Simple. They gambled and lost. They bought Fred, thinking they could capitalize on his Internet fame, but it failed. So now they are just rolling out more and more stuff to cash in on their blunder before they lose the rights.
People are often under the misconception that sequels only get made to good movies. They also get made to bad movies. They just don't get made to mediocre movies.
This actually is why shameful sequels keep getting made, even after the previous movie was a flop. The way to have the longest set of sequels is to have one really good movie, a good but not as good sequel, and then trash from then on.

12.16.2012 - 21:52 | WallydeeMike you're the #1 reviewer on this site in my opinion!
I hope you never stop doing what you are doing.
Greetings from the Netherlands

Sure, this movie may be better than the first, but it still looks like a shitfest.
I never understood how these YouTube celebrities aimed at young adults (immature ones at that) are getting kid's shows. They really had to tone down the "mature content" from Fred's YouTube show. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't his dad in death row in the web series, and his mom a hooker?

12.17.2012 - 00:17 | Emilie BennettDisturbia? Well, I don't know about that, but that subplot from The Lost Boys that would nowadays be considered predictable or cliche? Yes.
I actually thought that Fred 2 was better than the first Fred, too. Fred 3, on the other hand... yeah, good luck with the third movie.

MikeJ, I have watched all of your videos several times.... but something unique has happened here. These Fred movies are so bad they actually vicariously ruin YOUR show for me! I promise, I'm not being a dick. I literally could not watch your last episode because the Fred movie was so shite. I had to turn off this episode after about a minute. I'm sure I am mostly alone in this, but I felt I had to tell you I won't be around to watch you review Fred 3 either. But, I'll surely be back once these monstrosities exit stage left. Thank you for your great show, and I still gave you 5 stars.

OF COURSE I don't HAVE TO watch any video from anybody...thanks for stating the obvious. I was attempting to convey just how surprised I was because I've enjoyed every one of his reviews until these past two. I don't mind the dark/violent material on these tgwtg review shows with the single exception of any review regarding "A Serbian Film".... there is just something so viscerally awful, annoying, and utterly pointless about the Fred movies (of which I had never seen a single clip before) that even the review was not watchable (for me). The only reason I pointed this out at all was because I've been watching videos on this site for years and a bad movie has never ruined a "bad-movie review show" for me before, especially a show that is one of my favorites. I guess you could say that the clips of the Fred movies (for me) were perhaps the worst thing I personally have ever seen on screen.

12.17.2012 - 11:39 | MischiWow, I am with you on this.
I love Mike J and everything he is reviewing.
But this here...
Oh cruel fate, that I cannot endure this Mike J review because of a guy I've never heard before that is so annoying, I would rather see another Star Wars movie with Jar Jar Binks.
Made it 3 Minutes and give up now... maybe someday, when there is absolutely nothing else to watch... nah...or maybe... muting the movie clips...

12.17.2012 - 01:37 | SteelteethIt goes against the idea of Shameful Sequels, because by definition the following movies have to be worse than the first one. In this case the bizarre spin off about the helium voiced shrieking disappointment with the bowl hair cut and the suspenders who has even Pee Wee Herman quoting Tropic Thunder "YOU NEVER GO FULL RETARD" is only marginally better than its predecessor. Insofar as it's a derivative asinine made for kids television movie which for some reason has the WWE attached to it. But hey still better than the first one.

I do have to admit, some of these movies are so bland and uninteresting or grating that, in spite of reviewer's attempts to make it enjoyable, the movie somehow even drags down the reviews with its badness. I've experienced this effect with some Lupa and Phelous reviews as well, it's just that some stuff can be so bad, it creates a black hole that sucks goodness away from things associated with it.
This is all just theoretical and personal opinion. Sometimes you have to skip through the movie parts and just watch the review bits.

12.17.2012 - 06:06 | baba44713MikeJ, you and Todd (and ok, maybe Film Brain) are what keeps this site afloat. Thanks for the videos, man.

This...piece of...film rips off the subplot from Home Alone?.
Huh.
Hang on a second (whoops, sorry) if John Cena is his dad, why is he so kosher about his mom dating someone else? Are they divorced? Is it an open marriage? Isn't that kinda mature for a kids-oriented show? I don't want to damage my brain with checking online, let alone actually watching this...franchise.

Commenting before watching the video...
Oh goddamn, the last one was hard to get through. I wouldn't be able to imagine the kind of audience that would ask for these movies if i didn't have an ex who acted more like a 12 year old in a 23 year old's body. She would probably jump all over this show and character.
It's just .... how does something like this get money behind it? I'm glad i accepted early that art doesn't provide a living, unless you're extremely dedicated and have a rigid self-discipline - of which i am not, and have not, respectively - and to make sure i keep my day job.
Especially since all the hard work real artists do always seem to get trumped by the latest, loud, fluff bullshit like this...
-
12.17.2012 - 10:47 | TBTabbyI wouldn't call it a Christmas miracle. The only reason the sequel was better than the original was because the original set the bar so low. All they had to do to make it better was give it a coherent plot. And it's worth noting that the only chuckle-worthy moments were also moments where Fred kept his mouth shut.
Then he gets another movie, everyone hates it, so it should definitely be dead in the water.
Then he gets a TV Show and it bombs harder than John Carter, so it's axed.
Then he gets another movie and another TV Show!, WILL HE NEVER DIE?!
OH...and first
