Paranormal Activity has my support if it wants to make more movies, because while it's repetitive, it's a subject matter and formula I enjoy very much, and they've done it best in my opinion. And if SAW could make like 7 movies of their nasty crap then P.A. has every right to make more movies too. I will also be seeing Sinister, because I thought Insidious was one of the scariest I've seen in a while...good stuff.

I enjoyed PA 1 and PA 2 a lot, regardless of hype. PA 3... not so much. I think the ending blew it for me far more than it did for FB. As such, I was glad to see PA 4 returning to sequel territory, but I suspected it was going to retread old territory. Sounds like I was right. I'll still be seeing this on video, because why not.
I like "found footage" films and I don't blame PA for bad copy-cats anymore than I blame Alien or Jaws for the myriad rip-offs based on them. That's an unfair comparison, Film Brain. But I fully agree that PA has run its course if the best they can do now is a retread of PA 2.

lol, FB does have a point about how hinky that whole recording someone through thier webcam thing is, and she doesn't do anything about it?
If I was that girl and some guy did it to me, I would block his ass and call the cops. Because how would you know he wasn't trying to take sneak peeks if you were changing your clothes!

Man, I was kinda rooting for the series. The first one was that Little Film That Could that dethroned the almighty Saw series for Halloween weekend it came out, and I was like "Ok, it's not...GREAT...ish...but there's some potential to be mined here I think. They got a cool little mythology they could play with..."
With the two prequels, it was getting like "Ok, all this backstory is in place, so...now what?" And like you said, PA3 had more meat than the previous two, so one could optimistically assume that "Okay they're finally hitting their stride now! These might actually be something really solid now!"
But alas...I think it's time to put this Old Yeller to sleep.

Does anyone else find the PA series oddly relaxing? They're not interesting enough to be good, not dull enough to be boring, & they don't annoy me like other "found footage" type movies do.
I can't wait for found footage to go out of style...Then maybe Romero can start making good zombie movies again.

The actors ages are 15 (Alex) and 21/22 (Ben), and there at least one instance where Ben laments that her brother Wyatt quote, "cockblocked" him. Also, her parents don't trust him to be in the same with her (hence the request to keep the door open). He also makes quite a few sex jokes early on which also give the suggestion that he wants to be more than just friends.

Has anyone ever seen the movie "Paranormal Activity - Tokyo Night" ? You gotta watch it ! Its in my eyes far better then 2 and 3, as far as my opinion goes. And its in also, from my perspective, a better tie in to the series.
It is nothing special but it has an amazing scene where the demon/presence actually takes over a person in a way that is in my eyes very good acting and pretty creepy.
http://en.wikipedia.org/ wiki/ Paranormal_Activity_2: _Tokyo_Night for those who want to know about it.
And by the way Matthew : Which is the movie you think is far superior ?

Great review. PA 4 is another uselless brainless sequel. its done to make only more cash. actually i dont watch sequels and remakes because of that.

10.20.2012 - 12:34 | icedrake402Was anyone else watching the door over FB's right shoulder? Because if that had been an actual movie, you just know there would have been the usual "doorway is briefly obscured OMG there's something in it!!!!" reveal.
The flimsy excuse for why they're recording every detail of their lives sounds hilarious. And the kid in the bath....right, let's put a toddler, lots of soapy water and an expensive electronic device in close proximity. What's the worst that could happen?

I agree with you 100% when it comes you the paranormal activity movies. You are wrong about one thing. The idea of realism by holding the camera didnt get popular with paranormal activity 1. It started with the Blair Witch Project and it has been way over done. I know they are trying to make it seem real, and some movies are even trying to pass off as true, like Devil Inside. It is old and I'm tired of seeing movie with the shakey camera.

PA4 in a badly stuctured sentence - nothing happens nothing - happens - nothing happens - jump scare - repeat for an hour and 25 minutes and then cram it all in the last five minutes. Poor crap - the scariest thing was the mother who is awful - leaves a six year old alone in the bath and dopes her daughter.
Oh and madness is repeating an act over and over - how many BMB videos are there :P. Not that i can talk as i have 240 videos of my own

Woah, why should PA be supported just on the basis of SAW getting to 6 or 7? That isn't how film should work. If you run out of ideas, you stop producing. If your ideas are the same but still feel fresh, fair enough.
I don't like the Found Footage movies because it's all horse shit. The only way it'll ever work is if you somehow accidentally find it, unedited, online. Going to a movie theatre KINDA kills whatever it tries to establish. I even think this way for Blair Witch which I happen to really like. However, it relies on actual substance, rather than "Oh it's found footage, thus scary, buy Pepsi"
Whatever. Insidious wasn't scary, it was actually kind of funny, with the way the creature moved. If you want to see a scary way to move, or the "unnatural" look something can have, watch Nosferatu. I haven't been genuinely scared of a movie since The Descent. Hopefully Sinister changes this. Spoony doesn't paint it in the best of lights however so I'll just have to hope for the best.
Also, that lightin you use makes your eyes one of the most terrifying things I've ever seen
