On Deadly Ground BMB Commentary
Written by Film Brain Thursday, 14 October 2010 20:35
- Linkara's claim about plankton is incorrect.
- Since this commentary was recorded, the film has become available uncut on DVD in the UK as a HMV exclusive.

- Billy Bob Thorton was just 'some guy' back then. He lost the weight between Sling Blade and A Simple Plan.
- The chick calling Alaska a 'third world country' was supposed to make her more evil. Draw a Snidely Whiplash mustache on her, it's over.
- Yeah, by the time I got to this review the fallout from the BP oil spil was in full swing. I thought, "Well, this review's kinda awkward".
Caine looks ridiculous in this movie
- Bad script plus bad direction usually leads to a bad performance. He probably agreed to do this movie because he agreed with the message.
- The thought of Linkara getting in front of a camera and swearing almost as much as I do is actually hilarious. I'll admit that...

10.15.2010 - 04:34 | AmaniachwenHey, Film Brain. Love your reviews and sense of humor. This is my first time leaving a comment, and I feel like a jerk for it being a constructive criticism one, but I'd like to offer some thoughts.
I'm really glad that your body of work on TGWTG has grown enough that you're doing commentaries. Seriously, big congratulations on that. I love watching the end results of the videos, but knowing the process and ideas behind them is also really fun. So I'll definitely be viewing any further commentaries you release.
That said, I'd really like it if you organized your thoughts a bit more beforehand. Maybe it's just a pet peeve of mine and other viewers weren't as bothered by it, but it's very frustrating for me as a listener when the speaker starts and stops his/her thoughts several times over. You're very well spoken in your reviews (both videos and articles), and those of course do not happen magically: they require much forethought, practice, and editing. I don't want you to put more time into the commentaries than you need to (you do have a life outside of this after all), but I think putting in a bit more would really help make your commentaries much more enjoyable for me and the rest of the Film Brain fan community.
Again, sorry my first comment on one of your vids was not strictly a praiseworthy one. I really do like the Film Brain series, and definitely have more positives thoughts about it than negative ones. :-)
Thanks for your time, and I look forward to what follows.
~Sarah

I recorded two commentaries: one for this episode and one for Seven Pounds. The latter is the better one, although I'm not putting that on TGWTG because I think its a bit too personal (its on my blip). I haven't recorded a commentary since, but I will probably bring notes or just generally be a bit more confident (I'm not a very confident guy in real life).

I didn't think this was going to show up at all of course its always intersting to learn how someone makes their videos and as for the censorship I say the less we see of this movie the better although I'd like if they censored most of the dialogue for the movie particularly when Seagal would open his mouth and lastly I was shocked to hear that Linkara got so angry that he was even swearing o_O

10.15.2010 - 07:31 | tootiredAlaska is in certain ways a third world country. It has natural resources that are shipped off to other places and is at the beck and call of these companies. Certaintly the eskimos are treated pretty horribly even today.
Without the natural resources Alaska would be the dirt poorest state in the United States. It would even be more of a welfare state then it is already.

Anyhow, keep up the good work!
I woulden't say Linkara was right or wrong, sure plankton produce the most amount of oxygen but their are also small animal plakton. So it would be more accurate to say that algae is the largest producer of oxygen.
There is far more plankton then algae in the ocean. Plankton are also things like jellyfish. Having the plankton wiped out or having certain chemical changes take place in the ocean would be devastating to mankind basically wipe out all life on Earth or the majority of it. The plankton disapearing is considered a major concern since there has been a 40 decline in the plankton population since 1950. Plankton not only being a vital food source for fish also produce a lot of oxygen far more then trees. They also reduce CO2 from the air so if the plankton disapear C02 in the atmosphere will increase so global warming would be a lot worse without the plankton and ocean trapping a great deal of it. The problem with the ocean trapping the C02 is at a certain point the ocean would release all the trapped C02 and like certain volcanic lakes that released their trapped C02 the results would be deadly.

The easiest solution, I reckon, would be hooking up a tv (or monitor) to any output on the camera and place that screen in front of you.
Nearly every video camera has some from of video output, and almost all of those at least have a cinch (or RCA) connection for the video signal.
Maybe not those newfangled HD camera's with the HDMI plug, but then just get a screen with HDMI (or a converter if u got too much $$).
Q: "But I film my scene's with my photo camera/mobile and that has no video output plug"
My A: "Sorry I stopped listening after photo..."
In my opinion, if you are going to film, use a proper camera, photo camera's are for photo's, mobile's are for calling (and playing solitaire whilest sitting on the porcelain throne).

You could go all out:
Place you camera next to you computer screen.
(Or a PC close to ur 'set')
Get a capture card/device. Instal.
Plug camera into capture card/device.
See urself on ur computer screen.
Maybe open up a txt editor with ur script.
Maybe capture whilest editing, nip those mistakes (or miss takes) in the butt. Adobe OnLocation is great for that.
Etcetera.
I hope you put the 7 Pounds commentary up here too. They were both very good.
