The clown from "It" did it for me... And still does. For fuck sake, I watched the god damn movie when I was 5 years old! My 10 years older brother had rented it and I thought "Hey! A movie with a clown in it, how funny!" And boy was I wrong...

This was the time before I had learned english and could not I read the subtitles either, so I had no idea what was going on. "Hey look the clown." *Screams, blood and gore.* "It's ok, It's ok, It's ok, It's just a clown, it's ok, it's ok..."

Pennywise still scares the living shit out of me. My brother who rented it thought that it was funnier to watch my reactions than watching the movie itself. I might be scarred for life, but I still laugh about it. Ha Ha Ha!

Number four is Large Marge? Everybody who's mentioned "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" always says that that scene scared the crap out of them. Frankly, I thought it was the most hilarious thing I'd ever seen when I was a kid. The clowns dream was easily much more scary than Large Marge.

I also have to give you props for Judge Doom. Man, when I was a kid, I could barely watch the screen after Judge Doom had transformed into his more toony form. Hell, I never expected it, which made it even more awesomely terrifying!

Among those are some scary moments indeed, and your humour is great. Me and my friends have seen your videos multiple times now, and every time we can't stop laughing.

Though I don't think number 1 is actually the scariest. Number 2 definately is.

I haven't seen all of these, but yeah that tunnel in Willy Wonka? OMG. I second the commenter who listed the Wheelies from Return to Oz and The Giant Mouse of Minsk, I still find that stuff hard to watch even as an adult. The scariest thing I remember though is from Return of the Jedi where you finally see Darth Vader unmasked. It took me years to finally see the end of that scene, because I was too scared of what Darth Vader might look like. Felt pretty silly when I finally saw it and saw he was just a dude with wrinkly yellow skin. Yeah.

Great review!

Whoa, didn't see that Care Bears one coming! What the hell?! And strangely enough, I don't remember much about that tunnel scene from Willy Wonka, even though my family watched that movie all the time when I was little. Also, I don't agree with the #1 pick. The Banshee should be further down the list.

What about the sister of the villain in Superman 3, who is forced to become a robot at the end !
Now THAT sequence is scary !

With the metalic eyes and all that...

By the way, will you do a review of Superman 3 and 4 ? That would be great coz there's a lot of things to say... =)

This is definitely my favorite of the Top 11 Series thusfar...

Willy Wonka scene shoulda gotten number 1. Jesus Christ, I remember it occuring in the movie but I have no recollection of it being like that. Everyone refers to it as the "Acid Tunnel", but I hardly think that does it Justice. It's moreso terrifying than it is drug induced. Definitely the funniest of the bunch too.

Most of em you nailed too... I didn't see poltergeist till I was in my teens, and I never saw banshee or carebears, but the rest of that stuff was definitely quite terrifying.

Great call on Judge Doom.

My candidates:

Gooey Gus from "Attack of the Slime Monster" (Ghostwriter)
I don't know why the heck this wrinkly purple midget is so scary, but when someone makes a motivational poster about it, that's got to be damn freaky.

The donkey transforming scene in Pinocchio
That whole movie was filled with horrors! Monstro the whale, Stromboli...but the little boys transforming in to donkeys and being forced into little crates by creepy men with whips is one of the most frightening moments in my childhood.

What are you? five years old? Sandman from spider man 3? the statues head from cloverfield? so the statue was more scary then the monster? I know the monster was not so frightening but it was still scarier then the statue. come on... Davy Jones? OMG violet from Charlie and the chocolate factory? Willy Wonka from epic movie? Voldemort in the first movie was a little scary but thats because i was nine at the time. Chucky on the other hand is scary. more worthy on the list would be Micheal Myers from Halloween, Jason from friday the 13th and Freddy from nightmare on elm street

I would definitely add the Ghost Pirates on the old Garfield Halloween cartoon. Just the music and the way they were drawn when the light of them was entering the cabin... They, AND the old man in the chair were fucking scary!
And the flying Monkeys in Wizard of Oz, and definitely those Wheelers, and the heads of the evil queen in Return to Oz. And the Southern Oracle in The Neverending Story, when their faces started to crumble...

And of course Judge Doom. Strangely the actual demon toon eyes didn't bother me so much, it was the way his fake human eyes just drop to the floor beforehand that had me reeling.

