This movie was just horrible, and I am so glad you adressed it.
Always hated the great plot-holes and how people just loved it.
Felt like it survived only because of the mega-hype around Matrix.
-
actually i dont think wimmer knows how to write a movie with out including massive plot holes. anyone see the recruit, sphere, or ultraviolet. Seriously his movies have huge plot holes, now that i know who he is thanks to this review I will be avoid anything he writes cause all the things i've seen him do have made me feel :X but yeah I haven't enjoyed anything he's written, maybe tomas crown affair cause Pierce Brosnan is just so amazing he could make a wimmer movie good. but yeah to me this guy's worse than uwi bowl. (honestly i think uwi bowl is a freagin genius, he makes horrible bombs that have huge budgets and laughs all the way to the bank, seriously he is in the business of making bad movies and reaping in the profits, kinda like mel brook's "the producers".
-
First off, how is 30 million a huge budget? Secondly, most of Uwe Boll's films tank hard, and don't even make their budgets back until years after release after their atrocity is advertised across the internet. If Uwe Boll was such a genius he would have at least made one coherent film. The closest he has come is Postal, and that was still a huge mess.
-
10.27.2009 - 14:56 | superhypermoosethat doesnt mean uwe doesnt make money. and 30 million is a lot bigger than El Mariachi's or Evil Dead's budget.
-
11.26.2010 - 02:44 | SqueejeeLuckily for all of us, the income tax loophole that Uwe Boll was exploiting to make his movies has been closed, and naught but the most desperate game developer will consider their work for his hands.
Oh, shit, SEGA is a desperate game developer! Fffffffffffffffffffffffff ffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Ultraviolet gets a pass because the studio chopped it up. If they ever release the film the way that Wimmer made it and it's still filled with as many plot holes, then I'll agree with you.
Never saw this film but don't feel that I have to now. The plot is everything mentioned with a touch of Logan's Run in there, too. And the action scenes were done again in Ultraviolet only much better.
Got to admit that Bale was perfect casting thou. If you want someone who can't show emotions....he's your guy.
-
10.27.2009 - 14:58 | superhypermoosewait your defending Ultraviolet? that movie was garbage, the acting was horrible, the writing was lame, the action was poor, over played, and predictable, it was trash!
-
01.06.2010 - 04:12 | minozakeI loved Ultraviolet. I don't know why, but I did. Now I need to see it again.

i think its funny that he knows that hes wrong because he says so in the "notes" section
-
It was a pretty good review.... other than the length and the fake laughing, it was good. Too many plot-holes killed this movie for me. Definately one of Christian Bale's worst movies.
Keep up the good work

06.19.2009 - 01:59 | El DentonioAt least he actually reviews the movie, unlike Doug who insults every part of the movie, even the good parts. The NC then proceeds to use his main joke, that he keeps using, that sucks. He gets very angry and squeaky voiced. God The NC pisses me off, but I continue to watch, because sometimes it's funny.

And yeah I like the movie, but even I admit the HUGE plot holes trough which you can drive a damn truck.
But even then I still liked the movie (well it sutes my hulariosly small brain and my thirst for violence).
With all that in mind - this movie isn't in any way better than Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, one of the best Batman movies.

Seriously, did this poor excuse for a reviewer have to suck dick to get on this site. This is an insult to listen and watch this vid. It's annoying, the quality is bad, the jokes aren't funny and the last vid, the guy rips off Dr. Insano. The movie was pretty cool with Christian Bale. No it didn't have really any Matrix rip off moments at all. The man didn't dodge bullets or become the One, and he wasn't in a computer program. The only part that can only be seen as a rip off was the set for the last fight scene and that's because those curtains looked like the most expensive thing in the movie.

I'm actually in an article position. Videos are more a side thing.
No it didn't have really any

Besides costume design, did I say it did? No. It rips-off other movies, as I pointed out, but I do agree The Matrix comparisons are wrong.
the last vid, the guy rips off Dr. Insano.
Celluloid was in the script for BMB Pluto Nash back in November 2008. Again, circumstances meant that the video (although shot in January 2009) meant it came it in April 2009, and was viewed as a 'rip-off' when it is actually two people coming up with the idea at the same time. Think of it as Paul Blart: Mall Cop and Observe and Report... Actually, don't, because those were both terrible...
The man didn't dodge bullets
Hate to burst your bubble, but he did. At close range.

06.18.2009 - 23:46 | KanasheNot a bad review. I kinda liked Equilibrium, I mean it was made before The Matrix, and back then such movies did seem cool alot. The insane special effects, shooting an kung-fu mixed together. Though I never knew this movie actually had a fansite. That's pretty rare.
-
06.18.2009 - 23:49 | madkap42:shock: Wow. A Matrix ripoff that actually makes Keanu Reeves look like a competent actor.
I mean it was made before The Matrix, and back then such movies did seem cool alot.
Actually The Matrix pre-dates it. The Matrix came out in 1999. Equilibrium came out in 2002 (or 2003, if you were in the UK, where the UK distributors milked the film using the pre-Matrix Reloaded hype).

