I didn't really care for the first one. I didn't see how it could warrant a sequel either to be perfectly honest. It was a cute little family movie, but nothing really new. A bad guy gets his heart melted because he had to adopt something cute (in this case three little girls instead of a puppy or a kitten). The villain was annoying. The mother and the person who ran the orphanage were just plain mean.
And now they throw in a girlfriend for him. So what? Now he's a good guy. So what? None of it was very funny or interesting so what was the point of this film?

However in regard to this video I'll give it a chance. Film Brain led me to watch both the Croods and Iron Man 3 and I liked both of those well enough, so maybe there really is something to see. After what he's said here, maybe I'm just too pessimistic about this (because in all honesty I'd rather see a Megamind 2). After all it is a kid's movie. I just don't like to take a kid to a kid's movie and have them fall asleep after the first half hour.

Oh yeah, and I really didn't care for the minions either. Just saying because everyone else I know loved them. Again they were cute, but nothing really interesting. I remember feeling more bored than entertained when I saw Despicable Me. In fact I don't really remember anything I really liked about the first movie at all.

Please be right Film Brain. I really don't want to be disappointed in you.

I saw the original as a rental 4 times (my friend demanded we watch it till she finished it but kept falling asleep) and while it was okay, after the first time it already became lackluster.

Personally, I think the minions are more annoying than anything else. While they may be a good marketing ploy, I really can't stand their chipmunk like noises after so long.

And while I never really hated the first movie, I still think things in MegaMind and other similar movies did much better in the villain/hero concept.

I'm not that big of a fan of the first Despicable Me either. It was cute and all, but kind of boring at the same time. It's definitely a one time movie for me.

As for the minions, I think they're cute for the most part, but it's obvious they're only purpose is to be a marketing ploy. I don't dislike them because they're popular because I can see the appeal, I dislike them because I feel like they're shoving it in my face, like, "LOOK AT THESE MINIONS, AREN'T THEY CUTE. LAUGH AS WE MAKE THEM DO FUNNY THINGS. BE SURE TO WATCH THE MOVIE CENTERED AROUND MINIONS WHEN IT COMES OUT TO THEATERS." We seem to like to go overboard with the overexposure whenever a character/s becomes popular.

When I saw the first movie, I was expecting more than I got. The 'only' trailer I ever saw for the movie was when the outline of the main villain walks up to his silhouette, then it shows him, with the catchy musical words "despicable me!"
I was really expecting a 'bad guys can win, but in the best way possible' sort of movie. What I got was a family friendly 'bad guy turning good movie' that's been done before.

I didn't hate the movie, I just thought it would have been far more interesting if he was the villain, and stayed that way, and won.

I've not yet seen this sequel and if he's now a 'good guy' it seems they went the obvious route. After all he has to pay the bills (the main plot of the first movie which I thought was genius, considering most bad guys just want to rule the world, whereas he just has mundane problems wrapped around being evil).

The minion spin-off can't be all that good if my speculation holds out. Again I don't hate the first movie, I just think it missed its mark by just a little, despite actually being a decent little movie.

If I can stream this movie someplace, even with adds throughout (I am meaning this second one) I may watch it to give it a try.

I have been looking forward to this one. I am trying to not get my expectations too high, so I appreciate discussing the cons as well.

It was only very recently that I saw the first one, and all I could think (besides that it was aimed too young for even me, a kid at heart) was that it was just the Chipmunks. Those three girls were EXACTLY the Chipmunks. Everything about them, down to the colors they wore. And the "kids melting the gruff guy's heart" is so very, very old hat and ALSO a part of the Chipmunks. Yeah, it was alright, but I had a lot of problems with it, including those already mentioned in the comments. I think I enjoyed the minions' singing trailer for the sequel more than I did the entire first movie. Then again, it didn't have time to wear out its welcome.

    I liked Megamind better too.

I saw the first one in theaters, and while I agree that the first one was fine, I doubt I"ll go see this one.

