....I am sensing a pattern that I need to pick up this Bebop, I had my time with DBZ with my dad might take the plunge.
Cold, gotta watch it, I am watching it right now and I have to say I'm STUNNED at every single episode on this anime. THe story, character, action, style and fanservice all crafted very perfectly every episode not to mention it keeps itself very serious when it needs to

08.15.2009 - 02:07 | Nostalgia CynicI agree. Lanipator is a genius by himself, and wouldn't need to copy another genius. Just look at his work in DBZ Abridged.

This review I was a little skeptical about watching, mostly because when I watched ThatDudeInTheSuede's anime reviews (Even though I do hope he comes back soon and I wish him well like everyone else), is that I couldn't really relate to alot of the things he was talking about because I was one of the people who grew up with Toonami/Adult Swim for my anime needs. So I'm very glad that for once, I knew all the animes in your Top 10 ^^
A simple yet very entertaining review! Also, yes. GT was a disgrace down to it's pointlessness and unneeded comedy relief. Some people might think I'm being too harsh, but so be it. It was painful for me to watch.

08.03.2009 - 21:05 | YourHumbleNarratorI was hoping you'd fake us out with Inuyasha at #1 and then give us your real pick... Inuyasha at #1. Then your real self would shoot your evil clone, an epic battle would ensue, and somehow it would all end with Spike curb stomping Inuyasha as Ed gnawed on Kagome's shins.
Inuyasha can rot in hell.

08.03.2009 - 22:19 | SengInuyasha was alright. It wasn't great but it was amusing at times and doesn't deserve that. Definitely doesn't have its place on this list though.

Awesome list, Lani! As someone who grew up with the same shows, I find it quite relatable and I wouldn't begrudge you a single choice.
Hm, if I did my own version of the Toonami/[as] list, I think I might switch out a couple, as I don't think I could make a list without FLCL and Champloo. Maybe throw in some Big O, but that's just me.
Anyway, keep it up Lani, I am greatly enjoying your videos and look forward to whatever you put out next.

Check my top 15 on my blogspot it's on there bear in mind I only made note of their syndicated forms, as I was only exposed to the 4kids version of One Piece you can see why it isn't on here

You do realize that manga and anime are not the same thing right?
That being said, DBZ was much more popular than One Piece simply becuase of 4Kids. They fucked up... Bad... If not for them, One Piece might be on the list. Might.
All in all, it doesn't matter which one has more readers (also, I like to point out that One Piece is ongoing and DBZ is finished), DBZ is still a more popular anime than OP.

Because the Syndicated Anime Version of One Piece was a crime against art. From the censorship, to the voices, to the outright retarded way that 4kids insisted on making a show for teens more friendly for mentally handicapped 4 year olds, you just can't say that the One Piece dub was worth being on a top 10 list like this.
The series got better after 4kids dropped the rights and someone else picked it up, but that happened after everyone had given up on the series and Toonami was just about dead.

08.03.2009 - 21:32 | grungiesDude, you have NOT seen the best episodes of Lupin III.
I'd highly recommend going on piratebay and searching for the season 1 (the Green Coat episodes). Not only do you get an interesting look into Lupin's initial, darker development (which, towards its end, was pretty great in its own right) but you also get the more comedic overhaul directed by Ghibli masters Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. The set-pieces, for a show from 1971, are NUTS.
For the rest of the list, I really only agree with Cowboy Bebop. I liked Trigun well enough, but the rest was rather shallow to me (other than 08th MS team, but I would certainly put Neon Genesis Evangelion far ahead of that). I would probably include Samurai Champloo, FLCL, and Future Boy Conan, and Dragonball Z would be nowhere near my list (nostalgia aside, it was a rather mediocre show).

Sir, go to his blogspot (link under his video), One Piece, (and for any fan of Naruto), Naruto, Pokemon, Death Note, & Fooly Cooly are alllll there in his TOP 15.
And for any one who doesn't like the One Piece 4kids dub, I do suggest checking out the Funimation version. Not that I'm really a fan of One Piece, but it destroys the 4kids version completely.

08.03.2009 - 21:44 | Miss Kitty FantasticoI haven't seen Bebop in years and I still have a massive love for that series and it's soundtrack.
Great list Lani!

