The image of the family getting hanged is the most disturbing to me for personal reasons.
I was talking on the internet to a guy who lives in Mexico. He said that one day he walked outside and saw his neighbor's entire family of 5 or 6 lynched from the street lights. Apparently the neighbor did something that upset the drug Cartels so they got rid of him and his entire family to serve as a message to others.
Putting that one kinda personal image aside... this movie does look like a legitimate horror film with few/no jump scares.
And I did not know the guy from Spill.com was part of it. That is new to me.

Bloody modern horror. It all looks exactly the same! Even if this film is more intelligent than it's faux-psychological peers, it still has that desaturated palette plaguing every frame, a stark reminder of the Platinum Dunes abortions of terror that have led 21st century horror fanatics toward mental retardation.

10.10.2012 - 23:24 | VauschDamn, I make it a policy to not see horror films in theatres because they're more often miss than hit and there's always someone in the audience either screaming, laughing too hard, or talking over it. Too bad, this does sound like a good one.

10.11.2012 - 00:13 | The HedgehogErh mah gerd, Film Brain just mentioned Spill.com on ThatGuyWithTheGlasses.com . About half my favorite things on the internet just converged at once. Typing this was difficult, as it involved reaching around my rock hard nerd boner

10.11.2012 - 07:12 | backtoklondikeThe movie really looks like a Slenderman movie, you know with whole "Hidden in plain sight" and how it make people go crazy and finding old film footage. I'm not saying that it is a ripoff but considering it is horror movie written by a internet critic it would not suprise me if he was inspired of Marble hornets.

Looks interesting, most definitely interesting... even if also slightly spoilery, but hey- not like knowing there will at one point be creepy kids in creepy make-up will ruin THAT much of the movie for me.
Nah, that will most likely be the "BUT WHO IS THE REAL VOUYER, THE MAIN CHARACTER... OR YOOOUUUU" vibes I got. Maybe this movie isn't quite as on the nose, but I don't really like that kind of vibe in a movie. It's like... what else do you want us to do, movie? NOT watch you? Just cover our eyes and listen to what's going on instead? A movie that criticizes people for watching has never really made any sense to me, personally. It's a silly pet peeve, yes, but darnit- it's MY silly pet peeve.

I went to see this a few days ago, and I have to agree about it being the best horror film in recent memory. I hadn't seen any trailers or heard anything about it, I just knew it was supposedly scary, and people had good things to say about it.
Now, I'm a big horror fan, and I work in a DVD shop. So that means I've waded through enough truly terrible, cliche-ridden horror flicks, to know a decent one (IMPO). It's the first film I've seen in ages that's been able to actually make me feel uneasy. After the very first scene there was absolute silence in the audience, a shared feeling of 'Oh. This doesn't look like a cheesy gore-fest we can make fun of later. What have we gotten ourselves into?'.
The first time we see the face freaked me out, that 'hiding in plain sight' stuff is my favourite kind of scare. Also, the picture on the wall.. *shivers*.. was unexpected. The use of silence was well done too, sometimes it's the scariest sound. As far as the 'are they the voyeur or are you' aspect goes, it's only hinted at really, not thrown in your face. Only there if you want to read into it, kinda thing.
I'd recommend this to any horror fan, or anyone who wants to be a little freaked out for an hour or two.

Watching this movie today, I felt a The Ring type vibe throughout. When I started looking at reviews afterwards (I always wait until afterwards now as to not be influenced or spoiled) I saw an interview with Carlyle talking to Harry Knowles about it and he said he came up with the idea after watching The Ring and having a nightmare afterwards. Great review as always, Film Brain!

You don't sound sick. You just sound less energetic, so you should be fine. Still, get better soon. As for the review, it definitely got me interested in Sinister. Most horror films now don't scare me and even seem gimicky or cliche to me. However, this one seems different according to you. So, I go with my friends, since they were interested in the film.

I don't scare easy. I think the last movie that actually scared me was maybe the first Saw movie (I was young...). I saw Sinister at a late night showing with a friend, and it scared the mess out of us. We were nervous going to the car, and I hardly got any sleep at all that night. I called up another friend of mine to talk to because I didn't want to be alone. I'm nervous to watch this review. To this day, I don't know why it scared me so badly...maybe the idea of a supernatural stalker strikes a nerve I didn't know I had?