Though I thought you over-analyzed the movie to the point that it felt like you were trying to convince yourself it was bad, the review was alright.
It's certainly not an original movie, but it makes up for it with dynamic and entertaining action and an interesting setting I thought. I could think of a dozen other movies that are more deserving of "Bad Movie Beatdown". Commando for one lol
Was gonna knock ya for the awful shaky cam, but I see it was fixed in a video released last since this came first apparently. Good on ya for fixing that

I love action movies. I have done since I was young. I grew up with Schwarzenegger. My favourite movie is Die Hard. But I found this overhyped and pretentious. I actually found the gun kata scenes hilarious - I was almost rolling with laughter, I was that hysterical.

I agree in the point of Fahrenheit 451, but I don“t think that all of those so called plot-holes and unnecessary scenes are any. This movie is very watchable and I have seen much worse movies that are far more overrated than this one. For the video, I find it funny, but not hilarious. Hope the next one from Film Brain is better.
-
06.19.2009 - 00:19 | Goldy Phoenix
I definitely agree that this movie has its weak points.
It's also a near-blatant ripoff of 1984 (as are most dystopia works) and some other works (like the Matrix, as you mentioned). Cliche, yes. But despite all this, it was an entertaining film (the first time anyhow). This film could have failed utterly, but it largely succeeds at what it does, despite all the negative aspects.

06.19.2009 - 00:38 | TheorendilSorry man, this is one of the best action movies EVER MADE, there's absolutely no way in hell this deserves a "Bad movie beatdown". No matter how you see it. The action scenes are slick and most of all: ORIGINAL! The director actually INVENTED the art of Gun Kata, name another movie that came up with its own martial art FFS! Oh, and your attempts at mimicing the various Critic personna's as well as most, if not all, your attempts at comedy, are pathetic and actually make you look retarted, not to mention unoriginal. Atrocious review. I refuse to take seriously reviews coming from a person who's NOT EVEN OLD ENOUGH TO WATCH most of the movies he mentions in his reviews... (according to his introduction post anyway)
-
09.03.2009 - 15:10 | LimecatHe didn't invent gun kata you fucking moron, John Woo invented gun kata/gun fu. All they needed were some doves flying and they'd basically be plagiarizing. Though technically, krav maga invented gun kata, because part of it involves using unloaded guns as weapons.
But I do see this as a big Matrix ripoff. I don't remember much hype when it came out, people were still shitting themselves over Matrix 2 and 3.

To be fair, you are right. The problem, as one user posted above, that it ends up looking like a slap fight. Not to mention it looks ridiculous and in no way could be used in a real fight. Not unless you deseperately wanted to become human Swiss cheese.

I am 18. That introduction post was written in 2007, back when I was 17. I am not based in the USA, with the ludicrious R rating, I am in the UK, and having turned 18, I am legally able to watch whatever I want.
Besides, Equilibrium has a '15+' certificate in the UK anyway. As does 'The Fast and the Furious'. So there.

06.19.2009 - 00:42 | WrongroadYes this movie is cliched, and yes it's over-the-top and it's a ripoff of 1984 and I didn't enjoyed it that much but still your review was quite bad.
You are new at making videos and it's understandable that they're not that good (even though some of your 5 second movies are priceless). Still, you could try working a little more on your jokes rather than tossing curse words and bleeping them waiting for a quick laugh . You have to polish your acting skills quite a bit, also (unless it was on purpose).
Some of your points are not that valid, especially the ones you refer about the guy going ballistic and no one caring. First off, the populations is either zombiied or they're pretending they're zombified, and they have no power whatsoever. The guy is a Cleric, they can't do a citizen arrest. Other than that, it is explained later in the movie that Preston was let loose so that he could bring the leaders of the Resistance to be incinerated (which is really bad plot but it is a justification). You nitpick quite a lot, maybe shortening the review and not showing half the movie and just the really bad parts would help preventing that.
I recall you saying you've seen a lot of movies, and the ones you show to compare ratings well...not the best choices, you could at least keep it on the genre and, in my opinion, Jackie Brown is severely overrated aswell.
Well, don't want to keep bashing you (sorry for that :P for the bad english too), just keep improving and try to make your own style instead of copying NC.
-
Well beside the load of plotholes, I really like that movie.
Imho, it's nice entertainment with good battle scenes (Nothing awesome here yet nice.).
I wouldn't go that far to call it bad or even worse since it isn't and I doubt neither you nor I nor anyone only watches movies, having deep, thought out storylines, huge character developments etc.
I'd rather put Equilibrium into the genre you can watch, if you want to spend an evening with friends.
But okay, it is your opinion you posted here and now you have to deal with the reactions of the viewers.

Even if I wasn't Christian, I would hate Carrie. It is just one of many examples of Stephen King's lack of religious sensitivity and his persistent refusal to do basic research.
I just did basic research on Stephen King and found out that he still believes in God and reads the Bible. Wow. I don't know what to say to that.
