Equilibrium is like The Butterfly Effect, it's a movie filled with plotholes and bad writing and directing but people still seem to enjoy it.
I, myself, wasn't a fan of Equilibrium I didn't really care for it but I really liked The Butterfly Effect a lot, even tough I recognize its flaws.
By the way Matthew could you review The Butterfly Effect? I would really like to see your opinion on the movie, probably the same as Equilibrium and Seven Pounds but I would still like to see it.

Hey isnt that the kid from Xmen 3? The kid whose power was to cancel mutant powers and they developed a cure for mutantcy from his DNA?

Hey! Its great to see the bad movie beat down back btw-and wanted to add my 2 cents. First off, this was a bad movie in a summer of "girl power" style movies, esp with that gawd awful plot...but I have to admit, I enjoyed this one a little moreso that the rest of them. I found the action scenes pretty cool, but they wayyy over did them in terms of too many; I could buy a super human/mutant/w/e with speed could -in theory- dodge and fight a group of armed men, but to see it happen like x20 times kinda took the fun out of it. As for the plothole at the end you pointed out, the main bad guy was a vampire too-but his actions made sence to me. He was interested in controling the world(OF COURSE!); as a result, he was using his fellow vamps to create a sence of fear he could use on society as a whole to run the show; as they were nearly gone though, he had to come up with a new virus though, one that affected humans, so he could ruling over Kickassia. Overall, a fun B movie for a rainy day, but could have been so much better if they had had a good plot, and kept the superior fighting scenes to a minimum lvl to enhance the story.

03.04.2011 - 00:19 | DMasterHuzzah, one of the first shows I watched outside of NC and AT4W is back! Good to see you again, Film Brain, and with THIS atrocity to boot!
I do have oooonne small criticism though: you reviewed Ultraviolet...and you didn't get Rollo T to do a cameo or even MENTION him? I hope his likely giddiness over seeing it bashed will make up for that.
Overall though, I really liked this. How you'll top this later on...I haven't a clue.

03.04.2011 - 00:31 | Illya KuriakinI think I have this movie somewhere in my house. My parents paid 3 dollars for it and decided to give it to me. The trailer did not even get me interested in watching this movie.

Sweet mercy... I never saw this movie, and I am -so- glad that I didn't... just seeing this review made me feel nauseous knowing that this film was created. I mean, I'll stand up for Equilibrium as a mood piece, albeit a flawed one, but this... this is a festering pile of filth. I mean... just... OW!

It's hardly fair to label this movie as loaded with plot holes when it doesn't have a comprehensible plot in the first place. I mean seriously, can anybody decipher any character motivation? Who are these people? What do they want? Why are they fighting?
I think that Kurt Wimmer just had a list of fight scenes he wanted to see and then wrote the dialogue while on a wild bender. I remember when I saw this movie for free on digital cable. I would just watch the fighty bits and fast forward through the stupid dialogue.
Good to see you back, FB!

That Eastenders/Home Alone face gag was bloody hilarious, almost had my screen covered in tea there!
This movie was so bad, especially the playground scene,it just comes out of nowhere!when I first saw this I had to rewind to check I hadn't blanked any important plot points.
Good to see BMB back, great show

Finally, Matthew is back to what he does best.
I had the misfortune of watching Ultraviolet in the theaters and it was horrible, HORRIBLE. I don't nitpick when a movie has a few errors, plot holes, some bad acting or anything like that... but HOLY MOTHER OF GOD, Ultraviolet took a really easy to do movie(Mila Jovovich as an action heroine? SOLD) and ruined it with shitty editing and a terrible plot.
Matthew was dead-on, this movie is abysmal on every level.

03.04.2011 - 01:39 | TwinkiMiltonWhen I first saw the trailers for Ultraviolet, I thought it was a reboot of that Aeon Flux movie. Styleisticly this looks almost what I'd imagine a live action Aeon Flux would look like...Then I saw the film :P

03.04.2011 - 02:02 | 007italianguyOMFG. I knew you would hit this movie eventually.
My friend suggested we go see in in theaters, and we went in a group of 4. I gave him shit when it was over and we all laughed throughout the entire time about how retarded this movie was. The crowd was very pissed off when they left the theater (can't believe this was on the big screen!!)
I remember seeing the DVD at a video store and read the back. Critics were actually saying this movie was good !?!? Ya, any way to get people to buy or rent this piece of shit..
Man, the money spent on making this could have been used for something good.....

Often times movies take an out of context quote from a movie review to make the movie look good when the review is actually trashing the movie.
Or the quotes were from fake movie reviewers created by hollywood that had their reviews published in certain newspapers. There was quite a scandal when this practice was revealed since it was not only not an honest review but concealed advertising.

not that I didn't like Projector but I am very happy you brought back BMB speaking of which... UltraViolet I saw this movie when it first came out and all I can remember about it was if was ridiculously over the top and I hated it thanks for making me remember exactly why all over again. glad to have Bad movie beatdown back.

03.04.2011 - 02:16 | buzzrock1Great review, god that movie sucks, but I didn't get that Charles Dickens line. I watched it twice and couldn't understand what you were saying. Were you taking a shot at Dickens or did I miss the reference entirely?

Anyway, good review. But, you know, this is the first time I watch one of your episodes and want to see the movie that you featured.
I'll be looking forward your next week.
