Just to have this comment near the top because a lot of people have pointed this out -- there were audio problems throughout the entire production which Kyle has done his best to fix, but the main thing in this case is that for some reason uploading to Blip was causing the audio quality to be significantly degraded. This is the third upload Kyle's done trying to fix the problem after re-editing the audio track but at least over the speakers on my computer it's still not perfect and we haven't been able to figure out why. It MAY be a problem on Blip's end.
So just take my word for it that the audio doesn't actually suck, there's some obscure technical problem that's making the rendered version on the internet sound that way.

12.18.2011 - 03:11 | ClintonI'm wearing headphones, the sound goes low and to the left speaker for a few shots around that time. Other than that, it goes pretty well, except for the credits music that sounds kinda choppy. But that's just nitpicking, lol.

12.18.2011 - 03:05 | ClintonI see Time Cube around 4:13! I wonder how many other easter eggs are on that board.
-
12.18.2011 - 04:40 | Gethenian
A lot, actually. The board was decorated by me, the girl playing the Producer, and Todd in the Shadows. There's a lot of pop culture refrences I'm not sure ever got on film. Trogdor is on there, Todd added a lot of the graffiti messages from the Portal games, the full header on the board is "Hippocrates in Mathemagic Land" after the Disney cartoon, there's also a lot of just random goofy stuff like a drawing of a boat full of fruit that was labeled the S.S. Noms, a goat labeled "Not a unicorn," and this.... mutant cthluhu demon duck thing. Seriously, we got completely bonkers with that thing, it's a shame I don't think we ever did get a shot of the whole thing.
The Time Cube, incidentally, was put there by Todd. Trivia!

Well, that was weird! I'm now glad I stopped smoking pot because that'd probably gave me nightmares!
With all these films you reviewed.. where's the gay zombies, necrophiliac Dr. Frankenstein, Italian Virgins, German Dracula, Garbage Humpers, crappy conjoined twins special effects, and horny angels!?

12.18.2011 - 06:03 | PandiaIt was perfect, just like a caricature of some of the the highly pretentious directors that have featured on your show. so sure that what they make, is nothing short of divine. it all makes sense in their own heads, but when they try to explain it, it all falls to the ground. with their heads to high in the clouds of their own genius, not "concerning themselves with trivial details", such as pay-checks.
I also liked the reactions, at first, as if seen with the eyes of the director, in the same "stoic" tone, only to snap back to reality. it was hilarious XD
We really got into the directors head, and saw the picture he had of himself, which stood in stark contrast to how others saw him. really great job.
I find it deliciously ironic that the directors, featured on your show, have taught you something, at least about pretentiousness ;)

As somebody who's first thoughts within the first 30 seconds of this thing were, "Kabbalah and Norse references in the same sentence? Oh, this is going to be good", I found the later statement of "[...]these are Hebrew words that I know what they mean and you do not", to be incredibly ironic in a completely unintended way.
Overall, pretty awesome.

I was scared there for a moment at the beginning, that you were actually gonna do one of those pretentious pieces of junk you normally review. But that fear faded fast, and that was truly hysterical. Thank you for putting that on the site. I am currently studying film as well and that just gave me several ideas for what I could do for my next piece so, thank you.

He reviews fine art films compared to Batman and Robin ,Porno Holocaust, Little Mermaid, Equilibrium or the Clones of Bruce Lee. You either fail to have your priorities straight when it comes to films or you have no life and you are one of the zombie masses who put Marmaduke before Citizen Cain. Either way I am going to take you 50% less serious

I realy liked it and think it is a pretty good short much better then the last few shorts I have seen from the collage indi scene. It is both a parody and a reflection on indi film development, showing the pretentious side and the most common difficulties in the field. Like money management, investors not getting it, actors not knowing or comprehending there roles and the most difficult thing the directors inability to properly describing and getting across his message.Being a young art student myself makes this is kinda meaningful and allows us to see productions will not always be cup cakes and rainbows but not discouraging us, just tells us art is hard.So we have to live with it and embrace it and keep the art alive and with us even in failure .Or maybe I just talk shit too who knows.
-
Protip for "young art students": if you're going to name-check Citizen Kane while disparaging someone else for supposedly not appreciating the superiority of "fine art films" (and/or the reviewing thereof) over trashy lowbrow product, than it kinda damages your credibility when you misspell the name of one of the most famous "Great" movies of all time. I'm afraid that from now on I'm going to have to take you 23% less seriously (partially for the mistake, but mostly just to run that joke into the ground.)

Wow, this was BHH the movie. Perfect. I love how you used tarot and kabbalah as the basis for your symbolism, I can't think of anything more dense than kabbalah in its interpretation. The works of Aleister Crowley perhaps, Eight Lectures on Yoga... also technically kabbahla.
Vary funny, loved the producer, and Paw, all the actors really.

Then again, you had me at "Tarot cards."
