I kinda liked the movie with Silver Surfer tbh. Ofc I see what you´re saying here, they could have focused more on him (and less on the wedding...). I loved how he looked though.
Maybe they thought only people who know who SIlver Surfer is will watch it? ;P
And you said it´s an insult to the character? Well try the Nintendo game and weep :D I bet James Rolfe will gladly give it to you for a try, hehe. After seeing how insulting that thing is, you´ll beg to watch the movie instead xD

It's worth keeping in mind that there was a planned Silver Surfer movie, and they probably wanted to save his origin story for that. I'm sure Erod is aware of this, too.
On a similar note, it was heavily rumoured that they avoided revealing Galactus in this movie to actually first show him in said spin-off.
Is it true? Maybe. Is it the wisest plan? Maybe not. Is it possible they had a plan? Yeah.

02.06.2012 - 04:10 | AkaiThey really don't do their research on the source material on these comic book movies do they?

Akai, usually what movie makers do is buying the rights to make the movie, and then they just do what the hell they want with it. Sometimes the authors of source material will have their word to say and in very rare cases they will contribute to the movies directly. So yeah, most of the time going to the movie theater to see a new comic related movie is pure gamble. However recently it seems they decided to care more about them as they are remaking the Spiderman movies with Andrew Garfield instead of Tobey Maguire.
P.S. E-Rod are you really surprised with the Roger Corman version? This man takes pride in making cheezy B-movies, I think that's all he ever did!

ANGEL DEFEATING GOD!! Yes! Thank you. I actually liked the second movie (a lot more than the first anyway - side note, I was there when they shot wedding scene atop the baxter building in Vancouver! Yippee for me.) but what I could not get over was the ending. I was sitting there with my friends around the TV, watching them nod and go "hmm, that wasn't bad", thinking "wha....?!" I was doing the finger pyramid of evil contemplation, waiting and hoping you'd bring it up.
And Jessica Alba! Thank god you said it. She's always come off as a little girl to me, not a woman, which is actually my biggest peeve with these movies. Do you hear that world? I am not alone in my pain! I always remember the character taking charge and being authoritive when she needed to be. Who the hell would take orders from Alba? (Outside of the bedroom, for those so inclined). Maria Bello would have been much better, though personally I'd have rather had Elizabeth Banks, who was in the running, but maybe that's just me.
As for the older FF movie, as I understand it, it was made for the sole purpose of keeping hold of the rights and, while the actors were never told any of this, it was never intended to see the light of day. Shit one, right?
And I'm right with you on the second season of the animated series - the opening moments of the seasons first episode alone are some of the coolest moments I saw as a kid, but then I remember the Iron Man animated show being much the same - with the second season being miles better than the first.
Nice list man. Lotta fun. I have to wonder though, what did you think about Doom not having his accent?

I do have to say, I still have SOME problems with you, your style of making videos and your style of humor. That being said, I have had this with other reviewers before, it took me a while to get into their reviews. I tried getting into Diamanda Hagan (I think she got here the same time you did) and as much as I respect her, I have to say that her videos are not my thing, she's good, but ... not for me.
And while I do have bigger problems with you, I somehow can see a potential for you to be one of the guys I'd watch. Don't know, maybe your videos are changing for the better, maybe it's just me realizing that some things you do are meant to be silly, they are meant to be stupid, so I can finally laugh at them.
Woooowwwww, I again deliver such graceful compliments that it feels like I'm giving someone a wedgie... I apologize! Guess I should instead talk about the movies. Well, I remember never understanding why people had a problem with Jessica Alba... Yeah, she doesn't fit perfectly, but her acting isn't bad! ... but then I remembered that I was watching the German dub of the movie, so I took a look at the English original and then all was clear to me. UGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!! She's HORRIBLE!
It's strange how much potential the Fantastic 4 have as a superhero team and yet people mess them up so easily, but on the other hand, it's not like every second superhero movie/Tv-Series is a big masterpiece either....
LAST NOTE: The Fantastic 4 sitcom thing. It was an easy joke to make, but it was rather one of those "too bad to ignore" jokes, so while fortellable, I am glad you delivered it the way you did!

My problem with the Sue Storm in the movie is she is written as 100% male fantasy. She looks like Jessica Alba, she's seen naked on multiple times and just brushes it off, her reaction to seeing Reed dance with all the other women was "oh, glad you had fun :3" and any other time Reed doesn't listen to her she doesn't say shit. Does this sound like real woman?
But year, The Invisible Woman is the stronger member of the Fantastic 4. Her powers have come to the point where she can create force fields anywhere and expand them. So, lets say she creates one in, I don't know, someone's skull? Yeah, none of the other members of the teams and kill someone so easily.

02.06.2012 - 12:35 | chrismccart
Yeah, and wasn't there an episode of the animated series where she had to put a forcefield around the entire city at once? And one where Doom planted this experimental explosive device and she had to contain all the force of the explosion by herself? Let's see Reed do that!
......God, I don't sound like a geek at all!

