BAH. Silent Hill is a masterpiece of video gaming. Don't let the comic book sour you. THE GAMES ARE AWESOME.

Well said, Linkara. I can't figure out how Ben Templesmith keeps getting work...seems like he just splatters a page with poster paint and then doodles on it with a ball point pen.
And what really bugs me is that occasionally, you actually will get a panel that's very well drawn...but then it's right back to giant heads and scribbly claw hands.

Yeah, when I finally get around to doing the whole miniseries, the artwork will be my biggest complaint.
-
07.21.2009 - 00:26 | dungeonmaster11 - Ben Templesmith's style
The odd art style Ben Templesmith employs does work for a lot of the other stuff he does, like 30 Days of Night, Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse, Hatter M, and so on, but it certainly does seem very off in this series.
By the way, how do you feel in particular about the other series he's worked on, such as the ones mentioned above? Just curious.

Not that the guy there looks any better. He has no neck, one massive forehead, and vaguely resembles a bad Dick Tracy villain.

That artist's style, was the same artist used in the Dead Space motion comic? (Xbox Live and PSN)
-

If you haven't seen the Dead Space motion comic, don't worry, you're not missing much

Any opinions about the Watchmen m.c.?

Thanks for the reminded Linkara, I've been meaning to buy the Silent Hill Omnibus book.
Here's a link to it.
http://www.amazon.com/Silent-Hill-Omnibus-Scott-Ciencin/dp/1600102395/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1241245261&sr=1-1
Damn, big link.
Here's the newest comic I think.
http://www.amazon.com/Silent-Hill-Sinners-Tom-Waltz/dp/1600102387/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1241245261&sr=1-2
...another huge link.
Edit: Hmm, seems Sinner's Reward is supposed to be better, guess I'll see, I bought both books.

Photoshop is NOT a cure for "bigheadedness".
Ps. Good video. Your stuff is always worth watching even though I'm personally not a big fan of the whole 5 seconds / 5 panel thing. But then again, who cares what I like? ... But that's ok. *lays down on his bed, stares at the ceiling and a tear runs down his cheek*

05.01.2009 - 20:38 | rageofkyubii - That was creepy....
Heads should NOT be that big compared to their bodies!
Speaking of video game comics, I was wondering what you thought of the Dead Space animated comic, Linkara. I know since its animated, its not exactly a comic book, per say, but I'm just curious of your thoughts on it, especially compared to this mess of a comic tie-in.

You can find it on EA's YouTube Profile. They've uploaded all the "issues" there. Here's the link to Issue One.

Dying Inside is the only one I've read so far... so it can only go uphill from there.

Then you haven't read "Silent Hill: Hunger" yet. Pray to your god(s) you never do. It was fucking TERRIBLE.

Nice one man...I've never seen this comic before, it looks interesting.
The Eileen head in the hospital stared deep into my soul so I left that room never to speak of it again...
I may be wrong but is that the same animator who did the dead space comic?
-
05.01.2009 - 20:51 | frogs albatou - Haha wow
Being a fan of the series I was so excited when I got my hands on the comic. Needless to say I was less than impressed. Think you might ever tear this comic a new one with an AT4W review?
-

Wow..There were Silent Hill comics? Never heared bout thoes before, the artworks for some reason reminds me of the MGS style, wonder if it's the same artist.

Great as always, you fedora wearing devil!
Although I have got to say, I have never gotten on board with everyones complaints in regards to the comics.
I do think Templesmith is a bit overrated, but I think the overly expressive (and downright weird I will admit) art style worked well in Dying Inside (the only one I have read as well). The story did get a bit, well, mediocre (and near the end downright bad) at times, but it had a couple of great moments, and Christabella is a hilarious villain.
However, I hear the Smiling Man is much better (although after thumbing the first two pages I would have to disagree), so hopefully you enjoy that one more.
Regardless, still looking forward to whenever you do review it!

Suddenly, I've got that "Big Head" song from the MST3k skits stuck in my head...
-
05.01.2009 - 21:49 | nsonic79 - That's what the comic looks like?
Doesn't really hold up to the tradition. It makes me wonder how the digital comic would fair, music effects and animation notwithstanding...
-
05.01.2009 - 22:07 | Phelous
Haha bigger than the Eileen head!
She should just stand there and make weird moaning noises as well.
Dead wife huh? Boy I wonder where they got that idea...

Why is The Rock giving the people's eyebrow to a dead person?
-

Odd. I liked all the Silent Hill comics. Especially Dying Inside having all the references to the other games. The character interaction was trash for the most part. But I liked the dark dirty feeling of the place itself. And the monsters. And the references to the cult. Loved the cult references.

Ah, yes. The Silent Hill comic books.
The first indication that Team Silent had just stopped caring.
-
05.02.2009 - 04:06 | WarpedElements
Did Team Silent even have anything to do with this? I thought it was all IDW's venture?
-
05.02.2009 - 14:15 | Exorph
No, they probably didn't, but they sold the rights, just like with the movie and the recent games.

Does every popular video game have a comic book adaptaion? I know, off the top of my head, there's Pokemon, Doom, Gears of War, World of Warcraft, the Warcraft series in eneral, Mario series, Legend of Zelda, Star Fox, Kingdom Hearts, Sonic the Hedgehog, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, and probably a bunch others I never heard of.
-
05.02.2009 - 04:39 | Adrenal Lynn
Oh, you did not just insult Templesmith. >.<
Linkara, you're my fave reviewer, but it's Templesmith! 30 Days of Night ring a bell, or Fell?... okay, the movie adaptation sucked, but the comics themselves are gritty and captivating.
'Sigh'... to each their own, I guess. >3 If anything, Fell's his best work to date because he has a good writer, finally.

-

Ben Templesmith kinda reminds me of Cam Kennedy, who's Star Wars comics I used to read. Their styles were similar in that Kennedy would splash a page with water color then draw over it.
Though, to be fair, Kennedy is much more coherent and talented. But that's just my opinion.
