I don't know what it is JO, but you changed somehow.
Looks like I didn't give this series much of a chance, not for lack of trying of course but for lack of knowing it's schedules. Considering that it didn't get its intended ending I can't say strong desire to give it another chance, but that desire does it exist especially with the voice acting cast it has.
Nicely done JO, now if only I can figure out how you changed.

My only real nitpick is that you didn't use Transformers Evo, which is weird considering that Masami Okui is part of Jam Project who sung the song.
A fairly good review, and it's a shame that Transformers Animated got treated as badly as it did by Hasbro simply because it wasn't as popular as the live action movie.

JO, I never noticed before what magnificent breasts you have. Truly, you are one of God's most beautiful creatures.
At first the look of this series really put me off but as soon as I heard John Moschitta and Susan Blu, the little kid in me lit up. I might have to give this a look sometime down the line. Nice Review.

04.01.2011 - 02:24 | Kremzeek!I loved Transformers Animated!
This review was pretty much spot-on, except I liked Sari, and her Deus ex Ma-key-na didn't really bother me that much...
One Thing: You reviewed a Transformers property and nobody called Vangelus? Not even for a cameo?

04.02.2011 - 01:54 | RedRedYeah I feel the same about Sari, she was only mildly annoying in...I don't know two episodes. Also her key wasn't so much a Deus ex Machina as it was a convenience dispenser. Spend an episode with a character being repaired? Badguy needs a new fuel source NOW? You need time to come up with an escape plan? Forget that just use the convenience key and do it faster.
Also it seems JO's subtitles have been spending time with Vange1us subs, they way they were acting today.

Ah april... ^^
An good review
i think transformers Prime is more like what the movies should have been like. Still serious but with mcuh more focus on the transformers. When it comes down to it Animated has a very lighthearted tone which doesn't really make much for an epic movie.
Though related to that I actually did like Sari for the most part; sure she could be a bit of a drag on the story but she did well in the more light hearted aspects of the show... this was not a series that was meant to be taken as serious as many other incarnations... Transformers: Animated is to Transformers as what Teen Titans was to DC. Hell frankly i think its because of that lighter tone that sari comes of as one of the least annoying humans in the entire franchise.
Another thing i thought worth noting is what this series did differently in terms of the characters... Unlike nearly all the previous primes this was an optimus prime at his most flawed an untested and it showed and made him a strong character. Also one thing i liked is that this was also the only version of the series that actually did make the autobots seem like the weaker side. In every other series the two sides are fairly even with the autobots winning most of the time; in this series the decepticons have the power advantage and a lot of early victories is only thanks to the enemy being disorganized and outnumbered. For the most part, they were not warriors like the decepticons but a maintenance crew and it showed.
Though one thing i do thing was a real black mark on an otherwise great series was nearly all of the human villains (there was like maybe one exception)... I mean yes they were put in for that light hearted tone, but they were just so lame to the point that they were not even at all entertaining.

I agree with you that most of the human villains are stupid, but honestly, I loved them for it. However, as far as villains go, the only one who I actually thought was villainous was Meltdown. All the others couldn't really do anything to the Transformers. I mean, Meltdown could melt through the "skin" of the Autobots. Honestly the other human villains are minor annoyances compared to Meltdown. Besides Headmaster of course, but he wasn't nearly as intimdating as Meltdown.

Oh yeah. I love(d) TA. Great storyline, great and interesting characters.. But what I liked most were the 'cons. Yeah. The Decepticons.
They were a real threat in this series and I loved the way how they were "used" only sparingly, providing a challenge to Optimus and his team.
The cake goes in my opinion especially to Megs and... Starscream. Yes, Screamer of all bots.
He wasted the heroes in the series introduction and it needed the MacGuff.. eh, AllSpark to win the day for the good guys.
He blasted the Elite Guard easily. He was cunning, intelligent and a serious threat, the whole opposite of his original 84 incarnation.
And Megatron? Holy shit! Everytime he appears on-screen you know shit is going down.
I mean... Just watch the two-parter "Megatron Rising".
He singlehandedly delivers a no holds barred beatdown to the heroes, kills Starscream for his betrayal (that alone warrants a honorable mention!) and almost won on several occasions.
Each time the Decepticons are involved, the Autobots need all their strenght, teamwork and intelligence to win (or some huge frikking robot named Omega Supreme ;)). And even then it's often a close one.
I think, that is something Nash forgot in this otherwise excellent rewiev: The opponents. The ones who make the Autobots the heroes, who allow them to shine and become better, grow on their challenge. And the 'Cons did an excellent job in that I think.

04.01.2011 - 03:36 | manwiththehexI agree that this show did get the shaft by Cartoon Network. Why do they hate Giant Robots anyway.
Is it just me or does Nash get hurt in every single video he's in?

Good review, and definitely something to look for. In the original. Cartoon Network is dubbed where I live, which makes every show on it suck.

At first I didn't like the show... or maybe I was refusing to let myself like it. I first saw the designs about a year before it started and then I saw the beginning "movie" compilation of the first few episodes. wasn't a fan.
I gave it a chance and started loving it. What finally sealed the deal was WEIRD AL AS WRECK-GAR!!! Both episodes with Wreck-Gar just made it that much greater.
Oh yeah, and Optimus is voiced by Beast Wars' Megatron, lol. Plus, Spongebob as Starscream, Patrick as Bulkhead, and a return of Judd Nelson as Rodimus (lol).
I LOVED the back story they gave Blackarachnia.

Nash captured the show just right. I do have to disagree with one or two points though
The big problem people had with the show was Sari's Key, not Sari. Sari was (and still is if I'm honest) the best human proxy in TF history. She had an interesting backstory and development. Hell, she actually developed, opposed to "people" like the obnoxious Kicker (the horrendous Cybertron) and the walking grease stain that is Sam (LaBouf). The Key was a fix all, but it also had it's problems. Often operating on it's own agenda or being stolen. They then redirected the show in the missing third season, getting around the problem. I say missing because they refuse to release it. Instead focusing on Prime.
The other point I disagree on is that god damn shirt. Please for the love of everything that is holy don't wear that thing again, unless you have a burka over it. In a dark room. At the bottom of Lake Erie.
Beast Wars is still a superior show (Dinobot, Code of a Hero. Need I say more?) but Animated really was a clever, well put together show.
One thing you should have pointed out is why it wasn't given a fourth season. Hasbro and Discovery channel joined forces to create the Hub Channel. Wanting a big show to headline they decided on Transformers. At the same time Cartoon Network (that co-funded Animated) began it's march to a more live action direction. Besieged on both sides by the ignorant and the greedy Animated was crushed. This is also why there hasn't been a DVD release.

Cartoon Network Real tanked faster than The Last Airbender. For what ever reason the executives thought, "Hey, you know what cartoon network needs? Less cartoons. It's brilliant!"
So as one can imagine it failed right from the get-go and they've now turned their attention back to cartoons (and ponies). Which means that they dropped their funding for no reason at all.

This show was a welcome reminder of the transformers program I watched as a little kid. Sure it's silly at times, obviously for kids, and not nearly as epic in scope as the original series, but it still had all the elements in place: A cool, fatherly main protagonist in the form of Optimus Prime, Bumble Bee as the childish audience avatar, Starscream trying to kill Megatron, Megatron being a gigantic douche bag, and FUCKING GIANT ALIEN ROBOTS THAT TURN INTO CARS. After the awful, sacrilegious Transformers movie, I was ecstatic to see something from the franchise that was actually worth watching. But apparently, in the world of today's children's cartoons, "actually worth watching" means, "too good to last". :(
