06.02.2010 - 22:55 | KyaStarHey if the Nostagia Critic can be "That Guy With The Glasses" I don't see why he can't be "A British Person". I think it's pretty funny how he always just declares he is British and says no more.

2) Oh you and Film Brain...
3) Actually I believe Maternaty leave in America is generally unpaid and most mothers can't afford to leave work for too long especially if it's a high stakes job. You need to get back to it ASAP if you want to keep your job. I learned about the differences between American and English maternity leave as a side note in one of my classes last semester... but I don't really recall, so I hope I covered it.

Maternaty Leave covered where I work. We have had many mothers to be leave and come back and say that they still got paid(not there full salary but like 70 percent of it I believe.) My friend who works for a different company also got paid when she had her daughter. So yes in America they do have paid maternaty leave.
Also if they will be out for a while I believe there is a paper they can fill out that will guarantee there job will still be there when they get back.

06.05.2010 - 00:08 | DwaneIt depends on where you work. A friend of mine got 3 weeks paid leave, and then went back to work so she could afford to take care of the baby. The baby in that movie looked a lot older than 3 weeks.

I was about to say the same thing. Seeing ads for this movie angered me. Seeing a review of the movie infuriated me. I can't imagine what actually sitting through this thing would do to me. Simply viewing that they had the gall to imply that the simpering dolt of a cartoonist in this movie is related to Tex Avery made me feel like going on a killing spree.
Of course, the pointless CGI baby and dog sequences didn't help in that regard.
-
06.03.2010 - 14:14 | EbalanceI believe it's a reference to the fact that probably the most famous sequence in the original "The Mask" was an "homage" to Tex Avery's famous, "Little Red Hot Riding Hood" cartoon. I'm referring of course to the point in the movie where he changes into a wolf, howls over a pretty girl, has a HUGE jaw drop, and then starts hitting himself in the head with a hammer. In fact I think you could say much of the original, including the "style" of the Mask was directly inspired by Tex Avery's cartoons, specifically the one I mentioned.
So despite the horrible film... I don't think they weren't trying to drag his name through the mud so much as trying to make a not so clever reference.
-
06.04.2010 - 00:08 | KeijiKGWell of course they weren't trying to drag Jim Carrey's name into the mud.
HE DIDN'T CREATE THE MASK!
Now the question of dragging Mike Richardson, John Arcudi and Doug Mahnke's names into the muds, that might be a different matter.

06.02.2010 - 23:06 | Kolicyeah, this movie was pure shit. It shit on Tex Avery's legacy and it shit on Norse mythology.
The behavior of the mask wearers makes even less sense when the first movie made it clear that the mask just enhanced the whatever were the true qualities of someone's personality.
Reserved, shy, doormat Stanly Ipkiss became charming, strong, and silly.
Dorian was a sadist at heart and became a monster.
Evidently "Tim Avery" is a 6 year old boy at heart, I guess?

ok....so this is just an in joke about the whole "you can't review that i already did"? I was actually about to ask if you really did hate Film Brain because he happened to trash a film you like
All and all I like both of you film brain and mike j though mike is a little dryer in the humor than some people may like.
i agree it's either going to be critic on a stick or the real film brain facing off with his cut out either way looking forward to it
and about the review really i can't comment i loved the mask but knew as soon as they announced that they were making a sequel they would screw it the hell up. So i stayed away

Aside from that, your reviews are quite funny.
