09.23.2012 - 23:09 | Sir LuchadoreAw..you mean you don't want a talking CG'd snarf with Shia LeBeouf doing the voice? I'm kidding of course that would be just awful.

This...if this would happen. I would be behind it most definitely. Of course they best have the proper actors to fit each roll and a have proper, accurate script. Respect the series. (Which means the right director as well. An incorrect one would be Bay.) I would definitely go for make up as well over CGI. It may cost more, but it would be worth it I'm sure. I agree with these actors quite well. I'm not sure on an adult Lion O though. So I will stick with the idea of a younger version in body not just mind. What the script could be...I don't know. The most obvious one is the origin. Start off from the beginning. As for where in the beginning to start...perhaps in the last amount of time before Thundara explodes. Show how it was destroyed. What was the weapon. Then go on.

Hell, I personally would go with the guy that does the voice of the new Lion-O, Will Friedle himself. Not only is he a great Voice actor, he has proven that he can be a great actor in general. Talking about a guy that voiced Terry McGinnis / Batman in Batman Beyond.

I have to agree with you on Lee as Mumm Ra's voice/decrepit body, though I would have also considered someone such as Sir Ian McKellen or Robert Axelrod (Finster & Lord Zedd in MMPR) as a possibility as well.
As for a more adult Lion-O, I would consider someone such as Johnny Yong Bosch or Daniel Southworth for the role. Both are good actors, and both have a LOT of training in stunts and martial arts, which means they would have less issues playing the more physical side of the role.
As a bonus, I'd put Koichi Sakamoto as one of the fight coordinators/directors for the movie. Some of his work includes live stunt shows Blue Mask from Maskman, stunt coordinator and action unit director for Power Rangers since around 1995 (staying as a director or executive producer under Disney's reign, being replaced, returning to Action Director for Saban with PR: Samurai), A.U.D. & choreographer for Wendy Wu, stunt training for Tankboy TV, and various Toku's such as Gokaiger, Kamen Rider W Forever: A to Z, and even series director for Kamen Rider Fourze (recently finished).

Ah Thundercats, one of those shows I liked but never loved, but it was still awesome.
The only choice I would have to disagree with is Chloe Moretz, because I hate Hit-Girl, and just Kick-Ass in general. I hate to go on a rant but I'm bored and I need to vent. Really I don't know what it is but I just don't like the character or the actress, at all. I know she is putting her all into her performances and she's probably a really nice person, but there is just something about her that rubs me the wrong way. I guess its just that she tries too hard and it comes off weird. Plus it doesn't help that the first movie I saw her in was Kick-Ass, and as I said I hated it.
I just found her character to be silly and annoying as opposed to cool. And no I wasn't offended by the violence, I guess I just thought the movie stupid, like how horror movie enthusiasts find Scream stupid. Can't I just have a super hero movie, and not some dumb deconstruction of it. Is that so hard to ask...
And again this all personal preference, if you like Kick-Ass, I don't care. I just don't like it.
And Rant over...Man I was bored. :P

09.24.2012 - 03:36 | TrencherYeah Kick - ass is the most overated movie lately.
Not only because its bad, poor timing and changes genres constantly but its pornographic way of showing violence made it an instant hit.
-
09.24.2012 - 09:28 | TheTubaGeekAnd, don't forget ... they are making a sequel.
-
09.24.2012 - 14:46 | TrencherAtleast everyone of my friends are not going to recomend it for me now..
-
09.24.2012 - 03:37 | TrencherI never really caught the show but the list you got is interesting Erod.
But I think we all know who would play the lead if it ever got made.. Shia "the chosen one" Lebouf.
-
09.24.2012 - 09:27 | TheTubaGeekThat would only happen if Michael Bay got the nod to direct the film (oh, God, please no!)

