01.22.2012 - 23:59 | TheDreReichDudeThe one thing I actually did like about this sequel was that they were talking about how mutants had rights just as humans did, and that Beast (Henry McCoy) was an advocvate for them, just like Professor Xavier had been all along. I mean, in the comics, I think that mutants are accepted more now than they had been in decades past, as they have helped save the Earth in various storylines. However, these X-movies are from the persepctive that humans are afraid of mutants and do not tolarate them. So Charles wants there to be peace between humans and mutants, while his old friend Magneto (Erik Lensherr) just wants to conquer the world and have his Brotherhood of Mutants dominate humanity. Simple enough premise, but this movie was really overstuffed. It had too many characters and not enough proper development of such characters, as well as the fact that the director of the previous two films opted out in order to direct Superman Returns. This film's director ended up delivering an unsatisfactory X-Men movie as a result of not really knowing about the characters he was working with, but I still think that X3 is not one of the worst superhero movies out there. I would rather watch it than Daredevil or Ghost Rider, for example. Anyway, this is just my opinion, do with it what you will!

I hated this movie, HATED IT, with the white hot flames that only nerd rage can produce. I thought the steel movie was okay, and liked Batman forever, and yet THIS sent me into a rage unlike any other.
My major reason was they Raped Rogue's character. Dragged it by it's hair out to the wood shed and did bad things to it. They turned the best character in X-men to a whinny emo bitch.
I can forgive the first movie, first movie she was afraid of her powers, I've got it, I can deal with it. The second movie she was meh. Third movie she's a whinny emo bitch, who takes the first chance she can do have massive surgery to impress a boy.
They took a character who is badass, sexy, who often deals with her problem but loves who she is enough not to do something like cut out a part of herself then they fuck her up.
X-men the animated series did the entire Rogue plot in one episode and did it right. Rogue isn't supposed to be a whiny bitch, she's supposed to be proud of who and what she is.
I also got very VERY pissed at the whole Charles Xavier dying thing. Cyclops I've never been a fan of. But Charles Xavier deserves a good death not being blown to ashes by Phoenix.
Another thing, Pheonix was screwed. They made it some weak "Alternate powers persona", so Jean's life could be invaded and she never tapped it, or the Pheonix hated who Jean saw as her soul mate? I call BS, in the comics Pheonix was a separate being, but the movie made Jean look like a weak pathetic woman.
TO me "X3" set the franchise back decades. I would rather read nineties comics of X-men, than watch the third movie.
I heard they do the same to Raven's character in the new one, and have refused to see it because of that.

#1): "What happened to Nightcrawler?!!"
OH THANKYOU!!! I'm not the only one who's upset about the lack of Nightcrawler in this movie!! Not even a line on what happened to him after 2 or where he went. I WANT MORE FUZZY ELF!! And if Alan's against the makeup process, which IS understandable, then why don't they introduce the watch that puts a hologram of him as a normal human? THAT way, he'd still be there an would spend less time in the makeup. Even trade.
Anyways, good list :)

One of my biggest problems with this movie is they didn't develop Colossus into a character. He's on the promotional art as one of the main characters, for Chrissakes and he's got one or two lines of dialogue and two or three scenes TOPS. He was just there to do the Fastball Special, which was cool but not enough to justify not giving him more of a character! I didn't even care if he wasn't Russian, you promoted him, so SHOWCASE HIM! Also, no Colossus vs Juggernaut fight? Are you serious, guys?

When I first saw this movie in theaters, I was so blinded by all the bad parts that I oversaw the good parts. It wasn't until last month that I watched the movie again and actually enjoyed it for what it was. I think after Wolverine, I can forgive Last Stand for it's faults.
This movie, however, was the first in the franchise that started to frustrate me in terms of the supporting characters, and not one the side of the X-men, but the villains. Sure we had Magneto, Mystique, Juggernaut and Pyro, but there are some characters that are completely out of place, like Jamie Madrox, and some so obscure that I wonder why they were used instead of other more well known characters. For example, Arclight and Quill (oh, I'm sorry I meant Kid Omega). Why are they using such obscure characters and in roles totally different from their comic book counterparts. This continues with First Class with the Hellfire Club and the characters of Azazel and Riptide. Whats wrong with using actual Hellfire club members. I would also make the same comment about Wolverine, but I've only seen that movie like 2 or 3 times through and it's been a long while since I last saw it.
Otherwise, I did actually enjoy the film as it was when I watched it again.

