Wow. Awesome. I was a huge fan of the show. I knew about the movie, but I've never seen it. Evidently, this is why that decision was a good thing...
AGH! OH MY GOD! I'M BEING ATTACKED BY THE NINETIES! AAAGH! MAKE IT STOP!
...Dear God. Five seconds into the dialogue and I miss the witty snark of Joss Whedon's writing and Sarah Michelle Gellar's impeccable delivery of that dialogue. I honestly can't imagine the Buffy I know and love ever sounding like this much of an airheaded idiot.
Yes, Buffy, listen to the creepy, unshaven middle aged guy in the flasher trenchcoat.
I can see why Joss Whedon disregarded this version of the movie when he started the show. I'd be interested in seeing his original script which is still in canon with the show.
Heh. I was half expecting Paul Reubens to say, "O, I am slain!"
OH MY GOD! YOU MANIACS! YOU BLEW IT UP!

I've read that. And then years after the orign, they also made some prequel comics to bridge the gaps between the origin and season 1. Also worth checking out, and for you linkara fans it's a chance to actually see some of Fabian Necizca's(Yeah I know I mispelled, sorry) good work. and By the by... good episode lupa.

I agree Themonsean. That was one of the longest movie deaths I've ever seen in a movie, ... and also one of the most hilarious. XD
I never knew Buffy started out as a rather blah movie. I'm glad that the quality increased so much when it started the TV series.
Also, NOOOOOOOOOOO! You can't just blow up like that and leave us. We need you to tell us about things like Cynthia Rothrock. YOU ARE TEARING ME APART, LUPA.
...
Sorry, couldn't resist. :snicker:

09.26.2010 - 02:53 | TrencherI think your way way to harsh on this silly little movie. First off its a 90'ties period piece and a parody of horror movies. Thats why everybody is dated and acting like fools. The mythology is simple, the slayer is reincarnated. The reason for the previous slayers and watcher to played by the same actors are to show that it was them in a previous life. They did not actually look like that. Its not like now where the movies explain every little detail or nuance by beating you over the head with exposition. The watcher is supposed to be a creepy concept and the vampires are supposed to be fruity and stupid looking! Its a parody, not only on the horror movie troupes but also on the mindset behind the "Hot girl kicks ass while the watcher watch and also are in charge for some reason". You see Buffy is different from the other slayers she does not feel bound to the old world concepts of duty and honour and she can do what she wants, which include punching her creepy watcher in the nose when he shows up in her locker room throwing knifes at her. Fighting to save her friends but still have a normal life. I think the movie will stand the test of time much better than the show.

I was with you until the last line...the movie is painfully dated now, heck, it was dated in 1998 due to it's 80's stylings mixed with 90's valley girl dialogue. The show is much more 'neutral' in terms of it's styling and that's why it's remembered now while the movie is long forgotten by most. Say "Buffy" and people will not think about Kirsten Swanson.

I hated the Buffy TV series, & 90210, & Friends, & Sex in the City.
Is that for-seriously Paul Rubens? He looks nothing like Pee Wee, so I never noticed. :snicker:
There is an even cheesier vampire movie out there; all I remember is that Van Helsing becomes a vampire in the last 5 minutes.
Uh oh, looks like someone's been putting burritos in the gas tank again.

Ahhhhhh Buffy, now that brings back some fond childhood memories... and traumas, lol. :scared:
Also, would that be a 2003 silver honda civic I see sitting in your driveway? I drive the same car and I can verify that they are, in fact, completely impervious to explosions just as the end of this video demonstrates.

09.26.2010 - 03:17 | LordNiftyWasn't Seth Green in this movie, albeit in a deleted scene? Also, I really hope David Boreanaz wasn't looking to this movie for his initial inspiration for Angel.

1) When discussing this film, one must never forget that because of this film, Whedon had to share the profits from Buffy and Angel with the Kuzuis. The Kuzuis being the producers of this film that made Whedon's life a complete and utter hell and cost him a lot of money.
2) While the Kuzuis and Whedon made a lot of money, Buffy never was really all that successful in the standard sense of TV. It never had big ratings what so ever, it usually was in the bottom 100 of shows, but it did have critics.
Without the critics and the early incarnation of the net, Buffy would not have made it past season two. Luckily everything worked out, we got the awesomeness of Angel, and we even got a comic book series.
Stating a movie that is pretty much hated or disliked by the people above, and implying it will stand the test of time. Sort of ignores the above and how the film has not stood the test of time. I will always have a little bit of love for it because one of the first times I stayed up all night ended with watching this movie on HBO. Fun times. Fun times.

My brother was obsessed with this movie when we were kids. He wanted to be Buffy. We had to watch this one over and over again, haha. I don't remember the main vampire guy, but i remembered the Pee-Wee vampire. And Pike, and Buffy. I now remember the Watcher, with the knife scene.
It's like Elvira: Mistress of the Dark. Just one of those silly fun movies that my family would all watch together, but i have to say i enjoyed Elvira much more. You could do a positive review on that movie!

=-> just LOL! XD
Another fun review, Lupa, although I'd love to see more Steven Seagal-flics in your show. "Belly Of The Beast" would be the campiest of them all and a great movie to (watch and) riff! I hope you'll check it out...

What is wrong with this world?
Now jokes about pedophiles are usual. Then I first time saw this movie I thought Donald Sutherland's character is killer, madman, weird flasher, vampire...anyone but not pedophile.
90s are funny? OK, but your time is just sick.
Once again this movie proved that Rutger Hauer is like Christopher Walken, Malcolm McDowell, can plays in masterpieces or total sh*t. You sometimes can't remember story but you'll never forget them =D

I enjoyed the review, but I also greatly enjoy the movie..it's just great fun to watch.
Unfortunately you missed Hillary Swank's best line... "Get out of my facial!" It's shit, but it's still her best line in the thing.
I didn't think the story was confusing either, it's reincarnation rather than a Watcher society and the power passing along the line after death.
Pee Wee's death scene is fucking hilarious, and you're right, he's the best thing in the movie by a country mile.
And what's this? Lupa's been blown up (um, sorta) by people or parties unknown? Quickly, someone call Linkara and see if he can clone her, too! There's no time to waste! XD
