So, are you saying that all second wave feminists are the radical, man hating "social justice" tumblr type feminists?

I wouldn't say that exactly, but a great half could be? Sure? I dunno.

    "Oh fuck you!"
    "I could make that happen."

There's something I'd pay money for. 'Diamanda/Author! Diamanda'.

.... Iiiiiii smell a FANFIC coming on!

No, but seriously, I do have to agree with you on this video: I do wish more interpersonal hate was handled with bad porn parodies. A world with a lot less killing and a lot more comedy, parody, and sex? Sign me up. Plus, I'm all for a video company who 'de-otherizes' the trans side of things.

That "Vixen News" line took me a second.

Ha! I'd like to see this bullshit, not going to pay that much for it, though.

@KurusuSoratobu Seconded on that pairing. At the very least it'll be funny and mind...., how can she kill herself and still exist...? :P

I got my Hagan fix I am happy. As for the film I'd rather throw money at them then cringe my way through this movie. Although the issues and the group represented here is an interesting thing in itself.

    This week: socially-conscious porn.

    Next week: Blackbeard's Ghost.

    I... can see a theme?

Seriously, do you throw a dart at a billboard of random movies or something, Hagan?

...I find penises and vagina's funny all on their own? Like, penises gimme a chortle, vaginas a hearty geh-FAH, and when dick chicks show up I just totally loose my shit. Is that ok? May I then fuck on?

This is one of those movies that only Hagan could review. Sure, that's partly because only Hagan has heard of it... But the other part is that no-one else would have the slightest idea how to handle a movie like this AND make it funny.

Thus, I once again salute and shout HAIL HAGAN!
Also, down with the resistance. Well, if there's anything left of .. them?

I couldn´t agree more. This was really fun but still not offencive to anyone, apart from some stupid people maybe. :) She did an exellent job.

    HAIL HAGAN!

Now that I think about it, was there any fellating in this movie? Because that's sort of a gross oversight in a film calling itself Genderfellators.

Wait, I don't know alot about condoms and thier bio-degradablity, but I would probably not want to trust one that some guy has on him in his pocket after he has just woken up 400 years into the future. I mean, what are the chances that they might have worn down due to the elements and become...unreliable?

I just want to thank you for explaining that not all feminists are radical, and it's only a certain group. To be honest, I'm a feminist, and even I'm afraid of radical feminists. A famous second wave radical feminist believed that women who are heterosexual are "brainwashed." That offends me because I deeply love my boyfriend and I am certainly sure I am not brainwashed. Also, my dad is a feminist, so how can he hate men?
Anyway, I enjoyed this review. I like the concept of the movie. Not sure I'd watch it, tho. I'll admit I haven't ever watched porn, but I might someday. I'm open to trying new things with my bf. I bet writers wish they had as much power as yours, Hagan. Your jokes were funny, my fav being Maya having sex with a shotgun and how she stashes things all around the woods. XD So, you're doing Blackbeard next. That's quite a change.

It seems they weren't sure whether they wanted to make a porn or a social satire. It's neither fish nor fowl.

Even if this particular flavor of porn was my personal aesthetic cup of tea, I don't think it would work. As far as the social commentary goes, it seems a bit muddled, but I am hardly a specialist in gender politics.

Your point about supporting it because it was made by earnest amateurs is a valid one, but don't you think that quality should count for something?

I don't know. This kind of stuff is way out of my wheelhouse. But it's always interesting to discover new, weird things that are off my personal radar. That's why I watch this show.
  • DiamandaHagan
    avatar
Sure quality counts for stuff. But it wasn't why I was recommending it, the shortcomings were obvious. For me something doesn't need to be well made to be worthwhile. It just helps.

But then again my taste in movies is weird (Raspberry Reich is one of my fave films!)
  • archer1949
    avatar
Actually, I checked out Raspberry Reich after seeing your review. I really kinda dug it. It was rough, but had a very "I don't give a fuck!" Punk Rock ethos that overcame the weirdness.

