changes in quality indeed!
"i wouldn't want to dirty my bullets" *ugh*
Great review man! I remember that scene at the end parodied in southpark. Segal, surprisingly preachy, who would know! I bet he drives a Humvee...

Yes! I was waiting for a Seagal movie to get bashed. Thanks for finally bringing it in, FilmBrain.

In terms of movies with themes that just don't fit to an action movie I'd say that End of Days is another bad movie that should get beat down.

We might as well face it: That old man had it coming. He called Seagal a whore. He had to die a horrible death.

Im suprised you dident make and batman or scrubs jokes about the two lead villans other than changing their names.

Matthew, I have to ask, will you ever do a beatdown of Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band?

In the scene where he's apparently a continuity issue. Isn't it a diferant coat?
Anyway, good review. You seen to be getting the hang of reviewing moives that are actually bad.

Yeah, different coat as well. Those scenes literally come right after each other. Talk about contradicting yourself.

Segal definitely needs one of those enlightening beatings. It's amazing they work that way.
"DAMMIT THOSE WERE NEW SHOES!"

At 16:35 when they say Alaska is a third world country, I'm pretty sure she meant it as a joke.

I wish she was. I really do. But like the rest of the script, they say/do something stupid and the film takes it deadly serious.
-
08.06.2009 - 20:54 | Curiosity Inc - A couple of additional points:
1) Michael Caine fired his agent shortly after this movie's release.
2) Seagal was recently cast in an upcoming Robert Rodriguez movie.
Make of these what you will.

Oh dear god, this movie is hilariously bad. Segal is just such a jackoff.
Interesting note: the woman who plays Caine's secretary also played the EarthGov Political Officer assigned to Sheridan in Babylon 5.
I guess playing oppressive bureaucrats is her forte.

Steven Seagal in "THREE WORD TITLE!"
You have a total knack for picking movies that deserve a nice beatdown and this one was more than worthy from the cringe-worthy SYMBOLISM (a character named "Forrest" and the dream seqeuence) to some truly cheesy, unnecessary scenes like the torture scene with both gratuitious violence and an awful cliche-drenched speech (they actually used the "There's no "I" in "team"" mantra?!).
I have to say, the final product turned out very well and you're definitely improving more and more with each video, finding your voice.
Keep up the great work, Film Brain!

I'm personally of the opinion that naked bear-fighting can only elevate the quality of a film, and was sadly lacking in both Casablanca and Sunset Boulevard, keeping those films from achieving the level of excellence we have just seen here.
Best review yet - you're really hitting your stride, keep it up!

One thing I would like to add: your videos are obscenely long. They are certainly improving as time goes on but I think you could leave some stuff on the cutting-room floor.
Keep up the good work, though.

Come on, the guy was in Jaws IV before this - clearly he enjoys a paycheck just as much as the rest of us.

loving your reviews dude! You have a sharp critique!

Holy crap! Did I just see John C. Mcginley from Scrubs and Sir Michael Caine? This movie just shot up a few points just for having two of some of my favorite actors!!!!!
Still, what a load of shit.

And now, ladies and gentlemen, the single greatest line of dialogue uttered in any film:
"My guy in DC tells me that we're not dealing with a student here; we're dealing with a professor. He's the kind of guy who would drink a gallon of gasoline so he could piss in your campfire. You could drop this guy off at the Arctic Circle wearing a pair of bikini underwear without his toothbrush and tomorrow afternoon he's going to show up at your poolside with a million-dollar smile and a fistful of pesos!"

Seeing this review, I have to wonder why all the environmental movies/TV shows that I've ever seen have to be so heavy-handed. It's not like we're two year-olds or anything. We get it. Seagal should've understood that subtlety was the way to go. But then again, he is Steven Seagal. ::le sigh:: And you're right. Action flicks don't really do subtle.

Steven Segal is a hack through and through. A good martial artist, yes, but he is a terrible actor and has a very pathetic sense of ability. That is to say, he thinks he has the ability to create films. He does not. I just love his Brooklyn accent though (Out For Justice?), it's completely offbeat and actually manages to somehow become offensive at some points (I hail from Brooklyn).
Keep up the good content, I don't care what other people say, the way you talk and your mannerisms are delightful, not annoying.