I think this is one of your best Casting Couches to date. Initially, I wondered if you were considering an animated version, but I won't complain about a live-action version with well-done practical makeup effects.
I do agree that slightly younger actors would be better to play Cheetara and Tygra; however, since they are wearing practical makeup, you wouldn't be able to tell how old or young those actors are.
I'll take Casper's idea and put a twist on it by saying I think Liam Hemsworth would make a great demon version Mumm-Ra. He's younger but is physically strong and definitely has the physique to pull it off. Or, (and I know how much you are not a fan of this, but hear me out), you could always do what they have done for the most recent Hulk movies (CGI with Christopher Lee VO).
In terms of casting an older individual for Lion-O, I would pick Jim Kaveizel. He's older (but not too old), has swordplay experience (Count of Monte Cristo) and could build up his physique given adequate time to do so.
Question: Did you at any point consider Michael Clarke Duncan for Panthro before his unfortunate passing? Not saying I don't like your choice of Ving Raymes, but I was just curious.
-
Here's a second choice for the adult Lion-O: Ryan Kwanten (Jason Stackhouse on "True Blood"). He's not as old as Caviezel (sorry misspelled it the first time) and definitely has the physique for the role.
Thoughts?

09.24.2012 - 09:26 | TheTubaGeekWhat, you'd rather see Silverhawks or Bravestar turned into a movie (though I'd have to admit, either of those would be cool)

Actually, some years ago Stephen Perry, one of the original TCats and SilverHawks writers was working on a SilverHawks movie project until he was brutally murdered. A good friend of mine was close to him and told us about it on the New Hawk Haven forum. He was so excited about the project and was keeping us fans updated on his progress. Sadly it was all scrapped after he was murdered.

Awesome list, E-Rod! There are a lot of good choices here (even if I don't know half of these actors since I don't pay attention to such things), I'd love to see a movie with them- preferably based on the latest series)(even if it's my own bias).
(I hope they make a DVD for that show, I'm sorry I missed out on it last time... stupid lack of foresight...)
-
09.24.2012 - 09:25 | TheTubaGeekYou can find DVDs of the original series pretty easily, but I agree that the new series deserves a similar treatment.

There is only one problem I have with your casting couch is that more often then not you type cast rather then fill in for the character. Like Liono would be better if you chose someone who is either a older teen and or young adult but not the guy who played Arthur in Merlin, I feel you only chose that part for him because of that roll. It is like chosing Bruce Camble because he played Ash rather then he is a great actor like he has proven in shows like Burn Notice and movies like The Man With the Screaming Brain. It just doesn't feel right.Joseph Gordon-Levitt may be too obvuse and you used him in your TT CC but sense lately he makes films better lime Premium Rush (Which he made better)and he can do take control rolls like he did for the last Nolen Batman movie he would be a great Liono and it will give him the chance to exspand his resume. For an Adult Liono I would pick Chris Hemsworth. He is a fresher face and this would help him transition into more Sci-fi roles. It would also allow him to distance himself from Thor, as Liono learns to be a leader and would be childish it would let us see more of his range.
The only other real problem I had was Wilykit and Wilykat, the actors you chose may be able to act but I feel like they are the ONLY choice when it comes to famous child actors. I mean it not like the 80's when you can find a half way decent child actor if you look hard enough, and another Elijah isn't going to come around. So maybe the best idea would get 2 nobodies and make The Thundercats there break out role rather then use what Hollywood had to offer.

Why not have a young AND old Lion-O in the movie? You see, if they made a movie, they could make it about his progression. Starting him off as a teen who has a lot to learn, and could have a story based around his progression. Showing him get older, and turn into the true leader he was supposed to be. I think that would be interesting.

Man,I HATED some aspects of the new version of the TC. Particularly what they did with Tygra; in the original Tygra was an architech and the most noble member of the theam. In the new version he's an asshole who seems to be there only to complain and never acknowledges Lion-O's merits. I like the new version of Lion-O,but that (much-maligned) "love triangle" they did with Cheetara was stupid and unnecessary. Personally,I wouldn't mind if the new series gets canned (and apparently it has been canned).

09.30.2012 - 02:53 | PurpleTiger
For me, the love triangle was the only aspect I couldn't stand personally. Most everything else I liked, though I do agree Tygra was kinda turned into a prick. I really liked the eventual origin story he got, though, and especially his interactions with Lion-O. I always pictured it as him not quite being the noble person he is in the original series, but rather working his way towards it.