But that was still well made, in many respects. This one doesn't seem to have the same artistry.

Loved when you said that people who think women with penises and men with vaginas are funny should fuck of! :D And I liked the review as usual. But I kinda hope that you will review the film this is based on. Is it really so transfobic?

If it is I´m actually quite scared, I´m a girl in boys body and we have enough of "normal" people calling us freaks and even wanting to kill us. It hurts when someone from the LGB community starts doing that too.

It would have been so much easyer if I really could have been a straight guy but I´m not, I may like girls but that doesn´t make me a guy. We don´t go trough this process for fun and we often feel like outcasts anyway. Why would we do this if we had a choice?

Any way, thank you for another fun review and also your support. :3
  • DiamandaHagan

Iv still not seen the gendercator so I can't 100% say but from what I'v read it certainly sounds like it.

As for LGB people who are transphobic, yeah they exist. Like there are T people who are homophobic or LGT people who are biphobic. There's an extra bit of tragedy in people who should know better being like that.
  • Thessa
    avatar
Yeah, true. It´s like when people who have suffered from racism express racism themselves. :/

There are so many thing I never knew I never knew..

And now I know a little, and I'm very confused.

My brain actually hurts trying to figure this movie out..

I've tried to type out my reaction/response/ thoughts on this film without saying something offensive several times but can't seem to do it. Someone's going to say i'm generalizing and such.. but eh, screw it. I've been out for 15 years, i'm pretty sure I have a good handle on the gay community.

The best I can describe my reaction is to say is the reason behind why the "G" of LGBT doesn't get along with "T" is suddenly very apparent. It's only the common enemy that unites them - and that's really not a very good basis for an alliance. Otherwise the belief systems are just so completed opposed. The typical gay man idealizes masculinity, moreso than the average straight man, and puts considerable effort into trying to be that masculine ideal. You should see the documentaries on gay men obsessed with being butch/muscular/etc... It's all an attempt to avoid being considered "something in the middle." If gender is a spectrum and "man" is one side and "woman" is the other - more than other groups gay men try to avoid confusion and being perceived as being in the middle at all costs. (Even drag queens are seen as "men" who are talented at portraying "women", not "men-women.")

So when something like this comes along and is so androgynous that I can't even tell where the character started with their gender as a basic point of reference and everything is all very.. "muddy" for lack of a better term.. it makes the reasons why the two groups don't get along very obvious.

I don´t know, I have many gay and lesbian friends who concider me to be just another lesbian and even though they are curious about how the transition process works and is going it´s not something that they define me on.

And not all of us are really even androgynous, I was lucky enough to be quite feminine even before hormones and even often already concidered a woman by strangers.

Most of us don´t want to be concidered something from the middle either but as straight or gay men and women, who just were born in a wrong body, as it is. And to those of us that are attracted to the same sex (the real same sex), it´s impotant to be exepted by other bi and homosexuals. Like I have been lucky enough to be.
  • cheshire

@Loric you are ignoring both that trans people are often quite masculine/feminine and that many trans people are gay.

The big problem with a lot of the second-wave feminist philosophy I've seen is that it's just flat out mis-labeled...I generally completely agree with most first and a good proportion of third wave feminism in terms of them both largely aiming for a degree of equality. You look into the likes of Solanas or Dworkin though and it crosses a line from feminism into full-blown mysandry. Dworkin in particular I find to be almost self-defeating, she argues so vehemently AGAINST perceived male threats that she ceases to really argue FOR female equality. It's that "arguing against a position" in contrast to "arguing for equality" that tends to push it over that line for me.

Nice to see someone point out the distinction though, I've seen so many people lump everything from the Suffragette movement to the SCUMM manifesto as being the same thing and that makes no more sense than saying "well, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Sartre and Derrida all have some existential views so they're just the same thing".
