And it ends with alan moore being called a genius again. Is every alan moore work going to be like that?

And By the way, you actually dont mention V for Vendetta much. What's your full opinion on it?(other than it's awesome)

Well, he is a genius :O
It seems though I am one of the few that like the comic and the movie.

Nah, it's the same with me. I liked both, even though I knew from the start the movie couldn't be exactly like the book and would inevitably make comments on the Bush administration.

...I mean, it's not as if the Thatcher Government is current anymore, is it?

That was hilarious. I love how you just completely focused on the words, and not even so much the panels. And even though I know you love Alan Moore as a writer (who doesn't?), did I sense a hint of sarcasm there? Gotta love it when eccentrics get called out. :P

Alan Moore is a genius, if a pompous and eccentric one. My favorite part about this was actually the music. Good choice. :)

Hey, Beethoven's fifth did make it into the comic. ^_~

Ah yes, V for Vendetta. One of many master pieces of the Alan Moore. Its shame that not many people can see his genius making his works marginal and leaving greater audience seeking more secure comics.

I hope all the Alan Moore comics in 5 seconds end that way. :)

I hope to see a final crisis review or done in 5 panals in the future, but so long as you continue to make me laugh i don't care what you are making fun of.

Good job. I thought you'd insert something with Evie but oh well :P.

By the way, kudos to inserting Beethoven's 5th.

Honestly, I see this as more of a jab at the movie than anything else (despite what might have been intended).

The comic is, like many Alan Moore comics are, ambiguous. It's up to the reader to decide whether V is a nutbag or a hero.

Unlike the film...well, I actually think the film is good, only if it is considered on its own merits. As a standalone, it's cool. As an adaptation, well...

Kinda like how I see Watchmen. Good film on its own, bad adaptation.

Say what you want about movies based on Alan Moore's comics, but they're the only films that make me want to read his comics. Sadly, I haven't been able to find this one. We have no comic book stores in my town, and the regular book stores suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. :pinch:

And you don't need to keep saying Alan Moore's a genius. We know and he sure as heck knows, too. XD

  • keylaleigh

Now you need to do Promethea in five panels... even though that's a series.

Just keep going with the Alan Moore thing.

    Ah V for Vendetta.
Just three years ago, as the movie came out, I read the reprint (unfortunately not the original, but in germany we can`t get this books anymore) and I loved it from the first page on.
In fact, this grafic novel was the reason, why I decided to read comics again, but this time more serious works like this, Watchmen, League of extraordinaire Gentleman or other work, which now didn`t have lots of "normal" superheros in it.

V for Vendetta, a great work and V is one of the greatest comic characters I ever saw. He has style, he is intelligent and as far as I can say it... well, in some ways he is a hero. I know you can always discuss, if V is more a hero, an antihero or a villain, but what I think is "great" about this character is, that he doesn`t try to change the entire countrie like he think it is right. He wants "anarchy" and tries to "destroy" the political system, but he doesn`t want to rebuild it in his own way and therefore somehow gains power. In fact, he kills himself in some ways and by his death, he gives a lot of people the chance to decide for themself, how the new system will look like etc.

But not only V. Also all the other characters are great in some ways. The "Fuehrer" for example. I don`t support fascism in any way, but I think this characters was brilliant in this way, as that he showed this "monsters" also in a human way. This people did lost the connection to reality and therefore they are lost but also commit crimes which are unforgivable.
Well, at last he looked like this.

And then there is the movie...
I watched your Watchmen movie review and also saw your reaction there about V, therefore I won`t ask for your opinion, but will try to say mine:
First at all, the comic is always superior to the movie. But looking on what Hollywood did to other works of Alan Moore, I thought V for Vendetta was "okay".
First at all, I could understand why they decided to turn this thing more in a way, as that in a time of terrorism the party came to power.
We have to realize, this movie came up a few years ago, as in fact for example in Spain (at 2004) a train was blown up by terrorists or other things.
Beleive me Lnkara, we in Europe did have our own "problems" with this somehow. By using this, they somehow put it in a more "modern" and reaistic context.
The party... I know that some people say it would be a critic against the Bush administration. And well... I don`t think Bush was a great president, but I never thought they tried to critice him with this movie.
In my opinion this party was still fascistic. Not that they did show it in a great way -I think some KZ would have been necessary for this- but...
just believe me, we germans and fascism... we know how that looks alike and this "Fuehrer" really looked like Hitler when he lost his mind.
And there is for me the first reason, why I think this movie made mistakes.
First at all, the politicians. In the comic you always good a good insight into their psyche, but here the "Fuehrer" is just some choleric asshole which later got betrayed by one of his best man.
this was just... the comic was better in this way.

