Okay, show of hands. Who legitimately thought that this was a Disney Channel movie at first, and they just showed it theatrically in Britain because of reasons?

Miley Cyrus as an undercover cop in a college sorority? Can't see how that could possibly go wrong.

i was hoping for a "it's so bad that is good" movie with this one an the things that you say.

i actually think that you are going to wait and make a bad movie beatdown about this movie. and actually looks that one, more than a projector's episode.

Wait, Cyrus still makes movies? That's a surprise. A horrible, horrible surprise.

Okay so the huge problem I have with this movie so far is that Cyrus' character, who is supposed to be a freakin' professional PI on a top secret mission for the feds (why did the FBI use her, anyway? Weren't there any agents or trainees that could've done the job?), let her roommate snatch the gun from her hand and POINT IT AT HER FACE. I can just imagine the roommate pulling the trigger as a joke, only to find it loaded with the safety off.

Aaand on the topic of being on a secret mission, why does she not get her own room? Sororities allow that. I'm sure she could've requested her own room and make up an excuse for it. Or why not have an agent accompany her and be her roommate/assistant instead of putting her with a normal person? Another huge nitpick - why did she not check out that dude's apartment before deciding to spy on him/take pictures of him? You know, to check if ANYBODY ELSE WAS THERE, practically rule #1 of spying? Spying, which a PI who works on infidelity cases would do A LOT. Professional PI my ass. I wouldn't trust her to spy on my cat, let alone go protect someone under attack from the Russian mafia. Why not just write her as a rookie agent? WHY.

Pfft, gotta love that "Spy Tech" program she has, too. 9_9 Real professional FBI top-secret stuff, that. I wonder what it does aside from super-secret video chats.

Wait, Film Brain, why have you even went to the cinema to watch this?
Come on, man, I understand that you might do a BMB for this film, but Projector?
I mean, I understand that you're a critic and all, but:
    a) I really doubt that many people are even interested in this film (or a review of it)
    b) Miley Cyrus starring in a secret agent fim? And you saw it in the cinema?
    :(
  • IanFisch  - WHYYYY?
Film Brain, can you please start reviewing movies that people have actually seen, or at least heard of?

There's a reason that literature classes make you actually READ the book that you're analyzing.

Without any familiarity with the material, we just have to kind of take your word for everything you're saying about it.

You haven't heard of a lot of the films reviewed in Projector because often, they come out in the UK full months before they reach the US.

This one can take its time, though.
  • Film Brain
    avatar
Er, it's a review. You don't need to see the movie to watch it. If you don't trust it, then you can see it by all means.

That's the whole point of Projector - to highlight films released in the UK before the US that you may not have heard of. Besides, if you're really curious, this comes out on US DVD on Monday. (the UK theatrical release was in early December)

And many of the films I review on Projector are nationwide UK releases for the most part, so some viewers will have likely heard of them...
  • IanFisch
I would call your segments more analysis than review.

I don't think people watch you, NChick, NCritic, etc to decide if they want to see a movie.

If that was what we were looking for, would we really want a full plot synopsis?

I think the site's audience is looking for a more in-depth analysis of movies that they're familiar with - similar to what we get from RedLetterMedia or FilmCritHulk.
  • MrSaxon

This is possibly the stupidest comment I've seen on this site, and there have been many stupid comments. Well done IanFisch - you get a No Prize.

I the US, January is infamous as the dumping ground for horrible movies, looks like it's even more so in the UK, to the point they have to raid the Direct-to-video for product because they just don't have enough horrible movies on hand to fill up the month otherwise. ...So, maybe this is actually a hopeful sign.

And hey, at least Miley Cyrus hasn't gone full-on Lindsey Lohan on us (so far) , so that's probably a good thing too.
  • Film Brain
    avatar
Well, this was released in December and vanished fairly quickly. Occasionally DTV stuff does make it UK cinemas due to release dates, and Warner Bros. UK occasionally seems to release stuff like this (they distributed this film in the UK). Warner UK is actually going to give Fire with Fire, a 50 Cent-produced action film, a theatrical run in the UK, despite the fact it's been out on DVD in the US for months. I can't imagine it doing too well.
  • IanFisch
I think most of the movies that you review end up in $10 DVD bins here in the US.
  • Mr. Hughes

Presicely as terrible as you'd expect then.
  • armagod679
I had no idea Miley Cyrus was still relevant in any way, shape, or form. Even in the US direct-to-DVD market.

Though I have to say, man, you've got balls for sitting through this movie in the cinema, which means you actually had to go up to a ticket agent and say "One for So Undercover" with a straight face.

as soon as I heard you say "must avoid falling for a fellow student" I thought to myself "that guy's totally the assassin" has anyone actually seen this to confirm my theory?

    He's not, actually, he's a red herring.

