09.14.2010 - 15:30 | KD17It had a theatrical release, alright. For about 2 weeks, it seemed. It's that bad. and that's coming from a dragon fan. By God, what a dissapointment.

09.02.2010 - 21:06 | jayoI think it was theatrical. Even the Asian audiences wouldn't even spit on it! And how long can the Dragon go through a city unnoticed?! That sort of thing makes the fact that the monster was added after the shooting much more blatant!

09.03.2010 - 00:02 | Gold2094Yes this movie was a theatrical release (I know because I saw it in theaters) and though many people would disagree I see this movie as a "popcorn movie" were its just explosion fun for a while. Though this is just my opinion and other people might think it just sux.

I must admit I'm surprised it was released to theaters here, just looking at the quality of the effects. According to Box Office Mojo it only made 11 million domestically, so I'm not really surprised I've never heard of it, especially being released in September. It did do considerably better in the international market; looks like it doubled its production costs. :dizzy: That's slightly depressing.

This is one of those movies that could have been good. Unfortunately, the lack of direction, lack of acting ability, focus in the story, and a completely incompetent editor led to this movie's complete failure.
Let's face it. Dragons are cool. They can be awesome when used properly. Sadly, I can think of only two movie's that were good and had dragons. And the only reason why one of them was good was because Sean Connery was the voice of the dragon.

Yeah, it's really a shame that dragons haven't really been capitalized on in movies ... -_-
good movies at least. I'm going to guess the other movies you think is good is How To Train Your Dragon, because that one wasn't bad and Dragonheart was pretty awesome, even if it was only partly because of Sean Connery. =)
This movie though, I could tell it would be awful the second I saw the trailer. Something felt bad about it to me, so I decided not to even glance at it. I'm glad I followed my gut there, because it saved me from seeing a completely awful movie.

Between 1998 to 2006, South Korea had a success globally with movies like My Sassy girl, Oldboy, JSA, Shiri, Windstruck, and TV shows like Winter Sonata.
However, this movie's release almost killed the successes of Korean films worldwide. The awfulness of this film along with the nationalistic marketing & PR made filmgoers turn away from Korean cinema, and most Korean films had a financial blow globally due to this film. It took Park Chan Wook's Thirst to reestablish the Korean film scene worldwide, and that was in 2009.
Here in Asia, the film was marketed as a pride of South Korea, which is like having Epic Movie the pride of the USA. Even the director Hyung Rae Shim took place in marketing game, having him introducing his movie at cinemas while the anthem of South korea was played in the background. And this was one of Shim's biggest ego-pushes, establishing him as one of the biggest dicks in Asia.
In conclusion, fuck you Hyung Rae Shim for almost killing the Korean film industry, and God bless Park Chan wook.

One thing I got annoyed at was that dumb subplot with the zoo guard. It annoys me for a pretty dumb reason actually. They can't actually put you in a mental hospital in the US unless you are a danger to yourself or others. So he would have told that cop about the giant snake, and they would have just told him to leave. Nor would they have put him in a straight jacket, haha.
But yeah, they were trying to be funny, but they failed.

09.02.2010 - 23:00 | KayomieI was hoping someone was going to finally tear this accursed thing a new one. I was actually excited to see this movie when it first came out and... well... This movie almost killed my love for dragons. Which is SAYING something since I own the Dragonology books...

09.03.2010 - 00:55 | phTheDudeGreat review as always! To be fair to Dragon Wars, however - even though it's a bland timekiller, LotR also ripped off scenes whole cloth. Watch the siege scene in Army of Darkness and then watch the sieges of Helm's Deep and Gondor. Especially Helm's Deep.

And by that, I mean, even if Peter Jackson's film was released after Army of Darkness, the novel came first, so if there was any rip-offs involved, it would Army of Darkness to LOTR, which likely even then isn't the case. If you can't see that, then frankly, you deserve to be hanged by your balls from the peak of Taniquetil!
And finally, of course it looks like a siege. It's a fucking siege! Dumbass!
