I'm so happy you place the Evil Dead trilogy above all else. I do the same. The one difference being that Army of Darkness is my favorite movie of all time. One of my favorite things about the villains in the Evil Dead movies is their inconsistency. They're all just having so much fun, and they don't seem to care if they win or die. Things like Ash's possessed girlfriend just sitting there and singing to him instead of just killing him just make me jump with joy. As well as the trees... having their way with Cheryl... and then just letting her go. Also Ash's reaction to his girlfriend being possessed and saying creepy things to him just being "Shut up, Linda!" Like... dude... I'm pretty sure that's not Linda anymore. It gives you the feeling that the demons are just totally unknowable and chaotic.
I actually liked Evil Dead 2 less than the first and last movies because the demons seemed so much more prone to just killing everyone as quickly as possible. Except for insanely awesome moments like everything in the room, including Ash, laughing like psychopaths the demons didn't mess around much.
Army of Darkness had all sorts of glorious demonic skylarking. So many skies were larked that I have watched that movie at least 50 times. The certainty that the demons were going to do something bad to you, but that it could range from a mean practical joke to straight up liquefying you was the epitome of demented evil.

01.09.2012 - 10:46 | HeneTremors was a pretty fun movie. It's been a long time since I saw it, but I still remember some stuff. Like how people stand on the rooftops and yell at some guy to get higher and he just sits on a tire. Then those worms got intelligent all of a sudden and made a trap for their tractor, afterwhich they easily fooled them to get away from couple of guys and to die. Selective intelligence, giant worm's one weakness.
I think you've mentioned somewhere before that the Evil Dead 2 is your favourite, so I knew that would be the last one. Nice to see what other movies you like however.

01.09.2012 - 11:42 | aunt_zeldaRick Baker "the Monster Maker," did the werewolf effects for an American Werewolf in London. It was the first time that someone won an Oscar for "Best Makeup," before that year the category didn't exist, makeup artists got "Special Achievement" awards. Just something I thought was cool, check him out, you've probably seen a lot of his work!

Knew Evil Dead Trilogy would be at the top because it is the best, and I agree Evil Dead 2 is the best of the 3. I've never thought of the first one as funny, maybe because I saw it when I was like 7 and it scared the hell out of me, but I love it just the same, and the movie me and my brother rented over and over again was Army of Darkness. We watched those movies in the wrong order, but we apreciated them, and they are in my top ten favorite movies.
Since most of these were horror comedies, what about House (1986) or the sequel, those don't suck either. Anyway great list, now I gotta go watch the 5 movies on it that I haven't seen.

This was a really fun list. I was surprised that I've actually seen about 2/3rds of the movies here. Makes me feel like maybe I'm not so lame after all :P
Have you seen Slither? It's a Nathan Fillion movie from a few years back that I thought did a pretty good job of mixing horror and humor. Seems like it would be up your alley.

Ok. Could someone PLEASE answer my question that I have asked three times already in three different OL video threads. Every video on this site plays fine except for Allison's videos. Specifically, her last 5 videos. All of her videos before then played fine. Since the beginning of December, they're all playing choppy. The audio is fine, but the image seems to be showing one frame per second. My questions is, does anyone know why it's doing this, why only Allison's videos and how can I go about fixing the problem? If anyone can help, PM me.

AbsintheMinded:
Have you tried watching the videos outside of the TGWTG site (try to find her on blip tv). I've had film lag fixed by doing that before. If that doesn 't work, clear your browser's temporary catch file or try watching them with a different browser. I have a feeling that it's caused by a corrupted temporary file. I have had no problems viewing her videos on my computer.

01.10.2012 - 02:07 | TheMediaNice list...and I;m surprised as to how many I have actually seen even though I;m not a fan of horror....Evil Dead doesn't count because it's Bruce Campbell [as according to my friends]. But I have to ask since you have the Evil Dead trilogy as one of the best....if you have seen it, what do you think of the Evil Dead musical?

I think Witches of Eastwick is a good genre movie, I highly recommend it. Was also surprised not to see House on the list, or Ginger Snaps (a totally underrated werewolf movie).

