Everyone did. It is really a shame in my opinion. I thought Dino Thunder was an enjoyable season. I mean, other than Tommy being in it, lets think about it. Yeah, Dino Thunder was the only season to not really have a sixth ranger, but it also has more simlarities with the original than you would think. Like how about the fact that their zords just happen to be a T. Rex, a Pterodactyl and a Trceratops. Or the fact that the T. Rex is red anf the Triceratops is blue. Or how about a ranger that was intially evil but turned good. And the anti-heroic ranger just happens to have a Dragon Zord. And is white. Although, that all makes sense, since I think I read somewhere that Tommy was the one who came up with the Dino Thunder Rangers.

agreed, Dino Thunder was frickin awesome, thank goodness we managed to get through this junk heap of a series.
Time Force to me was the worst of the worst, the character were annoying, the plots were thinner than a crack addict on a diet of speedballs an superglue, and the entire idea of time force has the ability to fuck up the entire power rangers mythology.
Time travel and anything time related is nothing short of a mess...specifically risking that of the Ninja Storm/Dino Thunder era, since the time force rangers go back to 2001.
had they failed (yeah right) would've negated the entire seaons that followed, Wildforce through Mystic Rangers.
one thing to note is that Wes most likely is an ancestor to alex. yeah go figure....how else would they open the morpher that alex lost due to death. but surprise surprise Alex does pull a jean grey. sheesh even in the power rangers universe death is a bitch, and dracula ain't far behind...so to speak. again, killing alex, going back in time doing shit, leaves the ability to again screw time up and let alex be resurrected. assholes.
not to mention, Eric was an asshole...and never changed.

I agree. I always was rather fond of Ransik's look. The metal mask over half his face really worked for me, although I'm not sure why.
Anyway, it's nice to see another episode of the series from you Linkara. I always liked Time Force, so I was really wondering what you thought of it. I wouldn't say it's my favorite season, but, as you said, it's definitely a good one. =)
I also have to say I'm extremely curious of what you'll say about Wild Force. That season seems to have the biggest split in opinion from the Power Rangers fanbase, at least in my eyes. I'm looking forward to it. =D

Please please PLEASE tell me you'll do "History of Doctor Who" next!

just by Ransic traveling back to 2001 he has absolutely fucked the time stream! I dont understand why they didnt try to use this series to finish off the rangers but hey most people dont look at ALL the effects of altering the time stream in any way much less traveling back and changing things, UNLESS this is SUPPOSED to happen in which case Time Force should have known that this would happen and have taken counter measures to prevent it accordingly, but with that said they probably justified that with the same justification for this series taking place that if they altered the time stream the universe might explode or cause, and there was a period of time (IE 2001) where there was no ranger force nor villain attacking the planet... please. If its not the power rangers, the Kamen Riders, Beetle Borgs, UltraMan, or Fricken GODZILLA! there is always something attacking the earth

I LOVED the joke you did with the End of Time part. Coincidentally I just saw that Dr. Who recently! Back on topic, This is by far one of my favorite series, though Zeo (which i am sorry to say i missed as a child) has taken its place as Second, with In Space as best. Oh btw, for those of you that don't know what Dr. Who is, check it out, if you love sci-fi and time travel, its a MUST SEE.

Strangely, you didn't give out your opinion on the Cyclobots for this season, other than mentioning them. Were they any different from the Batlings and Stingwingers?
By the way, I had an interesting thought in mind. Have you ever considered doing the History of Pokemon (anime, not the games). You do use references for AT4W and from what I could tell, you seem to really like the show. And by that, I mean you could go through each season like Orange Islands, Johto, Master Quest, etc. Though that's only a thought, so maybe I'm getting ahead of myself. Anyway, I'll be looking forward to Wild Force.