11. Everything about the Wizard of Oz was weird, even the horrible Sci-Fi remakes (Tin Man), so I'm not surprised its on the list. Still a classic, though.
10. This would have been so much higher on my list. I remember having nightmares about Wonka's tunnel of doom. The Johnny Depp remake is (thankfully) toned down...except for the fact that Tim Burton made Johnny Depp like Michael Jackson.
9. I always knew Care Bears were demonic...
8. Never saw the Sleepy Hollow cartoon, but if it's anything like the live-action movie, it must be creepy as heck.
7. Man, what is with Tim Burton making all these scary movies?
6. I recently rewatched the Ghostbuster movies, and I can see what you're talking about, especially with the guy who played Yabbosh or w/e his name was. Man, when will they make a third movie? That would rock!!
5. This would be #1 for me. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang always creeped me out for some reason, but the Candy Man scared me the most.
4. Was never a huge Pee-Wee fan, but given the footage of Large Marge, it seems pretty inconsistent for a playhouse character.
3. Ah, Roger Rabbit; probably the most risque kids film ever created. From Allison Wonderland on the bathroom door, to Jessica's privates exposed, to a baby looking under girls' dresses to Judge Doom. All I know is my kids will never see Roger Rabbit.
2. Wouldn't call Poltergeist a kids movie, but the clown is definitely creepy. Gotta love that movie!
1. Never seen this movie, but to be at #1, it must be pretty good.

Stay scared! smilies/tongue.gif

when I was a kid I saw the pee wee movie. I was at a friend's house and her older brother was watching the movie. thinking it was a boring grown-up movie I watched a bit . that bit was Large Marge, and only that single scene. after she ... pulled the face, I screamed and ran away. and I still remember it like it was yesterday (or the day before). For years and years her face haunted me and for some reason it mixed up with my fear of mirrors to create a milkshake of dread. If I had to enter the bathroom at night, I would hold my hands over my eyes to prevent me from seeing my reflection, fearing it would somehow ... pull that face. When I finally got over it, not too long ago, actually (therapy free, thank you). I asked around in search of this clip, but never found it. Thanks to Nostalgia Critic, I have. Although not as scary as back then, it's still really disturbing. It helps to be able to understand what she's saying, so you know when the god-awful scary shit is coming.

conclusion:
Pee Wee needs some PG

Holy Moly!
written by ElectronicaFan83, August 11, 2008
Great listings of scary moments! I'm surprised over the freeze frame of the Care Bears one! That was creepy!

You should've included the fish in the He-Man 1983 episode "Game Plan" as that used to freak me out as a kid! Those who have seen it will know which character I mean.

But a singing Sean Connery does come close, I have to admit! I guess it's a 007 tradition as Pierce fricking Brosnan supposedly sings in Mamma Mia! Talk about interregation in the movie house!

Here's my list of scary moments not mentioned in the review. 9 listed as I like to go one step before..: -

1. E.T: The title character dying in the Kitchen scene where Dee Wallace Stone first discovers him.
2. Raiders Of The Lost Ark: Just the Angel turning into Death was totally freaky!
3. The Real Ghostbusters: Victor The Happy Ghost was one of my childhood nightmares!
4. Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade: Donavan meets Christopher Lloyd!
5. Superman III: Any scene with Evil Superman, especially when he shouts at Clark in the Junkyard. "Oh yeah? Come on, come on!"
6. He-Man & The Masters Of The Universe: The fish in the episode Game Plan. Mentioned early on.
7. Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope: Luke's foster parents' skeleton remains!
8. Spider-Man: Green Goblin screaming at the camera after fooling Spider-Man into thinking he was a child covered in a blanket during the apartment fire sequence.
9. Cannon Movie Tales - Snow White: Diana Rigg growing old at the end was just eeww! Ain't seen it for years but had to end my listing somehow!

Omg, I remember Large Marge from when I was a little kid. That scene scared the shit out of me. Like you said, I can count the bricks I shat whenever I would watch that movie. I think I had nightmares from that.
And the Darby O'Gill banshee, my mom told me that she was a baby when she saw that (again, before PG-13 and R, plus it was Disney). My aunt and grandma told me that she was traumatized for life because of that scene. My aunt wrote to Disney about it complaining how fucked up it made my mom. Today, they probably would've sued. But it was the '50s.

My Thoughts

Am I the only person commenting here who didn't find #9 scary or creepy at all?...Just asking...

BTW, the Queen's transformation from Snow White still makes me shiver at the thought of it; I'm surprised that it's not in here...

I remember being scared like hell by the end of that episode where you find out the person who took the call from that child was a ghost. Even the freaking lizard was scared to death.

Total truth
written by RaD, September 07, 2008
Damn i couldnt sleep to that headless horseman, i could not even watch at night. After the party he goes into the most dark forest ever and its freaking scary... for a kid. Too bad NC did not put the part when he whistles trying to stay calm but we all knew he was going to meet the evil.