This list has shown me how uneducated and ignorant I am to the wild and wacky world of genre flicks. SO many movies I have not seen, only seen reviews of... this must be remedied. Remedied POST-HASTE, which means like, SUPER-REMEDIED.
Also, despite me never having seen it, I would like to see Lupa do a review of Jack Nicholson flick "Big Trouble in Little China".

Its surprising how many of the movies on the list (3/4) I have seen considering I dont go out of my way to watch "genre movies" (in fact I didnt even know what it was until the review), which means most people have probably seen the "best" in genre movies without having to watch the crapola. Usually if its a big budget hollywood its more surprising to find a decent non-shitty movie.

But Ghostbusters? Everybody knows that it is a great, magic, movie! Not to mention Jurassic Park - one of the greatest adventure movies of all times!
The Frighteners and the sadly overlooked Stranger Than Fiction are both good movies to talk about. I'm always glad to see people promote them, because they deserve a wider audience (even though The Frighteners have recieved a fanbase over time).

01.10.2012 - 09:05 | BlinvyOh my gosh, Lupa! You and I have such similar taste in movies. I have never met a single other person that heard of or enjoyed Fright Night before that remake came out. Same thing with The Frighteners. I love that movie, I love most movies that can thrill and frighten me while still making me laugh sometimes. You're also the only other person I know of that has heard of Silver Bullet and knew it was based on Stephen King's novella/short story Cycle of the Werewolf.
This is a great list. I really want to check out the ones I haven't seen since everyone that I have seen on your list, I love as well.

If we're talking horror comedies , we need to talk about the recent TUCKER AND DALE VS EVIL (2011).
Every horror film fan needs to see it, turns the genre on his head, with the hillbillies misunderstood as the villains while the teenagers are actually the crazy people. What a brilliant concept! Alan Tudyk (Firefly) and Tyler Labine (Reaper) are a perfect duo. Some brilliant one-liners and memorable moments.

I have actually seen all bar about four of these movies. Little Monsters, Jekly and Hyde the Musical, the weird mirror blue thing which I missed teh title of and Repo The Genetic Opera.
(And The Silver Bullet sort of but I know of that and have caught parts of it before. I read a lot of Stephen King. )
For the record as a big Lost Boys fan who was around in the 80's I would actually recomend The Thirst. The second sequel. The Tribe was awful but The Thirst managed to regain some of the old magic and was quite enjoyable.
I am so glad to see Transylvania 6-500 in there. Practically unknown and cheesy as get all but I loved this movie.
As we seem to have a hell of a lot of the same tastes may I recommend a few Cult movies you might want to see which you may not have?
Namely, Repo man with Emelio Estevez, House Trilogy, Puppet Master Series, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, Electric Dreams, Jacob's Ladder, Vamp and most of all Wolfen.

01.11.2012 - 16:44 | loontjeOf the 30 movies on your list i saw these ones:
sleepy hollow
the craft
jurassic park
Edward scissorhands
beetlejuice
gremlins
death becomes her
splash
little shop of horrors
repo the genetic opera
You'll problably notice that I might be a bit more of a "mainstream movie" than a "genre movie" type girl. But no, these movies definitely don't suck as far as I can tell LOL.

01.11.2012 - 21:50 | OverratedRileyLots of your picks I'm 100% behind you on. I LOVE American Werewolf in London. Stranger Than Fiction, Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, Jurassic Park (I actually love 3 because it's so bad), The Craft, The Lost Boys, those are all also really great movies I can watch over and over again. I've only seen Evil Dead 2, but it was awesome and I need to watch the rest of them. Anyway I enjoyed part 1, will watch part 2 next.

01.12.2012 - 07:06 | JimmyBGremlins was originally written as an out-and-out horror film. Chris Colombus' original script had the Gremlins kill the mom (Billy arrives home to be greeted by her head rolling down the stairs) and the family dog. When Spielberg became involved, he changed the tone a lot. He also changed it so Gizmo was the hero. Originally, Billy was supposed to kill Stripe by opening the blinds in the store and if you watch that scene you can see the edit.
Good list, I love most of the choices too :)
Btw, hurray for countdowns!
I really have no idea what it is about countdowns that is so amazing, but time and time again I must see them. :O
