Power Rangers Wild Force
Saturday, 13 November 2010 21:36
Warning, the first six minutes address why this has taken so long and is not meant to be taken as an attack on my very loyal, very dedicated fans... just the ones who tell me that this should be the only thing I focus on and CONTINUALLY ask for the next History of Power Rangers. Skip it, if you wish.
Part 01
Part 02
Part 03

Hey! you do us the privilege of doing this. people need to realize that everything isn't about them , or power rangers.
so, do what you want, and here's to hoping that Dino Thunder and SPD isn't far behind.
as for Wild Force, Love the theme. Love the heroes, love the villains, love forever red!
unlike Time Force, I really thought this season was superior.
-
11.13.2010 - 23:00 | regulus4It really pisses me off when people bitch about not getting things that they get FOR FREE when they want it. Even worse when it's an extra. Love the series.

I agree. Its sad that he had to put that notice up and all cause people should give him a break since I know he said it wasn't on a schedule and I'm pretty sure he said it might be a while till he got this one up.
But like he said it does at least show that people care about seeing his reviews. I never really read the comments Linkara talked about but from his miffed tone, they must not have been very reasonable.

I speak for all the nice patient people out there when saying. Linkara take your time. we love these history of the Power Ranger series and how detailed you get with all the information we the patient ones understand you have AT4W and of course your own life. We also understand that you can't spend every free second of your life doing AT4W or HOTPR. Take your time make them perfect as you always do and when they come up we will be grateful and have fun watching.

So the whole season was really a storybook being read by the White Ranger to her Kindergarten class? What kind of weird-ass Grant Morrison’s Animal Man deconstruction metafiction postmodern bullcrap is this?!
By the way, I'm pretty sure you forgot to talk about the themes of this season, though I may have missed it. In all honesty, I’m stumped, other than the obvious “Pollution=TEH BAD.”

11.14.2010 - 07:28 | JunkWatcherI also missed any elaboration about the horns. You mentioned in part 3 that Toxica removed it, so she can survive the water, but I'm missing the part where the horns were of any importance.
Maybe it's me, but you never mentioned what the horns exactly were other than the indication that they're not human.
Great 3 parter, btw. Totally worth the wait.

Holy Cow Linkara this was awesome. Especially the part where you rip into the Animal/God/Kid thing for taking away the Zords. Because an Environmental Fascist is still a Fascist. Also when I see the morphing w/the cell phone held to their ear and the other extended I imagine them saying "Hold on I gotta take this call"

Mr. -kara, I would first like to personally thank you for getting through Dr. Adler's monologue without going to the obvious places, as if a certain movie didn't even exist before a certain contributor had heard of it. My face was partially in my palm in anticipation, and it never came.
I've watched each of these videos so far, and have enjoyed them all. I had stopped watching around the time Zed was being introduced because, like all 13 year olds, I was just too cool for school, so it's good to learn a little more about the following 90-something seasons and what made them special.
EDIT: I was waiting for the Beetleborgs to show up. The only episode from this season I knew about, and why shouldn't I? It's like 30 generations of awesome; go go non-mechanical moon-horses! (Thick Aussie accent: "Man, that is one ugly zord.")
EDIT 2: Did a piece of the Zen-Aku stuff get cut out? Merric just kinda appeared in Part 2 for me and I had no clue who he was or what he was doing.

Oh god, fuck the ending. I already didn't like Wild Force, but the ending broke it for me. The overly forced message, the (in my opinion) wonky plotline, the stupid princess, the Zenaku arc, the Animus plot, the characters and finally that goddamn ending. I think the only PR series I hate more is RPM.

First of all, I want to thank you for putting so much effort not just into these Power Rangers videos, but everything you do in general. I can see why you would be so upset at the constant demands. Some fans believe that videos get produced instantly, and that no effort goes into them. They forget that the people producing them have lives to attend to outside of their productions, and that is sad.
So again, thanks so much for these great videos and pay no attention to those Douchy McNitpicks who claim to speak on our behalf.
With that explained, I was wondering. Since you mentioned that this is an underrated season, what would you say is the most overrated Power Rangers season? So far you have spoken well of the seasons and none came across as being highly overrated. Just curious.

Ninja storm is better. But we're not talking about that series. Now I don't know what goes through the minds of Bandai, but Hasbro, was helping out I guess it would probably just, had the final battle with the mega ship, & with the motorcycle become the new head of the mega spaceship Zords. the ending of forever red I would actually forgive if the motorcycle was destroyed at the end of the battle, because it never shows up ever again after this.
As for the series of preaching is what really gets onto me, that and also the lack of the Rangers character moments, we learn very little about every Ranger except for Coal. And basically I want to care about these characters, and the things are about the idiots( I forgive the acting, but he still stupid! as I agree with the monster that said" and you have no brain" for some reason I think Carter would have done a lot better job! too bad he only showed up in forever red!)