02.06.2012 - 10:47 | BretboIf you think the Corman FF movie was bad you should have seen the '70s Hanna Barbera Thing cartoon. It was bad...real bad. First, he was a high school kid named Benjy Grimm. Secondly, he transformed into the Thing by connecting two rings (one on each hand) that activated the transformation; resighting the phrase "Thing Ring do your thing!" And begin a '70s cartoon he never battled super-villains, just go into High School hijinx or stopped the occasional robber.
Yeah, horrible.

02.06.2012 - 11:15 | yourworstnightmareJessica Alba hasn't been good since Dark Angel. And in that show she wasn't require to do any serious acting, just kicking ass. So she is a very limited actress who has probably already done all the roles she had capacity to do.

Yeah Dr. Doom's characterization was all sorts of wrong not only is he an idiot with almost zero motivation but they never clearly establish his sole character trait: Megalomania in fact I'd argue he is The Megalomaniac of all comicdom his over-inflated ego entirely defines him from his choice to cover his face to hide what by Stan Lee's account is a barely noticeable scar to his pathological hatred of Reed entirely motivated by the fact the guy is just slightly smarter than him, hell its pretty much laid in multiple stories in no uncertain terms that if the man could just get over himself he could arguably lead the world into paradise.

02.06.2012 - 19:47 | Chris McFeelyWell, I'm already disagreeing with the very first point. Stan and Jack didn't need to show the Surfer's origin when they created him (because it was only invented later) and the story worked absolutely fine and is revered as a classic. The film didn't need to do it, and the Surfer's fine in it as is. And now, back to the video...

02.06.2012 - 19:58 | Santa PrimeHey man I can see your passionate about movies but maybe you should change your opening a bit. Spending a lot of time letting us know you hate SW eps.1. I get that it's important to you but you should really include some other movies you don't like. There is definitely a bit of fatigue going on with people bashing the SW prequels(including myself). I don't know if you've changed it recently since this is an older episode of yours. It could back fire on you before too long.

The reboot is on the movies since FOX is moving forward for it. And no, Marvel is not getting a reboot because it doesn't need one(DC didn't really need one either, even though every five years it gets somewhat rebooted, but WB loves to ruined its properties to make a quick buck out of it). Trust me, Disney has a better handled on Marvel than WB has on DC.

Hey, BB, why do you have kind of "seasons" where you take a break? Yeah, a break is nice, but some of the reviewers on this site, like Linkara and the Critic, don't. While there are some that do, like Film Brain and I think the Chick took a quick hiatus for a bit in 2010, it seems kind of like cheating. Thanks for posting your old videos, though. At least you do that. Film Brain just does Projectors which aren't nearly as funny as his Bad Movie Beatdowns.

I think he does it for the same reason a lot of reviewers do. Because it's a lot of work to make reviews, and they want to be able to have lives outside of what we see on the internet. Many of the reviewers have other jobs or go to school, so where they get the time to post oft-times weekly reviews, I couldn't tell you. I have a job and a barely clinging social life and I can't even bring myself to finish making ONE.
I'm not calling you out, though I know that just sounded a lot like it, lol. I just wanted to make sure that people remember that the reviewers on this website, whether full-time reviewers like Linkara and Doug, or leisure updaters like Erod and MikeJ, aren't just the personalities we see them as on here. I guess it just urks me a little to see people call others out on taking a break from something they're entertaining you with for free because as a fanfic authoress I get poked a LOT for updates, when I barely have time to finish a one-shot let alone write the ten-thousand chapters everyone's waiting for.
Holy crap, that just went on a total rantangent. Sorry 'bout that, lol.

02.07.2012 - 01:19 | YouAskedForItAn update to my first comment. Ryan Reynolds has technically played 2 Marvel characters, although not so famous. One being Wade in Wolverine, and the other being in Blade: Trinity. As he is also Green Lantern, something is definitely fishy here.

04.22.2012 - 08:25 | BluesI take exception to the diss to the Fantastic Four: World's greatest heroes. It was a good take on it and a good cartoon, it had humour and made Mister Fantastic stand out more, Sue was her typical over powered self but they never threw it in your face. Johnny was more like the movie and The Thing was typical of the thing.
Also I'm surprised by the diss to the first FF cartoon which was one of the better marvel cartoons of that era. Just seems unnecessary in that context.
The Silver Surfer origin wasn't created till his debut I think. The original story didn't have it either. It would have worked best if they hadn't mentioned his origin at all instead of having him give it directly to the audience(and in that cartoon clip, his memory is wiped which is one way to do it).
Every other point is mostly spot on. But didn't Sue drop out of college and never finish.
Edit: I looked it up and you must have been talking about the alternate reality version instead of the "real" version. It's important to make distinctions and not just lump all the traits of characters across every alternate universe. Sue is one of those characters people try to make into a... mary sue.
