Great review Film Brain! Wow, the clips you shown from the movie were really, really dull. I guess Paul Blart, Mall Cop really was mediocre.
You know, I'm surprised you didn't review Observe and Report, which I consider even worse than this movie. The supposed protagonist was really disturbing, the plot was just as weird and then there's the infamous date scene...

08.05.2010 - 23:09 | elelgood90I watched this movie with my mom a few months ago. We had heard it was funny. Yeah, it sucked. I agree that it isn't horrible, but it was not a very funny movie. I actually like Kevin James. He was funny on King of Queens. I don't get why he chooses to be in crappy comedies. Hell, when I watched Hitch, I didn't really like it that much, but I still liked him in it. He was more interesting than Will Smith. So I think he's capable of being funny, but he chooses to be in crappy movies.

Honestly, I don't think you can base how successful a movie is by how much money is made off of it. There are certain groups of people that make up the sum. Here are a few, and there are probably more. The Curiosity Group, these are the people who saw the trailer and are interested in the things the creators of the movie decided to show them (These people know how to market movies) A.K.A Trailor Trusters. I don't mean this title in a negative way, I've been a Trailor Truster too, everyone probably has been one. Another group are those people who liked the leading actor in another movie or television show. Again, everyone has probably done this.
What I really can't stand is when they announce the success of movies after the box office weekend, usually on some news program, and say how much money was made. They don't ask what viewers thought of the movie. Somewhere along the line the amount of money equals how good the movie was. In some cases this is true, but in other cases, like "Paul Blart Mall Cop" this theory is completely false.

08.06.2010 - 13:30 | CaptainAndy27It didn't even have that many piss and fart jokes it was mostly them ripping on eachother which I thought was funny. And by the way you don't need to f***ing insult me just because I like a movie you didn't so piss off.

08.06.2010 - 00:22 | SayaCelineI loved this movie. I'm probably extremely biased as I saw it in theaters with my ex and have great memories laughing with him. But I always found Paul so loveable and genuine. I love how it seemed to parody all the big action movies.
You seemed to take the movie too seriously. The humor is dorky but I think it fits the character well.

Ah yes, one of the two big mall cop movies of 2009 (the other being Observe and Report). Made around the same time, sharing similar storylines, similar genres, only big difference was the rating. And yet, the one that earned less was the better of the two (although the quality difference was marginal). That said, neither movie is dreadfully awful. They're just both stale. This one, a bit more so than the other.
Good review. Nailed the dull humor of this film to the wall.

I saw this movie in the theaters on my birthday and I liked it, I still like it, its not the best movie ever but its not the worst, its not as bad as G.I Joe, its a type of movie where you leave half your brain at the door, so you can have some fun but still be able to detect the un-funny and stupid parts.

I think I know why this movie made so much money.... if you remember this movie came out at almost the exact same time as "Observe & Report" and that movie fucken sucked.
For some odd reason, January was the month for mall security movies and this was by far the better of the 2..... in my opinion anyway.
This movie was pretty bad but it wasn't awful.
I applaud you sir for recognizing the fact that it was purely mediocre.
Great review by the way.

There is humour in this film, but it's all based around the character himself rather than actual gags. Basically, he's a security guard who acts like a cop from one of those over-the-top action films, and that's pretty much the joke in just about every scene. The "brainee" line for example, isn't meant to be funny in itself- you're supposed to find humour in the fact that he's trying to be witty, when he obviously isn't.
Personally, I kind of enjoyed the movie, but I suppose that sort of humour isn't for everyone. And I'll admit, it's probably not the sort you want to spread over an entire movie.

08.06.2010 - 01:04 | CaptainAndy27I especially love how this movie misrepresents mall cops as useless assholes who issue "tickets for moving recklessly in a crowd." My sister's fiancee was a mall cop and he had stories about drug deals, thefts including thefts from and of cars, and domestic violence. And him and the other mall cops were fit and strong enough to handle them all perfectly well. Paul Blart couldn't be a mall cop they wouldn't let him.