Great analysis, like always!
Like I've said, I got so impatient for the next review that I went and watched Time Force myself. I think it was the first time I was ever dodging spoilers on a Power Rangers show before I got to the end. I gotta say, I LOVE this season, warts and all. With a time travel story, you're guaranteed some plot holes. Still, I feel that Time Force really raised the bar for what a PR show could accomplish.
Looking forward to the 'Wild Force' rundown, especially since I honestly have no further plans for watching that season (so thanks in advance for saving me the trouble. =D ) Plus, I really wanna hear what you have to say about "Reinforcements from the Future."

08.23.2010 - 00:37 | TheOnlyTrueDedicatedWhen you said The End of Time, I immediately thought of Doctor Who, but was completely astonished when you made the joke. I know that you are a fellow Whovian, but I was still surprised.
Your comments on the crossover event certainly seemed good, but I disagree on the morphing music. Sure it might have been better with the full orchestral style, but I think it went quite well on its own.
Your mentioning that the series is about predestiny vs. free will makes me think of Terry Goodkind's The Sword of Truth books. In them, the main protagonist, Richard, chooses not to believe in prophecy, despite many of them featuring him in them. They explain that there is balance in magic, and that the balance to prophecy is free will, and Richard's free will allows him to fulfill the prophecies. After all, if you had a prophecy saying you would do something, and you believed it, then you might think that it would happen no matter what you did. However, without your free will to decide to do it, and for the right reasons, then the prophecy would very likely fail.
One more thing. You mentioned that Ransik was to be cryogenically frozen for the rest of his life. Doesn't the basic science behind cryogneics preserve the subject so that they don't age, die, etc.?
By the way, doesn't Forever Red occur during Wild Force? An episode featuring all the previous red rangers just sounds EPIC. But I wonder if they managed to pull it off effectively.

I watched this one when I was little and remembered thinking that the pink-haired lady looked like some sort of tooth-brush and the owl was some big reference to Bubo from Clash of The Titans.
Aw... I was hoping a mention to the episode where the pink ranger went to an alternate reality where the rangers and villians went through a role reversal where THEY were destroying the city.

I think you've got series' confused. There was an episode near exact to that in the series ninja storm (hopefully Lewis can back me up when he gets that far) and while I do remember an episode where the rangers are put in a virtual reality where they have to face replicas of themselves but that's about as close I can remember.
Hopefully that helps.

08.23.2010 - 00:58 | KariWhoa, this series makes science cry. Seriously, hide the DVDs from Dr. Insano.
The part that has me really tilting my head, oddly enough, is the bone sword thing- which is COOL AS HELL by the way, but do they explain it? Does he have one fewer tibia now? Does he put the bone back in his leg afterward? Wouldn't you rather have a leg than a sword?!
I'm overthinking again, probably. It's what I do.

I've been anticipating this review for a while, and I think you treated it very well. I saw this when I was 8 (when it first aired), so I only remember the awesome theme song, Alex's "death", Eric becoming a ranger, the Lightspeed crossover, the movie studio 2-part filler ep, and a bit of how it ended. However, I do remember that it was very deep with great acting and a great start to the end of the "Saban Era".
I think your reviews are getting better, since you aren't blinded by nostalgia. There sure seems to be a lot of plot holes....and I could've sworn Jen and Wes kissed at some point.....was that an FCC issue or something?
Also, how come you didn't discuss the morphing sequence or at least the Power Ranger suits this time? I'll give you the benefit of doubt that you just forgot, since I only started actively watching your comic reviews yesterday. ^_^
Before I ramble on, I'll just say that I can't wait to see further reviews in this series, as well as AT4W. I've grown up watching every season (besides R.P.M), and I can't wait to see how the ongoing transition from Saban to Disney affected Wild Force, which was the first season ABC affiliates aired.
I hope you'll continue to do series reviews like this. Doctor Who maybe? :want:

Oh, agreed. I stayed on strong until S.P.D and Mystic Force, which I was pretty much forced into 1st watching, but watched all of it anyway, drifted in and out of Overdive, yet saw the plot and crossover special, as well as surviving Jungle Fury JUST because it reminded me of Ninja Storm, but R.P.M? I just blew it off...and that was BEFORE I knew the premise! I mean, doesn't it ruin continuity? Although it's not like they CARE or anything.... :grr: Also, S.P.D and onwards does ONE thing constantly that pisses me off, but I don't wanna spoil that too soon... Jeez, Disney is really hit or miss, huh? Good thing Saban got the rights back.

