07.07.2009 - 00:06 | THOOMSupershow as usual.
Roadrunner motif at the beginning was nice and now I understand that is the theme for countdown: Running Around Looking For Crap and Chasing Things.
The cover of issue 42 (Enter:Clayface) "evokes disturbing mental imagery"? What's that, a Scat fetish? ...I didn't even think of that until you suggested it.
I was excited about Duela Dent, because this was a character I (at the time) had discovered in an old Teen Titans issue (Wedding of Donna Troy) and I wanted to know more about the character....Then she gets wasted a couple of pages after her (and the series') introduction. Ooookay.
All of the issues you have there on the couch are bagged and boarded? Since you hate this series and clearly place no value in it, I suppose your LCS gives you free bags and boards, like mine. I guess every store does that nowadays.
The handcuff thing is a nitpick. The plane thing is worse, but it's a weekly comic, they are rushing through this, there would be some minor continuity problems. I noticed the evening to day sky, but at that point, I was more concerned that a few issues in, and I felt no tension for these characters.
I still had no interest in the story at that point.
"The kids are acting more mature than the writers!" You hit the nail on the head. That explains alot about the state of mainstream comics.
On the death of Lightray page, I was hoping that you would read Superman's dialogue in the dramatic manner in which it was written: "What does it mean for the universe...
WHEN A GOD DIES!!?"
Shall we make a list of "pointless miniseries" and storylines in other titles that you had to read if you wanted to get all of the story of Countdown? Fellow 4 Wall Fanboys, feel free to cut, past and add onto the list. See how big it gets:
Salvation Run
The Lighning Saga
Amazon Attacks
Death of the New Gods
Countdown to Adventure
Countdown to Mystery

I'm a little let down that this whole thing is going to just be reduced to 2-3 eps...but I realize that making many more videos than that would've been a heavy demand from you, much moreso than would be needed to go over this series in the detail that it deserves, at least!
I trust your judgement, though, and will watch this mini-series through to the end, and only imagine how much more painful it would've been to actually read the real comic series. :s

Right, time for betting.
3 to 1 says Countdown kills Linky before he can finish it all off.
5 to 2 says the the cyborg gets him before the end of the review.
12 to 1 says he winds up lining up all the comics in a row and shooting them one by one.
100 to 1 says turns evil, turns good again, then turns evil at the drop of a hat in a move that makes no sense whatsoever.
Place your bets!

I would say putting them in a row and killing all in just one shot, b the way has the gun a name like Sledge Hammers Susie?

Great review, as always... one of your better ones actually.
But as a guy who never followed DC, I think some of my brains just dribbled out my left ear trying to follow this mess of a series.
Anyway, thanks (I think)

Pure awesomeness Linkara, you deserve a medal for having to go through this crap. Hell, you'll have earned a car or private Island when this is over.
"Attention future comic book writers, artists and editors, watch this show to get a clue!"
Your continuity alarm is still broken. You need to tweak it a bit more before it's 100% since you shot it..uhh...months ago, I believe xD
This review is pretty good...I need to get into the teen titans comics, since i didn't even KNOW about Harle being a TT....or...y'know...much of anything about any of the comic series'....I'd probably be more interested in the superheros than I currently am if I did...give me money to do this? XD
I should note that there's a difference between Harley Quinn and Harlequinn. XD

05.11.2010 - 20:07 | redjirachiThat's Final Crisis,not Countdown.
-
07.06.2009 - 23:35 | Richard WeskerCrossovers, events that take forever to finish, pointless mini-series out the wazoo.....these are the reasons why I don't collect comics like I used to. I shouldn't be laughing as hard as I am at Linkara's reviews, because comics companies like DC and Marvel shouldn't be setting themselves up to be made fun of this easily! GAHHHH!!! It makes my blood boil to think that the industry may be going down in flames, albeit slowly, because of its mostly self-inflicted wounds!

Wait a minute! Wait just one minute here! Karate Kid contracts some disease so they won't let him go back to the future. So, then he and Triplicate Girl globetrot to find the cure... Okaaaaay? *cleansing breath*
If KK and TG could find a cure to the disease in the present, then the solution would obviously be there in the future as well. At least some record of it would be. So then why keep him from going back where they could knock the disease out lickety-split? Furthermore, if the JSA is worried KK's disease is contagious, then isn't Karate Kid more dangerous to keep in the present than the future? If this disease is fatal or something he runs a serious risk of changing the future irreparably. Not to mention the fact that's he's traversing the country, if not the world, further bringing the risk of an epidemic. It... It boggles the mind! I could go on and on off of this, and this is just one sub-plot!
Sheesh... now I know why I don't read comics that avidly... I need a drink.
