As someone who at one point possessed the potential to have a natural British accent, I find Fanning's performance deeply offensive. However, having said this, I will admit that her portrayal is much more British than Mat's teeth at the moment.
Boom.
Also, Mat, did you want to like this one or something? You seem a little torn over yer opinion at the end there.

11.12.2012 - 20:35 | LarieI tried reading the book; I gave up. The main characters are completely uninteresting. The only interesting thing about the protagonist is, sadly, her illness. The things she put on her bucket list were mostly sex and drugs. Completely unrelatable and lame.
The characters surrounding her were far more likeable. Especially her dad!
Also, I know I shouldn't watch this movie now because I get scared of nosebleeds, hehe.

But Restless with Mia Wasikowska was in theaters just half a year ago! It is just the same film, but with Dakota Fanning, not a remake, but the same film. I haven't seen Now is good, but i think Restless is better, because it's not just a cash in with more popular actress(which is strange, because i thought Mia is also very popular now).

11.13.2012 - 12:01 | NumberJennAs a non-British person I'd probably just excuse the slightly wonky accent as maybe being regional (like from liverpool or someware). Then again you said it wasn't as noticable as Ann Hathaway's or someone similar so maybe I wouldn't even notice. Also the only time I've really seen her act as british was in Becoming Jane and she was just too cute and put enough effort into the role for me to really care. XD

11.13.2012 - 13:40 | tvYou're criticisms of this movie are surprisingly similar to my opinions on Never Let Me Go. That was also a well performed and shot but badly written movie, trying way to hard to manipulate viewers emotions instead of telling a real story.
I was not sure if I wanted to go see Now Is Good. I had heard the writing was bad but I like the actors in it. After seeing this, I probably wont.

I've had cancer twice as a child, and.. I just get so uncomfortable when I get around to telling people. It's incredibly awkward reciting how old I was, what type I had, when I went into remission, what kind of treatment I got, ect. But it keeps coming up. For such a delicate, touchy issue, it really does come up a lot, and for that reason I try my hardest to avoid movies involving it. It always feels wrong to me. That said, I think you did a great job in your review, and I sympathize with how hard you tried to not offend anyone, because my friends and family do it too.

I've read the book, and I recognized what book this movie was based off of after the first two sentences of your review. The book DOES get a genuine emotional reaction our of the reader, and it does--either because of better writing, or perhaps the change in medium--have time to tie up all the subplots and develop its characters believably. Definitely give it a read!
You did great on this review--it says a lot about you as a reviewer that not only do you CARE about remaining inoffensive while discussing your honest opinion about a touchy-subject film, but you can actually do so :)