    V and the video message:
again, the comic was better. I thought this came up much to early in the movie and somehow it was out of context for me. I don`t know how to explain it but... yeah...

    V as the hero:
I think there was again a problem with the movie. As all the people in London dressed up as V, I just hit my head against the seat in fornt of me.
Not a "bad" idea but... that all people really then somehow see in V a hero and a rebel which should be supported was somehow wrong.
In the comic, the people don`t know how to react because of Vs attacks. I sure think some supported him but here it was just to much.

    the matrix effects.
....just the matrix effects in the end fight scene.
I don`t think that one or two fightscenes would have been bad, but not like in the actual movie. This was just... what is the problem of the Wacholsky brothers?
They just did one good movie in their entire life and they always use this one effect which is nowadasy just lame.

    my facit:
V for Vendetta wasn`t a bad movie, but it wasn`t in anyway like the comic. I think it was more like "Shining" from Stanley Kubrick compared to Stephen Kings novel, but with the printed work being superior to the movie adaptation.

Lol, excellent job, Linkara. That about sums it up.

I also like how you hit Alan Moore on the nail.

I would love to see one of these for Alan Moore's run on MiracleMan, but you'll probably be sued by 17 different people claiming they own the rights to the character.

Any idea if that legal clusterfuck will resolved anytime soon?

V IS MY FAVORITE TERRORIST! why? becasue he proves that out of the way of destruction and will power we the people can rule the unite kingdom ONCE AGAIN! through the horror of what is the government the novel shows us that through lies and destruction and putting fear into us they control us at every turn in our lives

i am unable to decide whether the comic or movie is more made of awesome.

and yes he is a genius. an insane, pompous, dogmatic, will hate every film adaptation of his work ever made genius.

 How curious i thought you would make the whole "V"; you when he starts talking only with words that have "V".
By the way since im a noob, could you tell me: DId you liked the movie?

  • Linkara
    avatar

I did not. There were certainly great moments and Hugo Weaving owned that role, but the movie changed the thematic elements of the story. At least with Watchmen there can be some debate about if they maintained the same elements, but with V for Vendetta, they completely chucked out the debate of fascism vs. anarchy and turned it into a critique of Neo-con American politics, and a hamfisted one at that.

  • DeadbeatShadows  - The comics...
    avatar

The comics were simply amazing. I read them all, and V will always be one of my favorite comic book protagonists. Thanks for makin' the vid, Linkara! It put a nice little smile on my face. The movie was entertaining, and though it didn't really stick to the spirit of the comics, at least it provided us with a memorable speech consisting of verbiage varying from violent to virtuous. XD

  • Linkara
    avatar

That speech was one of the things I liked. Hard to top that. XD

  • orwellianson  - Alan Moore... the genius?
    avatar

This may bery well true but it takes a real genius to sum this fine comic in 5 panels or less and that of course my brothers and sisters is none other than Linkara himself! Let's all give hima hand!

  • Bonkers

Let`s not forget the morning chat with Evie where he makes toast.
Perhaps some people didn`t like the scene, but watching V in a kitchen, making toast and talking so relaxed while we also see his "burned" hands...
in some ways I could imagine this scene as a part of the comic, this was somehow -also if it was for a very short time- one of the best scenes in the movie.
    At lst for me.

What I didn`t like was how this entire story forgot about the detective because I thought he was one of the better figures of the comic.
Also I thought they should have shown "more" of the crimes by the gouvernment.
Honestly, perhaps by sowing such scenes this entire "more neo americanism" wouldn`t have been such a debatte at last in America.

(In case why anyone's wondering why I posted this late, I waited to finish the novel and was afraid of spoilers...)
Also, great use of Beethoven's 5th.
    It's a reference...AND it's awesome! B)

    Hello.

You might enjoy reading the following movie review from a foreign policy journal out of Washington that destroys the movie. It's written by the assistant editor of the National Interest. It should be available free online and it rips the movie to shreds. Hopefully, A google search will be enough.

    Here is the citation:

I never read the comic so I can't speak on how good it is. All I can say is that the movie was AWFUL. This thing was a conspiracy nut's wet dream. The government created AIDS to kill blacks and gays, the government was responsible for 9/11, and so many pot shots and Fox News I lost count.

Now I don't like to rant on politics, so I'll end this right now. All I'll say now is that I have worked in a movie theater, and this was the only film I have ever seen in my entire life that got openly booed when it was over.
