I too have always loved the "Oh, the things I've missed!" bit, but no references to Ivan Ooze being Belloq? He unleashed the wrath of God!

I also always loved the back and forth with the construction workers and the.... bullies. "Hey, Dave! Come have a look at this!" "Go on, Dave."

Ah, what a wonderful crappy movie.

God bless my parents for putting up with this shit so I could retain some idea of happiness as a child.

Even as a little kid though, that fight between the Rangers and Ooze was bull. It was as anticlimactic as the fight between Shredder and Splinter in the Ninja Turtles movie. Or at least comes close. The fights in the show were better, which is NOT a sentence I say often.

But, my parents were supportive and happy to cater to my first childhood fandom. Probably has to do with them being geeks themselves. When I look back on it, they picked a bizzare spectrum for the Rangers. Red, blue, yellow... OK, the basic colors, good deal. Pink 'cos she's a girl, and... black? Oh right, because he's black (that was my five-year-old logic before I learned how racist I was).
Then they meet a kick-ass new ranger whose green, but you feel like he's better than the "normal rangers" 'cos he has a mantle and a flute that summons a fuckin' plesiosaur Zord. Then he gets upgraded one day from green to white. Now, this all made sense to me as a small child but now that I look back on it...

Red, blue, yellow: gotcha. Pink and black... I guess I can give you pink, but black? The most evil and disheartening of colors? Why is the green ranger a later addition, why isn't green one of the beginning colors? Black should be a special color like white. And then we get a green ranger, and he becomes white! So now we have the three primaries, pink, white, and black. WHY NO GREEN?! I can understand passing up purple and orange, but that rainbow where they turn into colored energy and teleport just looks wrong.

As a kid who had actually seen the original sentai show Saban ripped off to make power ranger, I can still remember my excitement when I saw the teaser trailers for the Power Rangers TV show. I'm with the critic.... I was never a Power Ranger kid. I was just a little too old to enjoy it when they first hit the scene. Looking back on it now, I'm glad I developed a sense of standards and taste. It was a horrible show, and movie sucked just as much. Theme song is still annoyingly catchy though.

I'm still hugely a fan of Power Rangers. The whole spandexy epileptic cheesyness is a big play into the fandom. The fact that it's so terrible is what makes it entertaining... though I think it may be Super Sentai's fault that I even still watch it. You see, the Japanese version offers actual plot and character development... in other words, it's actually good.

Oh God, they were the american Pokemon befor Pokemon was there. Seriously, Sadly as a kid, I dodn't know the channel for the ninja turtles, and for some twisted reason, never bothered to look, so I had this. I don't know what's with Japanese animation and kids. Hell, I was young enough to be fucking sucked in to the not so popular Yu Gay Oh phase. The characters there moved as much as the ones from Phoenix Wright. Haven't you noticed all the kids' suits colors are matched by race? Come on, the Asian is yellow, the black guy was black, the irish guy is green, Oh crap, he mentioned it.
I must mention, that guy whas an uncanny resemblence to darth sideous.

Okay, I admit it, I was..no, still am a Power Rangers Fan.
I watched them mostly instead of Transformers or GI Joe or others that the NC used to watch.
But, I digress...
The point is, I actually LIKED the original movie, but maybe that was because I was a die-hard fan of the series. But I can see what you meant with the flaws...nort just with the movie but with the series as well. Is it me or are the mistakes more noticeable in the movie then in the series?
Anyway, I enjoyed your review NC of the Power Rangers as a whole, though it was mostly focused on the movie. Then again, if it wasn't we would not have those great moments like when you over-dramatically was happy with the "re-birth" of Zordon and the whole "Frog/Kissing is my power" thing.
And of course they hit him in the groin! And of course a kid can operate a fire hose on a crane! I think his dad is a fire fighter or something.And of course he can...no, wait, how the heck did he operate that monorail??? Anyway, I think people need to know that the kid did not operate the crane himself, he had help from Bulk and Skull. BUT THAT STILL DOES NOT MAKE SENSE!!! Since when were Bulk and Skull able to operate machinery???
In any case, it may be sappy and the CGI is crap, but I like this movie better then the sequel (Power Rangers Turbo: The Movie) because it still had the dumb humour that I loved growing up with.

I don't why, but for some reason I never liked it. The only reason i even saw the movie, was because i was invited to go see it with my friends. Now that I look at it now, I can see why I didn't like that show back then, and even less today. I always wondered if the producers made sunny in space on purpose, or they just were too lazy to even care to fix that?
