Maybe the most addictive game of all time right there. I remember when I was a kid, playing the game in whatever pizza parlor we decided to play in that day, that we would name all the cities in the game. New York would always be the last one to fall, because we'd keep a jealous watch over it, and we'd just let Boston go up in flames right away ;)

great review
Your review reminds me of cartoons today from cartoons when I was a kid. Shows were not scared to put guns in a show, and kill off some characters in the past. Now if you turn on cartoonnetwork all the action shows are dumbed down. Missile command has that effect because the game itself felt cold. And in a dark room and you hear that bomb you will always feel a little disturbed. Great job and keep them coming.

Games about nuclear warfare are always a bit scary, when I was a kid there was a game called "nuclear war" for the amiga 500. It was like a "proto civilization" where you had to survive against five other countries; and in the end you always loose.Whatever you do. It was great.
ps: You also have a fan in france ! (that's me) keep the good work "petite mademoiselle joueuse" (and the rest of the pbc team).

Your cooless quotient would have went up exponetially if I still liked Spider-Man. [Thanks again, Quesada!] Anyway, I empathize with you about MC and other such games that you were destined to lose no matter how good you played. Guess that's one advantage of modern games that you can actually 'beat' like Resident Evil or Halo. In addition, I liked Food Fight a lot and I'm all for females gaming or doing anything else geeky for that matter. Play on, LMG! B)

Well, back in the 80s, the topic of nuclear death was rather big and games like MC showed you that a Nuclear War was a futile and useless war, because you can not win, no matter what you do, you get wiped out.
"DEFCON Everybody dies" is actually a very nice modern remake of MC, including the idea of not only defending yourself, but also starting the nuke war. Still, in the end, you can not win, because you get always wiped out. The only way to "win" is to have killed more people in the end and we are talking about millions of deaths inflicted by you.
Its really scary and I never felt like a "winner" because I just wiped out whole nations with a press of a button.

Yes, Atreyu, that's a VCS game--but remember that the 7800 was the first backwards-compatible console.
I remember playing Missile Command for long hours too. I remember reading later that it was designed to be a statement against nuclear war by its programmer. Pretty savvy--and subtle.
By the way, awesome that you have Lain Iwakura plushie! I have one too! You're way past cool, LMG!

I like how the whole end of the world thing was used so much for games back in the day, sure scaring kids half to death would do NOTHING wrong with their imagination.
