This completely blew me away. A high quality video, with an attitude similar to a actual television show. The way she narrated here countdown with the placement of a sort of skit was very excellent.

I consider myself a hardcore gamer with a bit of import. I own a good amount of games, mostly on Nintendo systems, and own 7 import games: both Ouendans, Gyakuten Saiban 2 (which has Justice For All in English built in) and 4 Bit-Generation titles for GBA. Oh, and Elite Beat Agents is awesome, screw what that other guy said.

this is indeed a very very good video. first game i ever played was mario, the contra came, duck hunt and even track field. They all had a magic and I would never stop playing them even if i finished them! but now, i have about 24 gamecube games and 3 wii games (Just started to tranceed give me time!). I can realy say that 20 of those 24 gamecube games are main party games, meaning nintendo... all based on expectations for these games. and the only third party companies i buy from are capcom and sega. which you could say is also based on expectations. yeah yeah, some times gradius or R-type comes by and i buy those but they are based of franchise taste. Ever since contra mario and all these other NES clasics that i played, i have never ever picked up anything from the ground up!

Its amazing how much this video made me think!
Just Frigg'en awsome!

I was really impressed by that. Your play on High Fidelity was spot on. Also, your right, people have generally lost the point the games aren't just supposed to be the most engrossing, they're supposed to be fun. It's great to see a female gamer putting her views up. I mean we have ultranecko who's ok, but, one that's been done well is hard to find. I can't wait to see your next post.

Glad to see the Little Miss Gamer video's here. This was actually a great documentary on gaming and it made me think about how i gladly gread from a casual gamer into a hardcore gamer into a role-playing hardcore hybrid.

I hope the other LMG video's will be on the site soon. It would make for a great addition to the site and nice competition for the rest of the reviewers already here.

written by AmazingTele , October 21, 2008
This was a really cute video, and did a great job labeling all the various gamers although many people (such as myself) find themselves in multiple categories. Really cool you gave the table top gamers a nod!

Also...

"Sometimes the best experience can be going into a store, randomly picking something out, and realizing you come upon something truly unique."

This line was awesome, in a way you can apply this to everything in life, but it actually happened to me recently! I saw a game called Bad Mojo for PC (came out in 1996) at a garage sale completely new for $1, and it turned out to be one of the funniest game's I've played in awhile.

All I know is the negative experiences in my life certainly had a part in shaping me today. Like when my equipment was stolen in an online game, I became more honest and loyal both in and out of the gaming world. Or when constantly prodded by my peers on an intelligent forum for my poor language skills, I simply improved. Of course another person might have acted differently to these circumstances.

Oh and one more thing, do people even really play games anymore? It seems like a player's sole objective from the moment they start the game, is to get to the finish. When did completion become the only reward?

Good review of gamers. I have to agree with your conclusions. People should play games because they are fun and not overanalyze them. If you like some games, play them and don't let people dictate to you what's good or not. Find out for yourself. I've played a ton of games and I've seen what works and what doesn't. Not sure where I fall on the list but maybe it's 1 or 2. I'm not crazy competitive when I play because I play to have fun.

I want my title back
written by cheapcameraguy , October 21, 2008
The role-playing community must reclaim the title of gamer, restoring our rightful place in society; instead of being forced to practice our art in dark basements, and back rooms of game shops….wait haven’t we always done that….I don’t care I want the title of gamer back damn it.

And if I could go back in time, I would go back to when the original Nintendo came out and give myself a copy of super Mario brothers 3.

Why cant gamers just be gamers?
written by coron , October 21, 2008
Well, I have to say this is my least favorite LMG video. Everyone is not perfect, but these guys Z showed were properly really overdone in the character they play. Why is it gamers have to be a casual, pro, retro or import? Can't we just be gamers for Christ sake? I find it annoying that we either have to be casual or Pro, and that is why I consider myself a split between Hardcore and casual, and a split between Retro and Newly made games. Why isn't it just called gamers?

I 110% agree with you. People are way too serious about video games and movies nowadays. Anything that's not a Dark Knight or a Grand Theft Auto is considered to be horrible, and its a shame. Media like video games and movies are only meant to be entertainment. In fact, some of my favorite video games have been gems that I've seen in the store, become interested in, and end up listlessly trying to beat because they are so awesome!

You have a point. This site may not be solely about gaming, like ScrewAttack, but majority of the popular, non-NC videos here are about video games. It shows too. Right under the VIDEOS tab, 5 of 10 spaces are occupied by game reviewers, you being one of them. I know some of those guys do other things, like movie reviews, but many of them got their title by game reviews.

YES! You are saying what I have been saying forever. As a female gamer, who also works in a retro gaming store, I commend you. I have run into a LOT of these types of gamers, and being a girl, I have been hit on by these guys. It truly is terrible. I would say though that I'm a mix of all those people and the mixes are probably the best. They keep their minds open to everything. I guess i'm a mix of hardcore (Depending on the game) retro, and import. I really import games that we as Americans have torn apart, which is usually the older games, or games that never made it here to America at all. These are mostly Saturn and Dreamcast games.

I really try not to dissect a game to death like others out there. I'm only picky on series that I really love.

OH... and that game looks awesome. I will have to look for it.

