Great overall view of everything that is wrong with SOPA. It's interesting to hear how they've modified the bill recently, but it still doesn't address the bill's major flaws (mainly its ambiguous language). I'll definitely be showing this video to my friends and family, many of whom still don't understand why this bill is detrimental to even their casual surfing.
Thanks for putting it together! Your videos are always fun and educational! 5/5

Psh! You make marijuana legal & underground marijuana pushers will go out of business because of the overwhelming amount of cheaper legal competition, duh! & I went to school with weed smokers; all that shit does is make you lazy, hungry, & highly amused.
Don't pro-SOPA businesses hate Wikipedia because they list business-related controversies with citations? They'll probably laugh at the blackout as a pointless joke of a gesture.

I was happy to hear that no only are there a good number of companies and organizations standing up against the SOPA bill but also to hear that several supporters of the bill either dropped out or changed sides. I can only hope that Congress will finally wake up and see just how vaguely written the bill is and how much it would actually hurt all of us.
Be strong everyone and hope for the best. I can only hope that not only will his whole debacle end soon but that it will end in our favor

... sounds as stupid as a proposed internet "STOP-sign" some years ago by german minister Ursula Van de Leyen. The reason for the proposed law was to fight child pornography in the net. which of course was bull.
Thankfully, the law was scrapped after months of protest. But Van der Leyen is still a dickhead.
Oh, did I mention that she got her own nickname on the internet and a song?

01.14.2012 - 07:30 | Dred LilyIt's nice to see all this support in thwarting SOPA, but I think we also need just as much attention put onto PIPA as well. Still, let's do what we can to make sure these bills are stopped in their tracks.

They did same thing with booze. I recall. How did that turn out again?
This is why politician should not interfere with the internet or any other kind of tech. They think they are living in 1980s or something.

01.14.2012 - 08:30 | SlothfulI love how you can plainly see how his district is gerrymandered. It takes a slice of central San Antonio and a slice of central Austin in order to make sure the democrats in those areas get drowned out by the rural republicans.
A lot of Texas elections are kind of a joke,it's not common for democrats to get much of a foothold, and sometimes incumbents just run unopposed, but according to wikipedia, this guy only got 68% of the vote back in 2010, so he's got a small chance of being kicked out.

Wow, you can really hear that CR's pissed and I don't blame him. This ass sounds like an American version of a politician we got here in the Netherlands, Geert Wilders, who doesn't have as much say, but still influence, but he's just a xenophobic pissant in general, belittling and insulting political opponents and minorities.
People like this should be thrown out into the sea and left to find an island for their own where they can only harm each other and leave decent human beings alone.

01.14.2012 - 11:31 | MrBogeyAnger and opposition doesn't get people elected or unelected. You need to get a clear and concise goal (defeating Lamar Smith), a clear and agreed upon action to achieve the goal (elect "specific guy"), and then mobilization to that end.
Meaning if you really want to defeat him you'll need to get supporters in his district to spend time on election day on a get out the vote effort. I don't mean holding signs and yelling. I mean going door to door and telling people that it's election day and that they need to go vote out the bum.
You know this is what incumbents do. If you've any chance of beating them it's what needs to be done. Sometimes though you'll have awful candidates. Ones who just aren't going to get support. So in those times you'll need a good recruitment effort.
Hell, I wonder how come we don't see open adverts for candidates. Something like "Large organization seeks local person who fits 'x' criteria. Will fund campaign. Interview required."

I dont feel like I can do anything, I all ready singed the petition agents this bill and I dont live in Texas. I cant even find a email address I know for sure I can send to my congressmen. Besides, I'm fairly sure this bill wont pass, even if it did the backlash for it once its passed will be insane and it will prop be over ruled by the Supreme Court.

I generally detest politics, and stay away from political videos whenever I can. The fact that not only did I watch this all the way through 100%, but *rewatched* it, and sent it to friends to watch it, should say everything about how well you put these together, CR. Keep it up! Help fight the good fight!
As a Canadian, I'm sad that I can't contact my own representative to bring this to attention, since it's a US law. About all I could do was bring it up and say 'Let's not do this like they did'. .... and pray that it doesn't get through. As it is, we already can't access most of the online official recordings in Canada. :(
If there are suggestions of how a no-passport Canadian can add their voice to the mix (aside from the obvious donation to the blackout drive), this Canadian's more than willing to hear it!
P.S.: major, *major* kudos for how you managed to get your voice as impassioned as it is in this video, without screaming your head off. Every word's like a whipsnap, and shows your anger *beautifully* without having to really raise your voice. I want lessons in that!

Having politicians pass laws for technology is like lending your grandparents your new iPad.
Most of these people have little to no knowledge (or even used) the internet, videogames, etc. yet they still are allowed to pass laws and restrictions on them. I'm not saying they all have to be experts but I hate it when politicians who know nothing about tech act like they know what they are talking about.

I'm glad that you've made this video. You made a good explanation on SOPA and PIPA and have even told me that Lamar faces election this year. That is a good sign. If his own district is starting to speak out against his bill, it's more than likely they'll get him out of office at the first chance.
Wikipedia having a blackout would be a sure-fire way to get our voices heard. Facebook is considering a blackout too, so I really hope that they decide to go dark too.
This is the first instance in which websites have publicly come out against a bill like this in such a loud voice; that should tell anybody, especially Lamar, that it's a serious problem.

01.14.2012 - 14:13 | danielsangeoI'd just like to mention that the Obama administration is currently against SOPA/PIPA as well. That does NOT mean that our work has ended -- continue to contact your Congresspeople and let them know that you are against SOPA/PIPA. We can't let the possibility of a veto cause us to rest on our laurels; that decision could change and, if we don't let our representatives and senators hear our voice, it's a possibility that the business interests behind SOPA/PIPA would cause an overturning of a veto, if it happens.
So, get out there, tell your friends, family, and even people you don't know about SOPA/PIPA and tell them to oppose it so that it doesn't even get to Obama's desk.
Thank you.