01.23.2012 - 01:35 | NoelVeigaDon't get me wrong, Erod's opinion here is perfectly respectable, but I have to admit I also deeply disliked this one.
I hated the throwaway deaths (I was actually expecting them to bring somebody back for the climax, but apparently somebody thought all of those had an emotional impact). I hated how small scale the presumed "war" ended up being. It turned out to be a minor skirmish. Gang war, maybe, but not the all out conflict anticipated in the previous two. I hated the cop-out at the end, which was outright ass covering in case they wanted another movie but nobody wanted to come back. I hated Juggernaut, which was a one note gag villain. I hated the effects. I never believed that Beast was subject to the rule of gravity and just very strong. He just... floated around. And I hated all ten of the things in this list.
I don't hate Ellen Page, though. Ellen Page was cool.

01.23.2012 - 01:55 | cannedfuryAt the risk of starting riots, X3 ended up my favorite of the 3. But that's mainly because I can't stand Bryan Singer. Well, that and I thought the first two weren't great in plot and characters, either. I can't hate Halle Berry for getting rid of his overblown style and giving Storm a less stupid haircut.

01.23.2012 - 02:08 | TrencherThis movie sucked and sucked hard! Awful in all respect especaly for the misogynist storyline the women loose or choose to loose their powers, Jean's real personality being evil and not able to handle her own power "forcing" Professor X and Magneto to mindrape her and creating an artificial personality to replace the real her. Ereasing all of her character development and her entire character. Also making the killing of Phonix look like a romantic painting was sicking. Awful cowardly movie which hides it message behing political correct bullcrap. The makers of this movie should be beaten with sticks!

In the video game adaption of X-3, titled X-men: The Official Game, it actually explains what happened to Nightcrawler. He was apparently on the team after X-2, but during one of his missions he starts getting visions of Stryker's psychic mutant son who Nightcrawler didn't rescue in X-2.
The psychic son torments him the all game and blames him for his death, and it all ends in a crazy fight with Nightcrawler fighting even more demonic looking versions of himself in that limbo world that Nightcrawler unknowingly moves through whenever he teleports. In the end he makes peace with the kid and forgives himself for it. But I beleive he's still shaken up by this experience and decides to leave so he can get his life in order.
Still, they could have mentioned the guy in this movie at least once.

01.23.2012 - 02:33 | ShunJ89I'm actually surprise that you BB out of all the people on this site like those movies. I hated everyone of them in fact the only X-Men Movie I liked was first class. I'm justified in my hatred. I could list problems with each but the fact is my one problem above all else is I just didn't care.
The Movies didn't make me relate or care about any of the characters and the impact of their death was more of annoyance then sadness simply because I like them in the Comic. All that material wasted until first class where they made me relate to the main cast even future villians.

The biggest problems I had with X3 was the general uselessness of the characters used.
Angel was only there to save his douchebag father and show him that mutants have a useful place in society. They do this by having three mutants kill off his assistant in a heartbeat and then spend the time dragging him up to the roof just to throw him into a situation (or rather over the edge) that only his son could save him from.
Magneto also acts useless in this film. He and his army are going to the island to kill every human being on it. The large part of this plan involves him ripping out a section of the golden gate bridge and floating it over to the island so his brotherhood can cross the bay. So why is it that Magneto has to let his people cross this bridge at all and charge head first into the vaccination weapons instead of just dropping the bridge onto the island a few dozen times?
Magneto's usefulness falters again in the final battle of the film as he lets his army fight off seven mutants, two of them are using mutant abilities based in metal. Why didn't Magneto just chuck Wolverine and Colossus into the ocean?

