    Thoughts for little details:

When you're describing the school and class schedule make it painfully obvious that it has been at least twenty years since the author was actually in high school. Have the students covering things that are either too elementary or too advanced for the grade they're in. Make it clear that the author is just spouting out bits and pieces that she remembers from science class, like Meyer does with mitosis and chromosomes.

Slip in some reference to the Persian or Raul's brother, something from the book that wasn't in the musical, and make it clear that the author doesn't know what she's talking about.

Have Lego Brick sing something from Love Never Dies.
  • Pelion09  - Honestly...
Pretty fucking boring. Talking about a book you haven't finished yet. You criticize entertainment yet you can't make anything entertaining.
  • MaskedGuy
I'm pretty sure that this is status update and not supposed to be funny video for laughing :p So if you want to complain on it not being "entertaining" at least do that on videos that are meant to be funny.
  • Pelion09
I came into this not knowing anything about the project, and I left not knowing anything about it. Other than it's a parody of 50 shades.
  • Bloodrealm
Well, it is the tenth video.
  • HanSK

actually, I think this is pretty entertaining

and when I think it, it MUST be true

when's the last time -you- got a laugh from a joke you made about a movie? From your mother doesn't count. See, that's called "until you can make me laugh more often than Team Chick, Go fuck yourself." 'Kay?

besides, i dont' think these were meant to be jokey in the NC-review kind of way. more a Sneak Peak or Behind the Scenes Exclusive; at least that's been my impression. i mean let's face it: with the bar set where it is, they could very well get published despite their best efforts not to(you guys are gonna go through with it if they bite, rite? sorry if you already covered this).
  • Pelion09
Were you responding to me? Comments on this site suck. If you were, then I didn't take it the wrong. I took it as a grammar murdering rant from an autistic fan. If you weren't... that doesn't change anything you're still definitely autistic.
  • ladydiskette
    avatar
Dude, that was way out of line.
  • Bloodrealm
Are you using autistic as an insult? Because, seriously, don't.
  • leikaitsndead
    avatar
    meh...yea pretty fucking boring
  • ladydiskette  - re: leikaitsndead

It may be boring to you, but those of us who like to write find this enlightening and extremely helpful in what constitutes a bad piece of literature and a good one. So those who do get their work publish can take solace in the fact that it will have some merit in human society more than it being a retarded excuse for abstinence porn like many Supernatural Romances are becoming.

If you find this boring and not gaining some well-rounded critique out of it, than maybe you shouldn't be watching this video or any videos that talk about intellectual things for that matter.

When you selected Chtulu as your theme I knew this was gonna suuuuck, but in a good a way, the way it was inteded to be, shallow young-adult-paranormal craze, bandwagoning now it seems it's just "Let's make a bad book just for the sake of making a bad book" so it's either going to be the next 50 Shades of Grey or the literary version of Movie 43
  • DangerousLoki
This is how I feel about it. That it went from this concept of making a book that was supposed to exploit and mock the tropes and flaws of the genre but has quickly become just making a horrible book. Whether you inteded to make crud or not, at the end of the day you're still making crud.
  • Redrally  - :D
Yay! You took my pen name suggestion. Even if slightly altered but I now feel like I've contributed to this silly project.

Regarding publishers, it turns out certain publishers specialise in this genre of fantasy romance. The big one in the UK is Mills & Boon, dunno what equivalent you have in the US?

Oooh, just thought of something to flesh out that Anaprotestant thing.

There's this part of Jewish culture that the firstborn of the family belongs to God and is traditionally 'bought back' with a sacrifice of two turtledoves/pidgeons when the baby is a few months old.

Maybe Anaprotestants have an adaptation of the custom, in that the first male child is God's, and is traditionally expected to join the Clergy, so the second male child is given the same name, because the first one didn't count, and they have the traditional 'eldest son' rights.

