not really a lot of work, half of the work was already done. Most of the action and special effects were already taken care of. Its like having an huge supply of stock footage to cram into your show, heck you can even take footage from unrelated stuff. The only real work is in editing which your going to have to do anyway. unless you just dub everything. This way tho kids were fooled into thinking it was an original creation made for them, when really it was just a hacked up japanese show spliced with cheesy american kids show writing and acting.

I always wanted to be the green ranger(because he always had cool colors!) :D
oh yes, and in spanish(south american), zordon asks for teenagers with "energy"
also, as far as i know, most of the power rangers theme songs are awesome(i think they're getting worst with every new series, though), that should've been on the video =P

Oh, geez, and to think I just bought the MMPR Megazord figure (Available at all your fine retailers for 10.95) out of sheer bloody-minded nostalgia.
This is gonna sound SO nerdy but I still watch the original Japanese sentai. Not because its good, but because the new stuff is just god-awful. SPD was the last good one, seriously.

I dunno about you, but you should check out the latest Power Rangers season. I've LONG outgrown Power Rangers, but this season seems kind of interesting.
By interesting, I mean totally hilarious. And by totally hilarious, I DON'T mean they do it unintentionally.
They've started poking fun of classic Power Ranger traditions and even make fun of the fact that they wear spandex and how they're a Americanized Japanese show.
It's pretty fun.

"They've started poking fun of classic Power Ranger
traditions and even make fun of the fact that they wear spandex and how they're
a Americanized Japanese show."You mean how Power Rangers: RPM actually uses the title of the original sentei series "Engine Sentai Go-Onger" as a mobile travel van called G.O.-O.N.G.E.R.? Which stands for
Ground Outdoor Operational Network General-purpose Explorational Rover.

I admit watching power rangers; up to the Turbo movie. Quite a while ago, somebody told me about the sentai series, though I still have yet to watch any of it.
In hindsight, I loathe PR for knocking my Sonikku off the airwaves and the otaku in me will probably enjoy sentai more.
Good job Marsgurl :3

I think its strange you and your friends didnt know it was a japanese show, the dubbing was so obvious for that evil chick. I was never a fan but all my friends and I knew it was some weird japanese show spliced with american footage. Most of my friends and I never got into it or really got it. For me it never made any sense, if I wanted giant robots and monsters I watched Godzilla, for me the acting and jokes were too stupid even for me as a kid.

What are you talking about RPM has the most story line in it. It's pretty much the best in the last year next to Jungle Fury and the shit storm Operation Overdrive was. It has good writing and they are making their own story and not a loose carbon copy of the japanese series.
RPM = Save the world from the destruction of a villian who has ALREADY pretty much taken over the world
Go-Onger = Some feeble attempt to make kids recycle.

But that same premise of RPM confused the hell out of me. If the robot has already taken over the world then how come he can't just launch his master plan WHICH IS ALREADY PREPARED and just end it. I do give RPM props though, it was better then everything since Dino Thunder (only because of nostalgia).
Also Disney is now trying to re-air Mighty Morphin' but now with random comic book like freeze frames that just ruins the show.

Awesome. I like to go watch the old episodes every once in a while and laugh at how much I used to like it, but it's a nice shot of nostalgia.
Also, we did get a series with a kid that got lucky, got ranger powers and became an adult when he morphed. I can't remember his name, but I think he was in Turbo.

I have actually seen every Power Rangers series except for RPM. It actually was pretty cool that they tried to keep the continuity between the different Ranger entities. They actually gave us a few really cool crossover episodes (like the very cool "Forever Red" episode of Wild Force}.
It might be interesting to see Disney try to do an entirely original Ranger series.
PS. I still wish they would have spun off the Psycho Rangers into their own series.

robotech was a remake of 3 spliced together japanese shows that was sorta successful for its time, and it succeeded in getting americans exposed to japanese animation.
speaking of which is marsgirl gonna talk about that series? Or the even more bizarre dvd release that took the "american show" and threw in nude scenes from the original cartoons. It didn't really make sense because the american version wasn't even a real series, it was spliced together from 3 different cartoons so there can't really be a "directors cut" to something that never existed in the first place.

Man I so remember loving Power Rangers...It was good times. It definitely doesn't hold up in the slightest, but then again, not a whole of stuff from your childhood does I think unless there is something really special or interesting about it lol
Looking at the history of the Power Rangers and how it was cut with older Japanese stuff is pretty wild I think. The Japanese stuff looks alot better I think with less of the stupid highschool crap lol
I still remember the toys I had also. Those were pretty awesome I think with how you could play with them and then build up a big mech guy. Fun.

Thank you marzgurl for making this broad clear analysis of the history of power rangers. I tell this sort of information to people all the time, and they become utterly confused how something so dark and serious could become a campy joked upon american phenomenon.
Actually, to be clear on a child turning into an adult power ranger. We did have something close to the white ranger in Dairanger, which was Justing the 12 year old Blue Turbo ranger from Power Rangers: Turbo.
Also, not only did Saban created the vilain Lord Zedd entirely for their show; but the also made an original american made Power Ranger that didn't originate from a super sentai series. This was the Titanium ranger from Power Rangers: Lightspeed Rescue.
P.S. I hope you are aware that in 2001, Thuy Trang, had a an unexpected death in a car accident. May she rest in Peace.

i watched the orginal and being a kid i never seemed to connect the black ranger wearing the black suit and the yellow ranger wearing the yellow. which is odd cause i grew up around racists most of my life.
i fell away from the rangers before the first movie i mean i liked tommy and i loved the dragon zord but i grew up and rita really gave me a migriane toward the end of the shows.
but i did get back into breifly when they introduced the train mega zord during lost galaxy i think it was. man that zord effin owned.
my son was into it for a while now the tapes are all collecting dust through i think it was space rangers had that really hot asian chick with bat wings she was easier on the eyes and didn't screak so damn much.

You did your homework and you aced your test with flying multicoloured spandex colours!
I was dreading watching this video..just for the sole fact that not many people know about it's japanese origins!
There is no way they could bring Samurai Sentai Shinkenger into the states.. but I've heard horrible rumors. Also for anyone interested in watching these shows please check out http://tv-nihon.com They subtitle Kamen Rider and Super Sentai :)

Yeah Super Sentai is pretty cool. I still love old school Power Rangers, but I think that has to do more with Nostalgia than anything else. The writing in the old series was pretty bad but it improved over time. The current season actually has some decent writing, but unfortunately the Japanese footage doesn't mesh well because the Jap version took a more silly approach while America took a serious approach with their footage. In other words, spotting the Jap footage is very easy this year.

When Power Rangers first came out I hated it. We moved to a new city and all the kids there liked it, I didn't understand why at all.
It's funny now, because I got more into Japanese and Asian culture, but at that time I didn't even know this show was ripped from Japan.
Now I live in Taiwan and I see this kind of stuff all over the place. Good job with the video - I really enjoy seeing the changes between culture. I think Saban was smart about changing the show because if my friends had known it was Japanese they probably wouldn't have gotten into it so much.