I have to say I agree with you about the complaining thing, I was extremely patient with the update. I figured that you were having a hard time with well... life... Moving can take a while to settle in.
Fans should know that constant badgering does not help, it hurts. I feel that way sometimes too... granted I won't say what I do online (well in this post) and that if I were to guess I'm 1/100000 of the popularity that Linkara does. But I do feel the same way...
-
Major love to you, Linkara, for doing this project. Really can't thank you enough for doing this. I say the wait is always worth it and those impatient fans need to stuff it.
Cole's backstory kind of reminds of Jan's from Gekiranger (the sentai that inspired Jungle Fury) minus the strange onomatopoetic language he uses and not raised by a tribe out in the wild.
As for the phones being used for their transformation device, for me it depends on the design. I personally love the Shinkenger's shodophone and sushiphone. (Shodo meaning calligraphy, since their transformation involves writing the kanji character of their element.) I wonder if the designs will be kept when Samurai comes out.
I found Boukenger/Operation Overdrive's one to be lame while Dekaranger/SPD and Gekiranger's transformers to be good. Can't say the same about Jungle Fury's because...you'll see when you get to it. And actually, this year's Sentai, Goseiger, I can't really stand their device because CARD GAMES IN MY SENTAI WHAT.
I love it when they do meet ups. Sure in the original sentai, it's not treated as canon. It's often served as a 'what if these two sentai meet up' and sold as direct-to-video. I might have to see 'Forever Red' myself, even though that ending does look disappointing. But there were reasons why this happened, so I'm not holding it against anyone here.

"Link, mah boi, this peace is wut all tru warriors strive for!"
Seriously, glad you found time to work on you side-side-side project. I'm a mega ranger nut from back in the day, much like yourself. I love your commentaries on the subject since we share a great deal of the same views.
Hope the n'er-do-wells keep away after that minilecture lol.

This series is the most epic documetary I've ever seen. You do such a fantastic job on these videos. My thoughts on the fans who hassle you for the next installment are the same as yours. I can only imagine the hard work you put into these videos. So to me,the longer I have to wait for them, the better I know they will be. I would like to pitch an idea to you though. When this series has reached its epic conclusion, maybe you could consider doing a top ten list like best monsters, best villain's,best rangers(individual rangers or entire teams, whichever you'd prefer), or even your top 10 Bulk & Skull moments. So you take your time & keep them coming when they're ready.

Saw this on your Blip page first, but had to at least say it on here....
Thank you very much for doing this series when you have the opportunity. I definitely was curious to the status of this but after all that's been going on for you, I definitely feel ya on those who constantly bombard you, thinking that it's all about them.
Now to the main things to say about this season...
I've hardly had the chance to see this, mainly with the fact that it was hugely in between the transition of Saban to Disney, and when I heard about it, I missed it. After seeing your review about it, it wasn't a total loss it seems. ^^; For the team up with the previous season as usual, it looked like fun, but the icing on the cake had to be the Red Ranger team ups.
Overall, this was totally bland for the season it felt to me, but again, it felt really in between that it didn't really stand out.

But now talking on the season it was decent but the best thing they have were the team-ups. The thing of the stadium was kinda random but hey you know japanese people and soccer team equals weird CGI.
Keep the good work

11.14.2010 - 01:30 | sturmovikWhile I was someone who "waited patiently" as you put it you should be aware that you should be aware that History of the Power Rangers is hands down THE BEST THING YOU DO. This is legitimately valuable work of documentary quality that adds far more value than your weekly AT4W series. Why? Because while commentary and humor are fun and entertaining, HOTPR is an informative historic retrospective that actually provides an alternative for people who have not kept up with the series.
For grown-ups with day jobs this thing you do is better than actually having to waste large parts of their important free time actually watching these shows. You boil down a somewhat hit or miss children's show into a concentrated energy drink of pure awesomeness.
HOTPR, Brad Tries, Familliar Faces, Spoony's Ultima series and Marz Gurl's Translation Terrors not only leave me feeling entertained, but also informed. I may be in the minority here, but if I had a choice between this place fulfilling my need for geeky comedy and my need for geeky documentary I'd pick the latter.
Anybody can rip media content apart and accentuate the negative and go all crazy, but it takes real skill and talent to make good documentary programming. Thanks to you I am slowly learning about the seasons of Power Rangers I didn't give a crap about watching and I had a good time doing it. Please don't consider this sort of work to be ancillary to your mission Stand out from the angry reviewer crowd and make it your mission.
I understand how hard making high quality content such as this must be and I think that most of the naggers were simply worried that you had burnt out or something and decided to let the series drop. If you want to consider something scary, in the decades to come your little HOTPR series will probably become the definitive resource for future generations who want to learn about the Power Rangers. It is not often that one finds serious research that s not only thorough, but accessible. This is your legacy Linkara and I salute you for it.