And why the fuck are they making a Minion Movie? -_-

The reason this is becoming a series is so they can start making punny titles.

    Despicable 3
    Too Despicable 4 Me
    De5picable Me
    DeSixAble Me
    Despicable Me: The Sevening
Despicable Me 8: Holy Shit, We Never Expected To Make It This Far

I love Megamind, I hate Despicable Me.

Even if it did put Illumination Entertainment on the map, all it resulted was making this movie and DM clones, such as the AWFUL Lorax movie.

I found the first one to be really misguided in its own plot, way too cute, repetitive with its slapstick and got really, REALLY fucking annoying. Especially with the villain and minions.

I'll give Steve Carrell some credit, but even then his voice is grating at times. I don't wish to see this movie and I don't want to see anything else from this studio.

I could never get past how fucking saccharine and completely without personality those girls were.
And also how stupid the movie was in its entirety.
Also fuck the minions. Those little bastards are an all out sodomy of the brain.

The first movie was okay, but i didn't think it warranted all the praise it got. Steve Carrel as Gru sounded like he was trying too hard to be loveably awkward, and he was just bland. The girls were cute for the most part, but I found the plot predictable and even pointless at times (like him giving the girls back to the orphanage felt really contrived) and the minions would have been cute if used sparingly, but they became insufferable. I'm hoping this movie is better because it looks more engaging and doesn't have that stupid track suit hot shit villain from the first movie who was a dork, but yeah, still haven't forgiven Illumination Entertainment for killing the Lorax and creating Onceler fan girls and onclercest. *shudders violently

I enjoyed the first one and so did my family. Not a perfect animated film by any means; but it puts a smile on your face throughout with it's charm. Looking forward to check out the sequel in a few weeks.

I liked the interactions between the kids and The lead, I could see some...realness behind all of that, the minions were cute but they dragged you out of the movie, you know? I'm sad the older scientist didn't have as big a role I freakin' LOVED him. I might see this just to find out more on the woman with the blue trenchcoat, but that's about it.
  • Malidictus
Despicable Me has everything I hate - little kids, stupid comic relief critters and a "bad guy turns good because family." It's less "Spy Hard by means of Loony Tunes" and more "3 Men and a Baby by means of Baby's Day Out" but with super villainy thrown in.

The minions piss me off and their popularity even more so, the children make me want to shoot them with a real gun and the whole story just irritates me. I've no interest in a sequel and I DEFINITELY have no interest in an all-minion movie.

I despised Descpicable Me, but this one didn't look that bad. Which is the sticky wicket. FB describes it, effectively as "more of the same," which makes me think I probably won't enjoy it.

I liked the first one. I'ts a bit dull the second viewing but it was fun and had more charm than some other children's flicks. I'll probably watch the second one at some time. Not in cinemas though.

i didnt really like Despicable Me, it just seemed kinda bland to me. the minions were annoying, Gru was incompetent, hated the mother and the orphanage woman and the rival was too cocky. the story itself was cliche and overall, it was bland. plus we got ripoffs of the minions in movies such as The Lorax

I actually really liked the movie it's cute but they could of added more about the love interest and her getting to know the family instead of the tons of minion scenes and the ending is both cute and funny as hell. And I like the chicken.

The first Despicable Me is a contender for my favourite animated movie of all time.
While I didn't like this one QUITE as much, I still thought it was a worthy successor.

I look forward to the Minion Movie!
  • Motherfickle
While I definitely liked the original better, I can't say I didn't like this one either. My main complaint was that it wasn't as heartwarming as the first, but they really made up for it with some of the brilliant gags. The ending is pretty fantastic, I must say. I was simultaneously going "awww" and laughing at the minions doing a classic pop song (I don't want to spoil it, but trust me it's a pretty great gag).
I don't know how I feel about the Minion movie yet. It has a lot of potential, but I'm afraid the gibberish is going to get really annoying really fast.
