Reportedly it was because they felt that the change might be very confusing to the children, which made no sense at all considering Tommy.
Another possible reason was that the Dairanger fight footage itself, well, was a tad violent.
On Season 2 itself, this was where I was introduced to the show so I can really relate to this episode. Episodes and multi-parters that stick out for me are White Light, Rangers Back in Time and Wild West Rangers.
I'm rather curious to see his view on S3, since change, the word that he describes S2, happens IN SPADES.

04.15.2010 - 23:17 | Kratos KrisnaThat struck a distinct chord with me in the movie. At the time, I didn't understand that it was a Sentai Hack Job, so I wondered if they had new power sources, why didn't they get new costumes?
And for Linkara, Will you talk about the movie? It introduced us to themes used in the third season, but the Nostalgia Critic already talked about it.

03.25.2011 - 21:05 | ZeldaTheSwordsmanThere was no Black Ranger in Dairanger.

Not changing the costumes is actually just fine here, because of two reasons:
1. THEY'RE STILL USING THE SAME POWER COINS. This is the big one. They might not be piloting the same animals any more, but the coins their Ranger powers come from haven't changed.
2. The main five Thunderzords are, at heart, the Dinozords, transforming from them in every use.
It's only in season 3 that it becomes awkward, what with their coins being different animals.

Yeah, Zedd was more menacing as a bachelor & not having to deal with Rita's whining all the time, though admittedly it was cool seeing them use their wands together to super size their monsters.
Zedd was the best, I still remember when I saw him for the first time, HE WAS SCARY, I mean legitimately menacing, and I loved it. Major improvement over Rita, who's routine by that time had grown stale. Plus, like Linkara said, he was always more strategic in his plans beyond simply sending puddies and monsters to earth to stir up trouble.
P.S. I think its a shame we never saw Serpentera fight the other Zords, we knew Zedd had it, but he never fully utilized it in open conflict with the Thunder Megazord as far as I remember.

04.13.2010 - 21:19 | HadesI'm surprised you didn't mention Zedd's early attempts to turn Tommy to his side. The original point of targeting him, was to force his conversion, as ell as several instances of holding the others lives forfeit if he didn't. Also, according to the Power Rangers Wiki, Kimberley ends up marrying Skull after they leave the show. It was in the script to Forever Red.

I'm ashamed to say I never saw much power rangers. The only season I ever fully watched was the Time Rangers one, the one considered 'darker', though I use the term sparingly.
I've actually been going back to watch some of the episodes of the original series since these videos started though. If such dedication can be born out of a series, it must be worth a view.

I remember having Pirantis Head and the Red Ranger's Chinese Dragon zord as toys when I was a kid. They were pretty cool, all things considered. I liked the 2nd season much more than the first.
HELL YES, LINKARA! "When is a Ranger Not a Ranger?" was the episode I had running through my head while you were explaining the character development at Bulk and Skull just before hand. I loved that episode! Bulk and Skull got major cool points for that. They ended up learning the identities of the Power Rangers, but decided to help them after realizing that they were basically the closest thing to friends the two of them had.
If they revealed that they were the Power Rangers, they'd be ruined forever by the publicity and whatnot. They lost their memories in the end, but ended up saving the day.

Very in depth review, Linkara! I remember season two being a good one and you touched on many of my favorites including Wild West Rangers which had to be one of my all-time favorites. Looking forward to season three! ^_^

04.13.2010 - 22:41 | random_fanGreat review Linkara, Bulk and Skull are awesome. You wonder why nobody else besides Bulk, Skull and the rangers don't bother chasing after the baby well these are the same people living in a city that gets attacked by monsters on an almost weekly basis, I don't think anyone there is all that smart.

Up until now I always wanted Bulk and Skull to become power rangers, but now I see that would have been a major contradiction to the message their characters were meant to convey : That you don't need super powers to be a hero. B)
I hope you reconsider not reviewing the ranger movies Link. I need someone to thoroughly trash that Turbo movie..... THOROUGHLY.
What I remembered most about that movie was that a 10 year old was the red ranger and the main villian was friggin smoking hot.

04.15.2010 - 17:21 | Tanabata07Actually dude, the Blue ranger was the 10 year old. Who somehow grew to look like a teenager when he transformed. Red ranger was Tommy again. I'm still confused by that movie's plot. I mean, magic pirate ship? Really? And that volcano possession thing scene was quite...disturbing to my 8 year old self. And let's not forget the half-assed reason why Rocky wasn't part of the team this time 'round. Broken bones? [i]Exploding[i] hasn't stopped the Rangers from kicking ass. Eh, whatever, I stopped trying to make sense of Ranger logic around the time that their base started to become magic.

04.13.2010 - 23:49 | GoggleCandy"When is a Ranger not a Ranger" The minute you mentioned prominent Bulk and Skull moments and episodes, this was the first thing that popped into my mind. Not because Bulk and Skull saved the rangers (though that's a big part of things), but I felt the rangers owed it to Bulk and Skull to tell them afterwords who they were. They saw their true nature and figured out that the two had saved the entire team. For a group of charity wielding, super-ultra good nature teens, the concepts of karma and/or paying someone back apparently don't apply to them.

04.14.2010 - 11:43 | iamoutofmyelementDon't forget the USA Network's horrible attempt to cash in on the Power Rangers craze with the Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills. I think I killed a few brain cells just now typing in that title.
-
04.14.2010 - 15:24 | Mattevansc3The Beetle Borgs will probably be mentioned in the Forever Red episode as they used the Beetle Borg costumes for the villains.
The one thing I always thought was odd, though, was why they didn't bother changing the Rangers' costumes after they got new Zords. Since they no longer used the Dinozords, it made no sense to have costumes that reflected the prehistoric animal theme.