I have heard of Cowboy Bebop many times before and I definitely knew what is was but as I grew up I wasn't really into anime, I guess I was pushed away with my older sister's fandom of Sailor Moon back in the 90's and my friends' love of Dragon Ball Z in the early 2000's and especially pulled back by Naruto stuff. I don't hate anime but I never had an interest for it I guess. Sure I have watched a few animes before (Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, and Inuyasha which I only watched because my friends were watching it and it was popular, I had the game and it was popular, and Inuyasha because my sister watched it and I had nothing better to do when she did) and I even went so far to completing Viewtiful Joe the series even though they never actually dubbed the last few episodes but that was it. I only watched Viewtiful Joe because I like the game.
The reasons I have for my watching of very few anime is just that I like what it was based on or had nothing better to do but when Toonami came on screen I was like, yeah later when you bring back Scooby-Doo or Batman.
Now, I'm actually reeling towards to watching anime and it's all thanks to you guys at Team Four Star and That Guy With the Glasses (especially you and Marzgurl). The next thing I'm renting on Netflix?
Cowboy Bebop.

08.04.2009 - 13:47 | dontknowdontcareI'd say I agree with almost everything on this list.
FMA, Kenshin, Cowboy Bebop, Yu Yu Hakusho, all are amazing.
-
08.03.2009 - 21:52 | NerullCool video. I haven't really watched too many of the entries on the list, but the ones I did watch, I enjoyed the hell out of.
I admire your courage in making such a list, anime fanboys are one of the great plagues of the internet, and you'll surely see lots of weeaboos whine about the absence of their favored idol of worship.
-
08.03.2009 - 22:00 | Kurvos... okay, now I officially feel offended. Not by you personally, though. But I have seen about 20-25 "top 10 anime" lists. And NO ONE got One Piece in any place. And that offends me - since it's the only manga/animé that stays close to my heart.
Fine then, I guess I'm a freak...

Well it's probably just that (from what I heard and what I saw) the One Piece 4kids dub that aired on US television kinda sucked and I don't think Nick here watches 4kids every Sunday like I used to with WbKids on Saturday (until they turned it into 4kids 2... Idiots).
If they actually made a decent dub that actually airs on TV in the US, then I'm completely sorry for that post.
-
08.03.2009 - 22:03 | RocnaelYeah, during your countdown, I was actually thinking "If Cowboy Bebop doesn't get the #1 place, something will obviously be wrong".
-
08.03.2009 - 22:07 | Stained SwordWhen you pulled the gun out during number 9 I seriously LOL'd.
Great list, I wouldn't know much about how good the choices were since I watch too few anime, but there were some good names, and I enjoyed it. Good job!

Nice list.
"Case closed" would actually get a PG13 from me. It´s a nice show but there are some scenes I just wouldn´t want younger children to see.
Very good to see "Lupin III" on the list as well. I sometimes feel many people have forgotten about it.
But naturally there is little to challenge the awesomeness of "Cowboy Bebop".
Although I did miss "Samurai Champloo" here. But I´m not sure wether it was aired in the U.S.:?:
All in all, very nice and funny vid!

Ok though I agree with most of your choices, considering I also grew up with Cartoon Network shows, I feel you did miss some really good animes. The first one being Inuyasha, the animemation was good, the plot pulled you in, the english version held it own and the charaters were well defined. Second Salior Moon, now granted this isn't the best and if you see the whole Japanese series version it doesn't hold water, but it is much like Dragon Ball Z in that it got you hooked into anime they're the gateway drugs of anime.
Third Voltron, one of the first anime I had ever watch it actually premired on the USA channel when I was a little girl, now I watch it and it doesn't hold the same excitment, but the plot is still sound so I give it a thumbs up. Last but not least Speed racer, now granted this is a much older anime so the animation dosen't do much and the voice cues are so off it is not funny, but it inspried a generation of the peolpe today who run the anime and conventions we go and see and for that it should be honored. Ok that is all I have to say feel free to comment because I welcome it.
P.S. Please no one mention Nickelodeon's Speed Racer: the next generation the creators will burn in heck for what they did and they know it

Well, actually, Lupin doesn't always win. In fact, he loses way more often, due to some unforseen circumstance or oversight. That's what's so great about it, that even though he's a brilliant criminal, things don't always go his way. Plus, you were watching the SECOND series on Adult Swim.
Disagree about you with the FMA dub. It's overrated. Vic Mignogna is really overhyped and his Edward is not nearly as good as Romi Paku. In fact, the only real talents in that dub are Aaron Dismuke (Al), Christine Auten (Izumi), and Brice Armstrong (Marcoh).
Agree about most of the rest of your opinions, though I would have ranked FMA a little higher and DBZ somewhat lower.

they did syndicate the funimation version of "One Piece" for bout a year before CN compleated killed off their toonami line-up. so thankfully they are comming out with the funi dub box sets. (corse my only complaint with that is that 15 episodes a box set bullshit. ya cant release it in seasons like every other fuckin anime out there?) But yeah, it does deserve a place on the list. the epic story telling alone makes it stand agaisnt time. 12 fuckin years and it is still interesting.
-
08.03.2009 - 22:57 | Agentmage2012I find your lack of death note disturbing.
Other then that, the list seems ok... the camera just needs a little tuning.
