This then in turn lead to an animated cartoon.
  • KungFuMan
The cartoon wasn't too bad, there were some miss episodes usually revolving around Fester, but otherwise the show kept it's weight when it had proper momentum.

i really always loved this show and the movies
they both have there strengths and there weakness
    but they both really rock
  • MisterKorman
I won't lie, but I hate all of those monster-family shows. They're cheesy and overdone (when they were around).
  • starfall42
I always liked the Addams family better than "The Munsters". The Munsters looked weird, but where otherwise a standard sitcom family. The Addams, though, were weird themselves (and proud of it).

Anyway, yes, the plot (of the film) is pointless but the characters are a delight to watch.

    And welcome back!!!!

When I was little, this movie was my introduction to The Addams Family. After this and the cartoon series afterward, it inspired my love of gothic and creepy things. I even liked Addams Family Values, even with it's faults...then came Addams Family Reunion and 'The New' Addams Fammily...why weren't there any riots in the streets over that?

You know what...All In The Family. Now THAT show I would have loved to have seen as a movie back in the 90s. I had so many fond memories of my grandmother and I watching the episodes on Nick at Night when I was a kid. She loved that show.

I might actually want to watch the Addams Family now! Also I was very, very excited to see a new video from you. I always learn a lot from them. Oh, and they're funny too.

I have to admit that the Beverly Hillbillies movie is a total guilty pleasure of mine, since it's extremely nostalgic. Plus the casting in that movie was pretty decent as well, and it was nice to see Lily Tomlin and Dabney Coleman act together on screen since they had actually really great chemistry in Nine to Five.

And yeah while I love this movie, both for genuine and nostalgic reasons, the plot of this movie is pretty damn flimsy; Fester just so happened to be the "son" a loan shark who was owed money by the guy who just so happens to work for his real family. How is that possible? But then again I guess the term "suspension of disbelief" was invented for just these occasions.

Also while I loved and watched The Addams Family movie, I never watched the tv show, but I loved and watched The Munsters all the time on Nick at Nite. Sure its a knock off, but unlike other knock offs was that it had a lot of heart and was a blast to watch, at least for me anyways.

And if you'll excuse me, I have this sudden and odd urge for Tombstone pizza. :)

  • Guitar Ghost  - Lurch is a Vegetarian
    avatar
What a coincidence! While I was at the barbershop, I was reading an "Outdoorsman" type of magazine. One of the articles was about Carel Struycken, the actor that played Lurch in the films. It turns out that he's not only a vegetarian, but also focuses his time in Permaculture. He only eats what grows on his property, which has around 14 fruit trees and countless vegetables.

Wasn't Morticia and Gomez to hot for TV for the unspeakable taboo of sharing a bed?

In the original comic Chaz Addams suggested that M and G weren't even married.

I look forward to the sequel. When I took American Indians in film the professor wishes that Wednesday could come up and spill the truth on some smarmy acts.

    Wow,at long last!

One of the things I absolutely love about this movie is the cinematography. At times it looks like a cross between a Tim Burton movie and a Sam Raimi one. The plot is weak as all Hell, but Christopher Lloyd as Fester is just a hoot.

The only thing that brings the movie down is the shameless attempt to make it "hip" to the kids by a inserting a freaking M.C Hammer song (ugh!).

And in the sequel's credits, Tag Team! That didn't get dated at all....

"WHOOMP! There they are! The Addams Fam-i-ly!"

I always heard about the Addams family, and my Spanish teacher had us memorize the forms of Ser to the Addams family theme.

"Soy eres es" *snap* *snap* "Soy eres es" *snap* *snap* ...

The show actually looks really cute, I'll look into it. Nice review, thumbs up!

OHHHHHH thank God you're back Lindsay!!!!!!! It's good to hear a movie analysis again! The Nostalgia Critic's movie synopsis, making fun of good movies annoying, and occasionally funny, but mostly not skits were becoming stale!
  • alexthed

You know, Lindsay would make a good Morticia. I'm cross on Gomez. I can't decide between Doug or Paw.
  • Dacilriel
I think Oancitizen could pull it off.

Totally agree. He was my other choice. Maybe I just had the Les Mis review on my mind.

    The Munsters.

I love this movie. Like you said, it works because of the little things throughout the film. I try to watch it every year around Halloween.

McDonalds had a promotion at one point in the early 90's which was you bought a VHS tape with a combo meal. My aunt that year had major surgery and couldn't afford as expensive as a gift as she usually did. My Grandma (my Grandparents raised me) told me that she didn't have that much money and not to be rude and to say thank you to whatever present I got. I got the McDonalds Addams Family movie tape, and Wayne's world. I gave her a sincere thank you for my presents and did not need the nagging before hand. I still have those tapes actually.

Family Values is my favorite Addams Family movie. I love those summer camp scenes.
  • flarepunk  - Finally, a NEW one!
Thank you so much Lindsay for uploading a new video! I always loved the Addams Family, but I never remembered the plot. When I was young I didn't know why... but the casting really DOES outshine everything else about this movie. Fave Morticia - though this is the first Morticia I ever knew.

Waited for quite a while for a Nostalgia Chick review, and it's The Addams Family. xD Aaaaw yisss. Good, good!

Agreed, though, the second movie is much weaker. Eh... But the first movie--definitely a fun watch. xD
  • Dacilriel
    Yay more Nostalgia Chick!

This practically never happens with any of the reviews I watch, but I think I actually agree with everything you said. I like all the strengths you pointed out and acknowledge all the same weaknesses. Weird.

I liked the second movie much better than the first, so I'm curious to see what you have to say next week.

I thought the 90's movie of "Leave it to Beaver" was a vast improvement on the source material.
  • Vercalos
I actually love the film, to be honest.

On a side-note, the Beverly Hillbillies film is kind of a guilty pleasure for me.
  • clammy

I missed you Lindsy/lyndsy (Im not creepy enough to google the spelling of your name).

I haven't really seen this movie, but I do have a question: does a Raul Julia good acting job is this? (here, fishy fishy)
  • Axel Osbourne

Really, nothing? Nobody thinks he was good: nobody thinks that if he had lived, he might have conquered the acting WORLD?

I'm convinced the Adams were immortal, which is why the kids can constantly kill one another and why death and pain don't frighten them.

Wednesday and Puggsley literally cut each other's limbs off, blood sprays everywhere, and in the next scene they're fine. I'd say you're right.
  • Bouncing Boy
If you're referring to the Hamlet scene in the first movie, that was supposed to be fake blood set up to spray out. Uncle Fester helped them set it up.
  • FiersFall
I'm sorry, Lindsay but I have learned never to trust you when you say a video is coming next week.
