Name one movie based on cartoon that is actually good. Personally I don't see the point in adapting cartoons into movies. Why? Two reasons.
1) Because catroons are already films in their own right, only they are animated films. This is already this same medium - film. You already have motion, sound, voice of actors, music etc. So what's the point in making live action version of cartoon?
2) There are things that work only in cartoon. For exemple "Scooby-Doo" and "Flintstones". They never ment to be on big screen. Scooby is about talking dog... about, freaking, walking, talking dog! Can you suspend your disbelief and belief that walking, talking dog can exist in our reallity? Because I can.

If you mean live-action adaptations of cartoons, then I'll gladly agree with you. But if you mean that even animated movies based on TV cartoons suck, then we must fight.
For animated films based on animated TV series, I can name at least three that are good: the Ducktales movie, the Goofy Movie, and the Powerpuff Girls movie.
Keep in mind that the above is my OPINION and you can (probably will) disagree.
Oh, by the way, just thought you'd like to know that The Flintstones actually DID get an animated film, back in the 60's. It was titled "The Man Called Flintstone". It's been awhile since I've seen it so I don't remember if it was any good.

Though I think he mostly means they need to at least be revived in some way, rather than being forgotten.

There's a bit of irony in this line. :) Yeah, this whole "take violence out of kids show" stuff confuses me. It's not the portrayal of violence but HOW it's portrayed that matters. Also, the more sanitized kids shows get the more violent our kids become. Think they need to find a resolution that would actually work.

While several of these might make good animated movies, almost none would make good live action movies.
The only exception would be Static Shock and batman Beyond, and that's only because we are lucky enough to live in an era where super hero movies can finally receive enough budget and serious attention to be good. The main problem with these movies is I doubt Hollywood would "get it". Batman beyond features the problem BB mentions: Audiences want present day Batman fighting the Joker, and little else. Static Shock brings up the ugly issue of Hollywood racism.
Darkwing Duck and Swat Kats would quickly become like the Smurfs: Bad CGI in the "Real World". Freakazoid and Kim Possible would be character ruined instead.

11.25.2012 - 16:23 | TheKidCriticFor a KP movie just get the voice actors to play the parts. At least theyll sound the same. Static shock has a couple really good fanfilms online. Terry McGinnis will forever by my batman

12.09.2012 - 13:43 | otakuchick45I want a Kim Possible live-action movie. It would be the best thing ever, especially since the advance of technology would help with that aspect of the show. I loved Kim as a kid, she was so cool. And I recognized every single one of the clips he played from the show. I would watch the shit out of a Kim Possible live-action movie. Though, I do believe there were several Kim Possible movies, right? Just with the animated characters.

Honestly I could see all these cartoons working as movies, as long as they're animated movies. Rather than making them live-action or CGI *shudders* the animators, original voice-actors, creators, etc. from the respective shows should be brought back to collaborate on said projects. Basically like the TV movies Ego Trip (Dexter's Laboratory), A Sitch in Time and So The Drama (Kim Possible) Billy & Mandy's Big Boogey Adventure, The Grim Adventures of the KND and Underfist, even though that revolved more around secondary characters rather than Grim, Billy and Mandy. Just give them official theatrical release run times rather than the hour block for the TV movies.

I might get a bit of flak for this, but to be honest I'd like to see a movie for MLP:FiM, just as long as it stays in Equestria and doesn't include humans. The writing staff for the show has proven that they're capable of creating plots that could easily last an hour and a half, and they'd be able to as well if they weren't constrained by their half-hour timeslots.

I thought that I'd love to see an MLP:FiM movie, but then I realized that such a thing would have to go through the same Hollywood crap that ruins every other movie.
Hasbro would have to partner with some other Hollywood studio, which would immediately force really stupid ideas onto the production, such as their own scriptwriter who wouldn't know or care about what's come before, celebrity voices (you should hear what Tara Strong has to say about THAT one), and probably different animation style (since Hollywood has a hard-on for CGI).
Plus, you know any Pony film would be focus-grouped to death by risk-averse Hollywood fatcats. Hasbro's hands-off approach helped them with Transformers, but it would backfire horribly with Pony.
What would benefit MLP the most would be direct-to-video or TV movies. Similar story length but without as much interference by the big players.

I have to disagree with you about the general public not accepting a BATMAN BEYOND movie. God knows, if general audiences can accept the various interpretations of Batman we've had in the past 50 years,I think they can accept the future version, especially if the old Batman/Bruce Wayne is involved to provide the connection.
Frankly, I think ELSEWORLDS stuff like GOTHAM BY GASLIGHT could work as a movie. The image of Batman is strong enough to handle various interpretations.

I'm assuming you're referencing the flash-forward he did of fandoms that were put into futuristic settings, and the posters that correlated. In that case, the series that was shown for Sherlock is actually called Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century. I was very obsessed with that show at one point as a Sherlockian, lol. Mind you, I was much younger at the time.
-
11.25.2012 - 21:51 | FiangBilly and Mandy should DEFINITELY be made into a movie. There's just way too many possibilities there. I'd love to see it directed by Tim Burton. He could take the darker, creepier themes in the show and run wild with it. And you know how he is with that morbid sense of humor he has. It would be creepy as it would be hilarious. Dexter's Lab however, might not make a good movie. If they didn't make it a serious film, I'm scared it would end up like another Inspector Gadget instance where the live action and the cartoonish stunts were merged together and made a gross mess of the whole movie.
*deep, deep, deep inhale* FREAKAZZZOOOIIIIIDDDD! Is mah shit. I don't care how bad the movie version may or may not be, live action or animated, I would watch it. I would watch the hell out of it. But so help me if it's entirely CGI. A little, I can take, but not the entire film.

I would love to see Static Shock as a movie, but I get the feeling the stero type high school drama would beat down a good show.
that and as we have all see bad script writing. It would be great and hopefully not to high of a budget to take a gamble on.
most of the shows I grew up with but wasn't a fan of ( if i did watch it, it was because nothing else was on)