I can only assume he said "Mean Girls meets Miss Congeniality" because Film Brain never saw Season 3 Veronica Mars.

this is probably a relatively minor complaint what with how glaringly awful that movie looks, but why in the hell are all the girls dressed like that? Just graduated from college myself, am a girl, and I can assure you- NOBODY gets that dressed up in college. NOBODY. NO- not even the sorority girls do. It's just such a painfully obvious sign that the whole thing is taking place in Lala Land....
  • knightsintodreams

sorority girls have headbands and top-knots, matching victoria secret hoodie and yoga pants with some ugg boots :p
  • armagod679
Heck, your girls dress nice-- at my all-women's college, people show up to class in their pajamas and bras are completely optional.
  • knightsintodreams  - come on now, suger

Does anyone remember Veronica Mars where they did this EXACT thing?

it was way more believable when she did it though. i remember the weird rapist who shaved his victims heads....

a long time ago that show was my life, but i haven't thought of it lately at all.

As much as Miley Cyrus wants to be taken seriously, it's films like this that only prove more and more that she is a one trick pony.
  • Sidekick  - Bad Movie= Great Review
    avatar
One of the funny things on TGWTG.com is, that there are more videos abaut the bad stuff than the good stuff.

And I see clearly why. The less quality we see in the commented product, the funnier the review gets. It´s not just badmothing someone or something, it´s the art of rage. The finesse of criticising something that is so bad that you have to say something abaut it.

There was a major scene in TBF with that context, but: Film Brain and Todd really make my day when they are sharp why something is bad, just like Joe really cracks me up when something is so bad it fks him up.

Keep it going FB, your sense in critique for the good stuff AND the bad stuff is just great. I know, it means you have to sit through stuff like that... but I think it´s worth it.

I think a big problem with Miley Cyrus is her public persona. I can't get the image of her as a high school student out of my head and I'm sure a lot of that can be chalked up to her playing a high school student for the last however many years.

    ...

Hey, does anyone else get the feeling that her teeth have bloom lighting?

Why do Disney stars all turn to plastic when they get older? Even Lindsay Lohan did until she methed out.

You could tell from the title that this wasn't going to be good.
  • fanime1
    avatar
Just the title alone sounds awful. Sooo Undercover. That just makes me want to gag. The last movie I remember Miley in was in some love letter movie....Dear John! That was it! I heard that did good financially though I sure as heck never saw it. Yeah, I was never that much into Miley Cyrus. By the time Hannah Montana hit, I was growing out of those types of shows and more into anime! Thank God! Anyway, I don't hate her or anything. Still, if she was really serious about her career, she should fought for a better movie, because this wasn't going to help. At this point, it's definitely better that she quit. She can't act and we already have plenty of bad pop singers right now. I feel bad for saying that, but she just isn't that good.
  • ThunderDave
Good job Film Brain. I think this script needed a few more rewrites. And a better cast/director.
  • Tanaie

Wow. I had NEVER heard of this movie.
Ugh. They didn't even try to advertise it.

    Obvious abomination is obvious.

And what the heck is it with clique movies like this that turn Univirsity/College into a popularity contest. REAL LIFE ISN'T FREAKING LIKE THIS.

    It isn't flipping high school.

I can't speak for every school, but from the two colleges I have gone to so far, people just did not care about this kind of crap.

Not to mention, THERE'S NO FREAKING TIME TO CARE ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE (Aside from friends.). Ugh, especially when your like me, who has 8 three hour classes to deal with in a week. UGGGHH.
  • psycher7
I'm pretty sure being a PI doesn't let you just break into people's houses and start taking pictures, let alone the stupidity of not making sure no one else was there.

Oh Film Brain, this review brought a huge smile to my face. You said everything I was thinking.

I really hated Miley Cyrus when she was famous, I utterly loathed her; how she was all over the place and just how much of a moron she was. I was so happy when her career came to a halt in 2010, her lousy show ended, her music career bombed, and so did her two movies this year.

MadameMartian pretty much pointed out all the holes in this movie.

Another thing that confuses me is that Cyrus burned the bridges between her and Disney because she wants to do more "adult" roles. From what I've seen this is exactly the same thing as Disney, just with some swearing.

Not to mention the premise is just every Disney Channel sitcom but in movie format and in college, a person with a really exciting occupation that the writers ignore for the same formulaic, uncreative premise of trying to get "popular" which makes no sense since popularity is completely irrelevant in college and she's supposed to be an FBI PI, why would you care?

Which brings me to my next question, who is the intended audience for this movie? I mean the cussing alienates the only audience who'd think about seeing it and the production and premise looks to childish to appeal to any adults. No wonder it bombed as did her previous movie "LOL" which was released at the same time as the Avengers which was distributed by Disney, the same company that made her. Hah Karma is a bitch isn't it miss Cyrus?