This was fun! I like you, and look forward to more videos from you!
Let's see ... do i even fit among those categories? I'm a semi-casual, semi-pro, semi-retro, mutt of some sort. I love games that are really good, that feel good, have amazing scores, and sometimes amazing graphics (as long as those weren't the only real focus *cough final fantasy x cough*), or down and dirty offroad racing, or demolition derbies, elaborate RPGs, or sandbox criminal/destruction games. I love the parodies as well (Psychonauts, The Bard's Tale, Destroy All Humans!), Star Wars Flight Simulators, Mega Man 2, Super Metroid (and the Primes), Link to the Past, Shadow of the Colossus ... but i'm not obsessed with finding out all the newest games or everything to do with the production of them, and i often wait up to 5-10 years before buying a "new" console, etc...
But good video, it's very nice, and awesome to know of a girl gamer who isn't just a casual gamer. And that Kiwi game did look fun! And damn, i wish we had a game store like that around here ...

Oh, yes ... and i'm also one of those gamers who could care less if i get 100% in a game, or if the game is annoyingly difficult, only geniuses can beat. If i'm constantly angry at a game for thwarting my every effort to go forward, that's not fun. There's no point to playing a game (something you're supposed to do for enjoyment) if you're just going to get more stressed than the job you're trying to unwind from!
Enjoy the game, enjoy the experience - if cheating is the only way to get forward into the story (after trying all you can, and just being exhausted), then i have no problem with that. I don't play to be the best. I play to have fun!

I like the format, like it was high fidelity. i do have to agree, those "pro gamer" types are annoying. They are usually people who think they are awesome because they play Gaylo 3 all day online. They're most of the time not even enjoying it. I get an online game for one reason, re playability. Sure there are not like a hundred maps. But, they're always new people every match, and new types of a strategies that have to be used to make it through a match. Online playability makes or breaks a game buying decision for me. I bought Saints Row 2, because everyone knew it would own GTA4, and It had an online Co-op mode that was actually well executed. I suggest to anyone who doesn't like GTA4, to trade it in and get saints row 2. The game is just awesome.

Good episode of LMG. I'm glad you put it here in this site, because I haven't browsed PBC's latest videos in a while.

Great tribute to High Fidelity. I really enjoyed that. Very well done indeed. I clicked on something that I thought was going to be a game review and came across a story with a plot. Five Stars.

Great work!

I like the one on one monologue narrative. It speaks to anyone who spends time playing video games and includes some comic relief that is inserted well in the story. I like the analogy of dating different types of people and different types of gamers.

Holy shit, this was a GOOD video o_o

No, really, it was really great!
I agree to your point... Playing a game no one else ever heard of, really helps you enjoying it by your own, without any pre-concept.

Mike Meyers, in the video.
written by gasto5 , October 26, 2008
Make Meyers appeared in the credits, great.

I couldn't agree more, if you dissect a game down to its source code, the magic is gone, much like knowing how a magic trick works before seeing it get done by an illusionist.

Ignorance is a bliss.

An excellent video
written by Bagu , October 27, 2008
I think it's the genre segregation that is quite possibly ruining video games as we know it. Some people will outright refuse to play a game just because it's considered casual, or hardcore. No matter how much fun it may be. Isn't that what gaming is about, the fun? And probably a bit of escapism, too. But mostly it's for fun.
I've stopped labeling games into genres, and I've had a blast. I suggest those of you out there who take the time to read the comments like I do, to give a game a try that you would not have considered playing. You never know, you might find yourself having fun.

Also, I completely agree. If you disect a game down to it's core, you'll see that it's not fun at all.

And flame me if you will, however, this is constructive criticism.

However, maybe you were too professional with it? Or was I missing something? I do tend to do that.

Either way, I enjoyed the video all in all. However, RPG-ers probably need their own category as well! I mean...that's all I really play, save the occasional fun on Halo or the Hack-and-slash of Devil May Cry.

Very nice video and I hope to see more!

I love the video ^^
My b-f is number 3. >.> I always leave the room when he is playing. I gues thats the only reason I lasted with him for 3 years now. We rarely play anything together it's just to anoying. Our style of playing games is diffrent and same goes with taste so we keep that thing separated.

Just one More Gamer
written by Licantro , November 24, 2008
I must say, this is probably one of the the best produced episode in the site. Quality wise, incredible and educational and just funny. An amazing work and it deserves all applauds.

My two cents over this matters are the "MMO Gamers" (Massive Multiplayer Online Gamers), who basically play WOW or any other MMO for looong periods of time (a year or more). They never get involved into any other game for so much and they put this "second life" as a matter of priority, which is really a big deal when in some extreme cases affects theirs personal lives.

That was great! Although I've never try to shoehorn myself into one of those stereotypes, I do chuckle at people who talk up Elite Beat Agents while I'm sitting on Ouendan! smilies/cheesy.gif. Honestly, I'd rather play something that I don't understand if the alternative is Avril Lavigne. I wouldn't make fun of them though, it's still a great game.

I'm not a big fan of her game reviews, but I love videos like this. They're like Gamer Philosophy or Game Theory. They make me think about my behavior and habits as a gamer, as well as the behavior of others. It's a public service, really smilies/smiley.gif

Excellent Video
written by TheManWithoutFear , January 05, 2009
I was randomly scrolling the site and came across this. It's true, funny, insightful and also endearing the way it advocates buying and playing for fun rather than this insane concept of trying to take computer games seriously. I have many a Marvel game that's not good on a critical level, but is incredibly fun to play.