I don't think the people nagging Linkara were worried he had been burnt out on Power Rangers. I'm guessing they're pretty much the same kind of fanboys who badger Spoony to put out his next Final Fantasy X video without appreciating the numerous other vids that they release in the meantime
It really doesn't need to be said, but great job Linkara. These vids are always a real treat. And it's still Secret Origins Month! (WIN)

I agree with you, but i think hes talking to the people who are actually "BITCHING" at him about it, like every video is "Wheres the new History of Power Rangers?" Im sure if it was going to be, or had been a REALLY long time between HOTHPR episodes, he'd make a short video to reassure, or he'd tell us in a short video that he was ending it. But again, i do agree with you, he did kinda come of as thinking of this as a side project, when infact its probably just as popular as AT4W. But really, we don't know what he trully thinks, cuz when it comes down to it, the fate of the retrospective is up to him and him alone.

It was extremly annoyed because I was not born untill 1997 and my first adiction to power rangers ( the season not the movie) was wild force, i didn't watch the saban series so i didn't really care about this untill wild force came on. I was just worried most of the time, probably like the commenting naggers.

Linkara, this is my absolute favorite series on ThatGuyWithTheGlasses.com , and I already suspected that making this series has to seriously be one of the most difficult things you've undertaken. Thanks for giving us insight into your review process of this 700 episode and counting franchise. I'm as patient a waiter as can be.
As for the season, I really liked your look at Wild Force, and can see why the season's such a mixed but overall great bag. I especially like the Jindrax and Toxica relations, and how they're first and foremost purist orgs that are friends with each other and servants to destroying Earth second. Most of the main villains (aside from master org's replacement) at least had some secret or unique relation, and it's definitely a good continuation of the stronger villains like in Time Force.
Second, it seems no coincidence that you like Merrick and Shayla the least of the Wild Force hero squad. Huh, it seems the old timers got the worst end of the stick with characterization.
I watched both the team ups as part of the old ABC marathon on team ups, and it was definitely a cut above the other seasons before. Now to watch 10 megazords fight and defeat Serpentara, THAT would have been the best megazord battle and possibly the best battle in all of Power Rangers ever. As a joke, if the Quasar Saber could think, I bet it would be a bit exasperated regarding being drawn now twice from the rock. Also, is TJ's ride Lightning Cruiser?
Also, it appears that his year in prison gave Ransik some time to rethink his life, given his new willingness to help humans in saving the past. One other tiny complaint was whether Jen ever decided to stay in the past afterwards (like the old director so wanted), but I suppose with duty and all that, she had to return to the future.
Also, seeing how you've already responded on this page, I have a tiny question. I realize that with Shayla's horrible song there was much regret that Ron Wasserman was gone, but as an overall look, is the Wasserman factor back in effect for this season? The theme song's good as you said, there's some good techno used for the fights, but also glaring silences. So, do you consider the factor still in effect?
Thanks for doing all of this! Take as long as you need.

I totally get message of telling EVERYBODY to have patience. About a year ago (maybe more) I preordered StarCraft 2 (awesome game) & the wait was worth it. The End of the Power Rangers is the best season finale episode, 2nd only to Countdown to Destruction. Years back I lost interest in Power Rangers after Power Rangers Turbo. Ever since I started watching A History of Power Rangers, I became interested in Power Rangers again. I used to watch Power Ranger episodes on Youtube, but since then the episodes have been removed due to "COPYRIGHT". By the way, are there any plans of any TV company putting the Power Ranger seasons on DVD?
-
11.14.2010 - 01:44 | TamLinBoy, I hate to complain given how much work must have gone into this and how I've been waiting for a new installment, but this video has gotten a little out of hand. Altogether it's an hour and a half long!
I realize that it has a lot of ground to cover and that condensing 13 hours to 90 minutes is pretty impressive, but much of this really could have been relayed in half the time or even just skipped over, and some of the clips run pretty long. The whole thing drags and, honestly, becomes somewhat dull in the middle of the second vid. I don't off the top of my head recall what the longest entry prior to this one was, so I don't know if this was really that much longer or just felt like it, but either way it's disheartening.
This video series is supposed to be a comprehensive history, so I understand that Linkara wants to be as in-depth as possible, and I really do credit him for the tremendous effort that must have gone into creating this. In the future though, I think the finished product would be well-served not to push too far past the one hour mark, or to at least make the presentation punchier if it's going to run long. Just my two cents.
-
11.14.2010 - 01:48 | ...As a fan, I really hate to say it, but you came off a bit standoffish here, linky. I was offended by your words and tone, and I've never even commented on your vids before. Also, I read your e-book Angel Armor Yesterday. It was very good, and you all should buy it.

Unless you were one of the 'bitchy' fans harassing him about this series I'm not sure why you should feel offended.
The guy just wants the whiners to ease off and not spoil the fun of this series by making it a chore. If he starts hating the series then guess what? He stops it and we all miss out.
This was a blanket message to any annoying fan to back off a bit, rather then personally messaging everyone who harassed him one by one.
