08.31.2012 - 16:18 | Walker7890I agree worst film i have ever seen i nearly walked out too. I kinda liked the tv show but this is a whole new level of shit.

I noticed when Film Brain gets all excited, he tends to end his sentences by dragging out the last syllable of the last word.
I find that really Annoyiiiiiiing.

08.31.2012 - 20:42 | theseventhdoctorI'm surprised you just noticed thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaattttttttttttttt tttttttttthhh.

09.01.2012 - 07:56 | theseventhdoctorJust to clarify, my post in response to Dudeman was not intended to be a personal attack to Filmbrain, just an affectionate parody.
-
09.01.2012 - 01:04 | LaurvailI noticed, but I never minded. I thought it was a cute stylistic quirk.
Also, am I the only one almost thought the main actor in the title card was Simon Pegg in a really bad wig/makeup? He doesn't look like him in the clips, just in the still shot.
Anyway, good review. Like everyone else said, can't remember seeing you this angry.

08.31.2012 - 20:51 | theseventhdoctorSo worse then Top Cat? You did say that was possibly the worst film you'd ever seen in cinema but this one sounds pretty dreadful.
-
09.01.2012 - 11:22 | seishin-tekiThat one's shittyness can be blamed on lack of resources more than anything. This one looks like it is purposefully offensive for the sake of being offensive. I think that's worse; at least Top Cat wasn't stupid because it was crass and self-indulgent.

I usually try watching the films you review, just to understand your review better, if for no other reason - plus I love how you deconstruct films and present whats wrong with them, and I hope I can eventually get some intuition into that too, truth be told.
I've only ever walked out of the theaters at one film, "Dude, Where's My Car?", and (thankfully) didn't see this in a cinema, but I know I would have left at this one too.
It's just boring and unfunny.
Another spot on review. As usual lol

09.01.2012 - 03:46 | ZoonerdI have not seen this film, but I find the Keith Lemon character to be about as funny as being told you have cancer. It's the utter lowest, scraping the bottom of barrel crap spewed out on lesser ITV channels.
I imagine people that like the show would love this film though, it really suits the drooling simpleton crowd.

I know you mentioned about how the film pushed the 15 rating to its absolute limit, but if you weren't aware, the BBFC had other ideas for the rating initially:
"This work was originally seen for advice in an unfinished form. The company was advised that the film was likely to receive an 18 rating but that their preferred 15 rating could be achieved by making changes to three scenes. These were:
-to reduce sustained close focus on nudity in a lap dancing scene,
-to reduce the focus on sexual detail during a mimed sequence of sexual activity, and
-to reduce focus on ejaculate over a pin-up calendar.
When the finished version of the film was submitted for formal rating, changes had been made to satisfactorily address these issues and the film was consequently rated 15."
Just thought it was worth throwing that out.

The edits were pixellation? Interesting.
Funnily enough, these edits were just for the UK release, although there's rumours such edits will be waived for a home release (at the very least I'm guessing the Blu-Ray release). They did the same with The Inbetweeners movie, so Keith's film may follow suit.

09.01.2012 - 09:39 | DithyrambusOh, my god. I knew it. I had never heard of this film before, but as soon as Film Brain started talkikng about it, I knew David Hasselhof would be in it.

09.01.2012 - 11:24 | AnimeDoomFrom the moment I first knew about this movie I knew I was going to actively avoid it, I do not know nor care about who Keith Lemon is and this just seemed like another crude, painfully immature pseudo-comedy. After watching this review though it looks far worse than even that, the worst part is I know people who have actually told me how much they "loved" this movie and now I'm wondering how I've managed to associate myself with such people when I go out of my way not to.
This movie looks to be even worse than Ted and that is the movie I regret paying to see the most in several years, I'm curious as to what your opinion on that movie is Mr Buck as I seem to be the only person who can't find anything funny in it.

09.01.2012 - 11:34 | seishin-tekiI hate these types of films. Why anyone would think being hateful and gross just because you can is funny is a mystery to me. You want to joke about taboo subjects or whatever, sure, but you actually have to tell a joke and not piss on your audience's intelligence, not just fling shit at the viewer and expect it to get a laugh. That's bottom-of-the-barrel entertainment at its "finest" and I'm no lowest common denominator, thank you very much.
Thankfully, there's virtually no chance this will ever get a U.S. release so I won't have to think about this turd any further.

09.01.2012 - 12:11 | MephistoHyacinth Bucket herself would have a stroke watching such rubbish...and the UK used to have some amazingly good comedy shows...
-
09.01.2012 - 12:20 | BishyTYa know, i've never watched a Film Brain review before.
And I never will again.
I mean, good god man, this wasn't even a review, it was an aimless rant. If you had calmed down and actually explained your thoughts rather than just shouting at us (as if it was our fault you watched it), this would have been a lot more bearable to watch.
First there's the fact that you made assumptions about Leigh Francis as a person based off one of his characters, something which is incredibly ironic considering what happened not too long ago with Mara Wilson and the Nostalgia Critic. And then you go and throw about really strong words like "misogynist" and "homophobic" without any explanation as to why (just for the record, i'm a gay guy). You can't just go around saying things are homophobic without any explanation whatsoever. It sounds more like you were trying to use the strongest buzzwords you could think of just to emphasise how much you didn't like the movie. I actually find your throwaway use of "homophobic" more offensive than the movie.
When the Nostalgia Critic gets angry, it's humorous, because you know he's putting it on for comedic effect. This however, was just cringe worthy to watch.

There's actually a reason why I used it (and believe me, there's a number of things I never even came close to mentioning here). The reason I called it "homophobic" is because there's a running gag involved Lemon's friend who is terrified of coming to London because he might get "bummed" by someone - possibly a terrorist. This is some laddy humour (also seen in the similar Lesbian Vampire Killers) that I find crass and offensive. So it was justified and I don't simply use "buzz words" like that for effect.
I also don't feel I actually made comment on Francis himself. I kept it to being about Lemon (as a character) which I feel is an important difference - my comment about it being an "ego trip" aside, because I genuinely felt the film was written that way with the Kelly Brook angle.
And apologies, but this film made me genuinely seethingly angry. It's a hateful, hateful film. Worse, it has a far better release than a number of superior British films made this year. This is a v-log episode due to the lack of available film footage, since it is currently playing in cinemas. Sorry I have left a poor impression, this is not really representative of much of my work on Projector.
Bad Movie Beatdown probably won't be up your street, though.
-
09.01.2012 - 20:13 | theseventhdoctorI can't say I agree with BishyT's criticisms of your review at all. It would have been perfectly easy for you to do a pure "angry review" where you just rant, but I don't think that's what this was. Your points were legitimate and despite the fact that you were angry the review seemed pretty rationally set out and explained your reasoning perfectly well.

Well I for one love Bad Movie Beatdown, and I think Mat had every right to be angry at this garbage. This was basically the British version of Freddy Got Fingered.
In the words of Brad Jones, "Keith Lemon? I'll stick with real British comedic people named after produce like Mr. Bean, thank you very much."
-
09.03.2012 - 20:31 | BloodrealmJust so you know, he goes into far more detail explaining his criticisms in Bad Movie Beatdown episodes than in Projector episodes, and when he calls the film homophobic in this review, he's got a clip running that helps to show what he means somewhat.