(No idea whether that's actually believable, but you seem to have got stuck with a particularly loopy brand of Christianity over in the US, so....)
  • Galaxia
    avatar
I am so going to recommend the hell out of this baby to all my friends and see who falls for it. I think I know a couple of friends who came out of the Twilight craze who MIGHT just buy it. (In both meanings of the word.) ;)

I'm actually looking forward to this book. I'll have to get myself a copy to laugh at, as well as in support of your guys' efforts. :D

The book's title! I've got your title, ladies! "Skin Deep" It's so deep, 'cause it's both how he's litterally a eldritch abomination in human skin and how he has seeeeeeeeeecrets :U

Sarah gingerly held the narrow blade and delicately placed it on her arm. She applied pressure and a bead of blood appeared. She shaped a curved edge and a jagged line and pressed her arm against the white wall. The red broken heart was the only bright spot on the stark wall, like he was the only bright spot in her stark life. She quietly padded out of the room.
He stood in the deserted room, staring at the dripping, broken heart. He piked up the bloodied knife and carved the other half of the heart. He pressed it against the wall. But he was a bloodless creature and left no mark. Like he should make no mark on her life. Like he should not make her mark herself. He rested his forehead against the cold, miserable wall. Cold like his black, icy soul whithered from lack of use. He stood there in woe until the stars faded and the first streaks of pale dawn appeared on the horizon.

in these YA stories they let the readers know how old to visualize them by starting the numbers with a relatable teen number.

    15 days old

    18 million years old

    17,000 years

check out Monster High (paranormal bratz dolls) for a great example of this trope.
  • carikittygeek  - So excited.
This is going to be brilliant, guys. Ignore the negative comments, I honestly don't understand what they're talking about or why they're so desperate to bring you down. For the first time ever, I'm gonna genuinely use the rapper excuse and assume that they're jealous.

Maybe you could have Lego Brick loving the Raoul character before she meets Sexy Cthulhu, after she falls in love with him, she begins to fancy the Phantom instead for SYMBOLISM! Or alternatively how she never understood why everybody loves Raoul when clearly the Phantom is the one Christine should be in love with. After all, he sings to her, buys her pretty things and he loves her. Nevermind all the murders he commits or anything silly like that.

I like Dacilriel's suggestion about using LND. If Lego Brick gets done and dirty with Sexy Cthulhu, she could hear 'Beneath A Moonless Sky' inside her mind. Even better, make Cthulhu transmit the song into her mind. Lego Brick: He loves the same musicals as I do, he's so sensitive and romantic!
  • Dreamcast
Maybe it would be funny if Sarah is a Christian reform protestant but pronounces her name the Hebrew/Israeli way (SAH-RAH like salsa, not Sa-ra like chair-a). Maybe she spells it with two 'r's or two 'h's or something stupid. This fits into how girls in these books always have weird names and how they feel as if nobody notices them (her classmates, teachers, even her father, they all always mispronounce her name, only her alien love interest pronounces it right on the first try).

I don't get what your trying to prove with this experiment. So what, teens today are captivated with fantasy. They were captivated with fantasy 100 years ago. I agree that some of the tripe coming out is bad, but -again- so what? In 1600 France they were printing crap for the masses which was full of sex and stupid romance.

    >.> thank you for not going with Gatsby its going to get raped enough by Hollywood soon.
  • Volbla
    avatar
They're trying to prove something? I thought it was a fun kind of experiment. Create something intentionally horrible because that will still have a not too shabby chance of selling.

And this doesn't have much to do with fantasy per se. This is a jab at paranormal romance novels because they suck, at least the popular ones.

Plus sexy Cthulu sounds awesome. Why would you not want this realized?
  • Bloodrealm
Well, they're doing it for fun, but they're also trying to see if they can capture that super, magical, chocolately formula that makes things like Twilight and all its clones sell.
  • Captain Siberia
Opus means butt, right? Like "That girl's got a nice opus," or "Mr. Holland has a fat opus."

Why does she have 5 kids? Is that typical of protagonists in the actual genre?

I like the fanart behind you guys. Is there a page for it?
  • Bloodrealm
I think they were saying that their pseudonym identity has 5 kids, not the protagonist.
  • InOzWeTrust  - Dayton Really?
Apparently you are unfamiliar with the assertion that Dayton & Youngstown are regarded in Ohio as a wretched hive of scum and hoebags.

No repressed people could possibly exist in Dayton to create any semblance of fanfiction or restraint required for this kind of book.

  • Sercil
This sounds really fun. Can't wait to read it.

Although I'm still not sure how exactly you want to pull it off as a "serious" book by a "serious" writer. Won't it be kind of obvious for publishers and readers that you made it deliberately bad? Won't this be a problem?
  • Bloodrealm
They're not directly trying to make it bad. They're trying to capture the formula that makes crap like this sell. Although I suppose that does mean they're indirectly trying to make it bad...

Have you given some thought to cover art at all? Probably a bit down the line, of course, but I was wondering all the same.
