This was an awesome episode, Z! Thanks also for mentioning our show. That made my day.
Here's a few more cheap and affordable games that people may enjoy:
Noitu Love - $0
Noitu Love 2 - $10
These games are like hybrids of Mega Man, Contra, and Gunstar Heroes. Awesome games! If you like the first one, support the dev by buying the 2nd one!Scarygirl - $0
Beautiful platform flash game
For masochists out there, you can try the unbelievably hard platformer I Wanna Be The Guy for a hefty price of $0

A good list, I just wish you had expanded it to a top 10. A good free game that is for all the PS3 owners is Ragdoll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic. It is a multiplayer fighting game with a Super Smash Bros. style of fighting, except with different modes and moves. It also has a lot of challenges with leaderboards that you can try and conquer. Great game, definitely worth the $0. It would probably be worth $10, but Sprint did something or other and made it free. Hooray for weird ways of advertising!! :3

I normally like your videos, but I really think you didn't do much research. You suggest a $5 dollar glorified flash game (the clown game) yet you fail to mention how gog.com offers awesome games such as Fallout 1 and 2 for as low as 5.99 (for .99 cents more than that clown game, you can get one of the most classic games in gaming history) - and those are just two titles from gog.com - they have many. Also steampowered.com has a lot of great cheap titles.
IMO Cave Story is really the only worthwhile game you have worth mentioning on this list.

And Yet It Moves looks awesome, and i'd never seen it before. reminds me of Braid, which was a genius game. i'll definitely be buying that some time.
as for free games you can find online, i'm very fond of Eversion, which i highly recommend everyone play up to at least the fourth level. there's also the classic Dismount games where you see how badly you can damage your little ragdoll. but my favorite of all time is Bridge Builder, which is exactly what it says on the tin and freaking awesome. enjoy!

Seconded on Eversion, but unfortunately it has little replay value. Of other free games, I like Iji, a surprisingly dark sidescrolling action/adventure game with a very interesting plot, which even allows you to play as a pacifist!
One other is Warning Forever, a bullet hell shoot-em-up with a boss that constantly evolves and adapts to your playstyle.
And yes, One Must Fall 2097 is still one of the best beat-em-ups for the PC. Decent graphics for the time, kickass music, good game machanics, varied fighters and last but not least, very visceral sound effects.

There are some suggestions I'd like to make for some cheap or free games that you may be able to use for a future episode.
The first game I would suggest is Plants vs. Zombies by PopCap. You can buy the game on Steam for only ten dollars, and it is worth every penny. There is surprisingly a lot to do with this game, and it is one of the funniest games I have ever played. Good luck not getting addicted to this thing for days. PopCap has proven once again to be the makers of the video game equivalent of cocaine, nicotine, or whatever substance you want to substitute for addictive stuff.
The other game I'd like to suggest is I Wanna Be The Guy. Now I know a bunch of people will skewer me for this suggestion, but hear me out. If you manage not to be completely frustrated by the first screen, the game really can be enjoyable. Some of the traps are very clever, and every save point feels like a huge achievement. If you can beat the game, you have such huge bragging rights. Not only that, but it pays homage to so many other games from our childhoods. Everybody who thinks they are great gamers have to try this gauntlet at least once in their lives. (For the record, I have become The Guy multiple times on the Very Hard difficulty setting.)

06.09.2009 - 00:22 | Larty

There's something of a mistake in this episode: we certainly aren't "beating" the recession by buying less stuff and saving money. Spending less actually feeds the recession and makes it worse. The recession can be beat by spending money normally (or more than normally) and buying homeland-made products and services.
One great freeware game I have been playing recently is One Must Fall 2097. It's a DOS game, so you probably need the DOSBox-emulator to play it. OMF2097 is an old fighting game for the PC where you fight with giant robots in a futuristic setting. It has some really cool fighters and an awesome tournament mode. Trying to fiddle with the Dos emulator to get the game to work takes some time, but it's definitely worth it!

Sorry but I disagree with you Larty.
Those that have money to spend go ahead and do so. But people like me have to choose between a meal and a game. It's not like we're saving money we have or something. We have no money to spare.
And I could have sworn she never said anything about having any money to make the choice of spending or not in the first place.
The whole point of a recession is that most people have no money to spend. The few that do, but don't wish to compromise their rare, cushy and comfortable lifestyle, firing people or moving their business out of the country, those are the ones causing the recession to worsen. :/ People like us really have no choice but to choose free or cheap entertainment.

Yeah Zulk is right, I have that trackmania game, it's really fun. Also if you're into FPS games like Quake, check out http://www.quakelive.com
It's a free, intense multiplayer Quake game you can play in your internet browser.
Quite good, Madam of games.
