I'll grant that the first one was exciting and ground breaking, but I don't understand why it's a great movie. When they start stealing the ark back from one another there isn't much story left to tell. Also there's virtually no characterization. Even for Indy and Marion there's only some brief blurb about him banging Ravenwood's daughter while she was underage. Depth? And she falls for him again... why?

While "Last Crusade" is my favorite of the Indiana Jones films, there's always been one thing that's bothered me. Now, I can understand having a blade come out of the wall that can be avoided by kneeling.. but what about the blade that comes up from the floor? Were you supposed to kneel at a certain spot? What point does THAT blade serve?
And now I've got the "Königgrätzer Marsch" stuck in my head.

If one has balls, you defend George Lucas.
And you know Mike: the Indiana Jones Character and the franchise was all George Lucas idea.
But it's easier to give all the blame to George Lucas, when an indy film goes bad, than thinking that one guy isnt the guy behind all the shots in a movie. And everytime an indy film is well recieved all people praise Steven Spielberg, and only him.
It must be so nice to be such a smug film critic, isnt it mike?

Here's the thing. George Lucas has proven himself to be a very good story writer. He has produced some fantastic and beloved stories over the years. Where he falls short, however, is in the directing and scripting department.
Put Lucas's dialogue in the hands of an incapable actor, and you will get a horrible performance (Hayden anyone?) unless you have a decent director to either modify or guide the lines in their intended path (Empire Strikes Back, for example).
Yes, I think Spielberg was wrong to throw Lucas under the bus and claim no responsibility for Indy 4. However, you have to admit that Lucas's story for Indy 4 just wasn't the same caliber as the stories in the original trilogy.

The third was always my favorite, with Raiders being a close second. Connery's performance as Henry Jones Sr. was just so delightful and entertaining I can't help but love this movie every time I watch it!

Well I also liked The Crystal Skull. And Temple of Doom...I know...and after that I always get asked...well did you like the star wars prequels too? and the answer is no.
They are as much fun as the others and have good action. And yep I'm talking about nukin' the fridge.

I think its as good, if not better than Raiders.
The only failing is the inter-dimensional thing.
Temple of Doom is rubbish.
I love the HOAS series. Short, easy to watch, and always makes me smile.
