it. I agree that it is pretty damn impressive for a labor of love and that its total sum of awesomeness overpowers the weak spots. I'm not surprised that they got enough to start on the second chapter.
And yes, I love Alexa Vega too, but I really wish she didn't sing. The woe maidens were kinda unnecessary except for background eye candy. Horrible yet true.
Great job Paw. I love the film and can't wait to see where they take it, but I was getting tired of fans claiming it to be perfect and getting crap for having a few problems with it. It's hard to be objective on a project like this and I think you did good not letting the fanboy run the show.

Devil's Carnival certainly looks interesting. However, I don't think the road show will be coming to my state anytime soon. I liked Repo, but I don't know yet if Devil's Carnival is to my taste. I like weird and uncomfortable movies, but if it's too weird, I stop taking it seriously. I do feel bad that you have to do another Christmas Carol movie, Paw. My university does the play every time during the holidays. I've never gone to it because I've been there for six years and seeing ads for it gets old fast. Can't they vary it up a bit? It would be great if they did Miracle on 34th Street or something along those lines. Hopefully, you got the Muppet version this time around. That one is at least fun to watch.

My own personal theory is that the devil is incensed at the rules of hell that dictate that he punish people he doesn't think he should be punishing, and that he actually has a sliver of compassion (mixed with oceans of vitriol). See his line about it being god who kills innocent children, not him. That he let John go, deciding to break the rules that govern both the damned and himself that he thinks are unfair. This then leads him to rebel. Er, well, rebel again. Second time's a charm?
Anyway, no idea if that's right, but it does add a few more shades of complexity, which I like. Just have to wait for future shows to see, I suppose!

I was hoping someone might do this film, but in my mind I had been picturing Oancitizen for some reason. I don't know, would this classify as an 'art film'?
I want to see this but it has to be ordered online and I don't do that. I don't trust ordering things online, plus I have no credit cards. Of course, I live in Atlantic Canada and hardly anything ever comes this way, at least anything I'm interested in, so I never saw the theatrical screenings of Devil's Carnival. I also don't have Netflix.
Unfortunately, the same can be said for Emilie Autumn's stuff, which makes me, as a fellow Plague Rat/Muffin, rather sad. Also, I would like to point out that two of the Woe-Maidens are part of Emilie Autumn's tour group, the Bloody Crumpets, or at least one is. Contessa just recently left.
Of course, this makes me want to get the Devil's Carnival soundtrack as well, especially for Prick! Goes the Scorpion's Tale. Again, Plague Rat talking.
For those of you asking, 'Plague Rat' and 'Muffin' are terms for Emilie Autumn fans. 'Plague Rat' being the more often used one.

12.08.2012 - 02:55 | ClintonI'd love to see another musical Oancitizen review.
I have a friend who went to some of Emilie Autumn's concerts. As someone who's big into steampunkish music, I'm jealous.

...Thanks for posting to day Paw, I know it might seem really weird, especially for this particular video, but you really took me out of a dark place. That aside I'm glad Terrance is still making movies can't wait to see this.

Paw, you're the reason I decided to check out Repo! and it is now one of my favorite movies of all time, so I'm pretty sure I'll be taking a look at this too. Sounds like it's not up to the same musical quality as Repo! but given the very different style (not to mention funding) of this production I'll probably still enjoy the Hell out of it anyway, no pun intended.

You have no idea how happy I am to see this review. I went to the roadshow and it was amazing. The film was great, Terrance Zdunich, Darren Bousman and Hannah Minx were all at the Dallas stop (which I noticed was in the review. The guy yelling into a mic, he was cursing a lot.) I seriously hope there is another installment because the Repo! team does incredible work. And I have to admit, one thing I love about Zdunich and Bousman is that they really care about their fans. I'm handicapped and could get to where they were signing autographs, so they came to me. To anyone that gets a chance to meet them, you will not be disappointed.
Paw Dugan just made my night by reviewing "The Devil's Carnival".