01.23.2012 - 04:59 | EvilAshTwinIm willing to give the Ice Slide a pass because he didnt show off his Ice Form until the climax of the big battle.
I think you missed the mark on the topic of Rogue. Yes, she never really embraced her powers, but ultimately in the end what pushed her to her decision to have them removed was jealously because she couldnt touch her boyfriend.
I was disappointed to see Multiple Man as a villian.
I thought The Blob was wasted, I would have liked to see him be part of the final battle, instead of a 4 second cameo in the middle of the movie.
On the topic of Scott. I heard that the reason he barely had any screen time AND the reason they killed him off is because James Marsden REALLY didnt want to be in this movie. Heck, he didnt even want to do X2. The only reason he was in X3 is because the movie studio threatened him with legal action in being in breach of his contract.
Ive actually seen people try to claim that Kelsey Grammer was a terrible choice for Beast. I respect people's opinions and everything, but thats like saying Patrick Stewart was a bad choice for Xavier.
Finally, this is just a nitpick. The J in Famke Janssen is actually pronounced with a Y sound. That is the way the Dutch (since she is) pronounces it.

You spent the last three weeks reviewing X-Men? When? Spoiler for the next couple BBs?
Sometime after the second movie was released and before the third came out, I had heard a rumor that the reason why Nightcrawler was cut from the movie was because of controversies over Alan Cumming, an atheist and "sexual deviant" (he's Bisexual and supposedly polygamous) portraying a very religious devote Catholic. Apparently the producers wanted to avoid trouble and replacing the actor would have stirred up another hornet's nest of controversies, so they just cut him from the script entirely. :I
And if you thought what they did to Bobby, Angel, and Psylock was bad, don't get me started on Deadpool in Origins. . . Between Angel, Storm, Nightcrawler, and Deadpool, this franchise has raped my happy place. *sigh* I must now go drown my sorrows in Youtube.

The big problem with X-Men 3 is the same problem Spider-Man 3 ended up having, which is that the director or writers try to cram in as many storylines as possible in what's likely the last movie of the franchise, so you end up with too many plot threads and no satisfactory conclusion for any of them. Each thread becomes weak in a vain effort to be strong together, but it just all ends up like crap.
Too many balls in the air equals shit movie.
I'm worried about the third Nolan Batman movie, because it already has Bane, Catwoman, and Talia Ghul.

I was overseas when this movie premiered. And like the X-men fan I am, had to go see it, only it wasn't in English. I didn't care. I watched this movie in Italian with subtitles and still walked away from this thinking it was bad. It takes something really "special" to be bad no matter the language it is in. This movie succeeded in doing that. The real sad part is that it had so much potential, and enough good parts to almost overlook the many exasperating moments, but "almost" is not "had". This is an honest look and great list of failings from a downward spiraling movie sequel.

I see that others have already mentioned this, but I am also disappointed with what they did with Rogue (with Gambit, she is my favorite X-men), rather than use her character in battle, her character took the cure in the first half hour film, making its role in the movie is practically meaningless. And about the other characters ... it's better not talk about it.

I was very sad when I heard Gambit was cut from the film, knowing there was supposed to be something a lot more to the Rogue story with him in it.
I watched the whole movie thinking every character got shafted in some way shape or form. Characters dying off screen, not showing up or just getting information wrong.
My biggest annoyance was Phoenix, while me liking the character in the comic is very hit or miss the idea that they made a being of such great power and with a cool back story something like split personality? That just ain't right.

01.23.2012 - 16:03 | DisappearingBearsPeople always complain about the third X-Men movie like it somehow killed the franchise or whatever, but personally I don't think the first two movies are really that good. They're slow, plodding films filled with passionless performances. And that's why I don't understand how people can love the first two movies and yet feel lukewarm about Superman Returns, all directed by Bryan Singer. Guys--it's the same style! The same problems! They're ALL boring movies!

Another reason to have Nightcrawler in the movie: He's yet ANOTHER poster child for the mutant cure! Unlike most mutants he was born with his ability, which made him look like a demon that people feared and hated his whole life. There could have been a major arc where he decides whether he should take the cure or not.
