I loved this special as a kid. As CR stated, the animation is fantastic. It's amazing how much dedication the animators put into every single character, expression and special effect. Considering that this is claymation it took a lot of work to make it perfect.
Hope you do the Christmas Special as well, CR. That one was great as well.

Looking at Vinton's work compared to Aardman's, Vinton's claymation has this very creepy quality to it that really gets to me. I think the best example of this is the Mark Twain movie he did. What a twisted film. :)
Good review overall. Hope to see you do the Christmas one when that season rolls around.

That did seem like an interesting short and I wouldn't mind picking it up if I spotted it in the store.
I liked that you referenced Monty Python and then took it further by arguing with Patsy. Nice job on that one. Also, I would imagine you're going to be looking at The Haunted Mask episode of the TV series. I remember that book rather well. Good luck with that and I hope you don't end up with the mask at the end of it all. =)

I think claymation is scary in general.
From when I was a kid to now, whenever I see clay mation I get creeped out.

BTW, you know what a good episode would be? Anyone where remember either from ABC or one of those channels there was this one Halloween special, where this Nosferatu looking guy took these trick or treaters all across time and the world to teach them about the history of mummies, witches, gargoyles, and Mexico's day of the dead? It was animated and on TV every year in October through the 90s.
Edit: I FOUND IT! It's Called "The Halloween Tree"

Great stuff CR.
"So it is written. And so, as the nights draw in, the Darkness gathers once more to take its annual stab at the mortal plane."
"Once and again, Evil rears its hideous head, in the hope that at last, this year the forces of the underworld will take their final vengeance against the smug mortals."
"However, long it is since their primitive superstitions instilled the fear of the unkown, and ever more horrible must they become to assert their dominance."
"Not that it will do them any good, for all the tortures they can muster vanish like so much cheap smoke, in the light of All-saint's Day."
So, um, yeah. Enjoy Halloween folks. ;D

This would come on tv at halloween all the time, and i both hated it and loved the animation. I never wanted to watch it, but i was glued when it was on. And for some reason i thought i remembered part of a scene where the pig is riding the big frankenstein and "Low Rider" is playing... am i mistaking that for another movie?