I've got to admit, I'm looking forward to wild force. I dropped out of Power Rangers after the first series, and it was during time force that I got back into it. That's honestly part of why I appreciate these videos, because I've missed a -lot- of power rangers, and while in an ideal world, I'd pick up the old series and watch them through, but I'm sure that Linkara would be the first to admit that it's a very time consuming process. I know he's not reviewing the original sentai series, but I'd really like to see his take on them to if/when he gets the time. At least, the sentai series that were translated to Power Rangers. In particular, I'd be interested to see his takes on Dekkaranger (SPD) and Magiranger (Mystic Force). These are series that, while I didn't grow up with them, my group of friends back in college followed them as they were released, and damn, did some of the episodes get intense. Though, if I had to chose one to see him review, I'd go with Magiranger, heh. Watch the first few episodes, and you might see why.
-
Yeah... I am glad you mentioned the icky bit of the whole Alex-Jen-Wes deal. I remember originally being shocked that she didn't stay in 2001 with Wes, though now in hindsight I can see why it is best she got sent back: She would then have been engaged to one guy only for her to have turned out to be his great-great grandmother. I guess its for the best that she won't remember him after they get their minds altered, huh? (And what makes Alex so special that he doesn't need to go through this process?)
Also, while Power Rangers has always been tripped with plotholes(like past episodes where minorities and women are not treated too out of place, why villians tend to send only one bad guy a time, where do the rangers find time to make a living or go to school while being a ranger and good works, etc), this one actually has ones big enough that even back then I was scratching my head and thinking "Wait, what? Why?" The whole never seeing how the future changed is one of them, the whole Mutants being treated unfairly charade, why the future doesn't send an army to take back the baddies, why there is someone who is a petty thief in what is most certainly a high leveled baddest of the bad prison, yeah its a long list. I think the reason it sticks out more in this season is because a lot of it would get pointed out again and again, like the changed future thing.
Not a perfect season, but still good none the less. Happy to see a new episode and I applaud you for all the time it must suck up.

Another awesome review Linkara. I originally hated the team up for this season simply because of the incredibly anti-climactic ending. Your review helped me look at the other parts of that episode more positively. I thought this season was one of the best since Space, Lost Galaxy and Lightspeed didnt really do it for me. Also when Wes and Jen finally admit they love each, i was thinking the exact same thing, WHY DIDN'T THEY KISS?!?! Tommy and Kimberly never said they "loved" each other but they kissed on multiple occasions. One kiss wouldnt have killed the series and it really needed to be there.
Looking forward to your wild force review, have fun at Power Morphicon!

Time force is one my favorite seasons, not a favorite of all time( that title will still hold to Dino Thunder)but I do have my favorite episodes of the series, I like the villains( and I do agree on the dynamically of them) honestly I have fond memories of this series, it was the last one that I saw on Fox, before they moved the family. And I do think of the plot holes, but it's not as bad as the next season( really there are some plot holes that really stick in my mind on that one!) but yes this is one of my favorites.
-
08.23.2010 - 01:58 | MichaelDj54I can't wait to see your review of Wild Force, that's my favorite season outside of Mighty Morphin'. But I like this review a lot, I like Ransik because he's one of the first Complete Monsters on this show I was terrified of. Besides, I think he gets a good amount of redemption in the next season (veterans of the series know what I'm talking about), and I completelely agree with "sympathetic pasts do not a sympathetic character make", because my friends can feel pity for someone because "their father hit them too much" in a show when here they're butching hordes of people.
All around, I'm loving yoour history Videos, and like I said, I eagerly await your Wild Force review.
