Blue Beetle Tribute

Linkara Note: I just want to apologize for the background noise - it was really hot when I recorded it so I had to keep the fan on.

04.27.2009 - 22:35 | Star_SageI personally didn't care for the Sinestro Corp Wars. The story itself was strong, and the art work wasn't laughable, though there were a few group shots in the series where I found a couple of errors on the background lanterns. My problem is mainly with the ending, which was unsatisfying for the rest of the story, especially considering the inclusion of the Anti Monitor in the villain's ranks. This is a creature that literally willed entire realities out of existence before. Nothing the Lanterns did should have been able to hurt it.
Also, will be looking for this Blue Beetle comic on my next run to the comic shop. Sounds at least interesting...and you scare me. Both the 90s kid, and that Wonder Dog...got any better pictures of it? Hey, if people didn't like being scared, the horror movies wouldn't be made...oh wait, they aren't being made anymore, just slasher flicks made for blood and gore. Curse you HOLLYWOOD!!!

While I agree that it seems like a waste for someone of his power level, just seeing him involved raised the bar of the event up. Even Hal Jordan admitted that they needed to bring Earth's heroes into it once they saw him.
Plus the Guardians vs. Anti-Monitor fight was awesome. Really shows the power level THEY'RE at and explains why they were taken out of the picture in Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Also it sets the stage for Blackest Night. ^_~

Awesome review!
Great ending, and you are a great actor! When I was seeing the 90s kid, I needed to keep remembering it was you!
The Blue Beetle always was a hero with great ethic to me! But I only read his stories as the second BB as a side character, when I was a child.
But it is awesome to know that they made a history with "latino" people! And the invasion idea really is great!

I was laughing SO hard during this. I loved it. Turns out I was wrong. You CAN make positive reviews funny. :P
Anyway, I happen to share your view of really good stuff getting cancelled. I never read Blue Beetle (sorry! Don't kill me?), but I had a similar experience with Marvel's The Order from just last year (or thereabouts). It only ran 10 issues, but I LOVED it. It was awesome. Great action, great story, great dialogue...I can't comment on the art, necessarily, but I thought it was pretty good. Anyway, I hated that they cancelled it, and my only gripe with the series was that they decided to "gracefully" end it (as opposed to just stopping midway through an arc) by tying it into an Iron Man storyline. Besides my general distaste toward Iron Man anywhere except the movie, it just felt rushed (which I suppose it was) and like it wasn't what they really intended.
Also, I TOLD you Weird Al had a song for every situation. I freaking told you. Didn't I tell you? Please validate my insane obsession with the internet... :(
And I don't think Mark Millar was necessarily trying to paint Iron Man or the pro-registration forces as purely the heroes. It's clear that by making them win he was advocating that viewpoint, but I think the whole Negative Zone prison and stuff like that was actually done to show what happens when you take those ideas too far, and care more about results than the actual spirit of a law or idea. That's what I took from it anyway; I actually LIKED Civil War, so maybe that's just me.

04.27.2009 - 23:02 | TBTabbyMaybe people didn't buy it because they were afraid that the lighthearted stories were setting up for more typical DC grimdark. I kept waiting for Jaime's friends and family to be raped/murdered so that he could be all gritty and brooding like a "proper" superhero,

Hmm, most of my comics involve characters killing, raping, being raped, burning, pillaging, destroying, conquering, rampaging, just plain beating the ever loving shit out of their foes, killing again and blowing shit up ... I guess I should have at least ONE comic I can safely leave around my room without my mother thinking I need psychiatric care ... again.
Amusing video as always Link. Rock on.

Great video Linkara. *laughs*
Found an interview you might find interesting, it's about Mark Waid talking about his career in comics. Apparently Didio hated the plotting in 52, and referred to Coutndown as "52 done right".
Which leads to the question, "what the hell was he thinking?!?" really.

10.12.2010 - 14:08 | Bradman1978I like to see some more "you should read this" although not AT4W. Even thought I'm pretty old 32 I never got into comics mainly cause I never bother my mom for money when I was a kid and it was the 90's when I was a teen.
I hope I'm wrong, but have you ever thought it might be Jamie is Latin could be the reason he's not more popular. I like to think not many comic reads are racist.

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" and a Sega Genesis. I like both of those things. Please tell me 90s Kid isn't a one-shot character.

I was never that big of a Blue Beetle fan, although I've always enjoyed Booster Gold's wacky antics. Still, Ted's return in BG's new series was probably one of the most memorable and awesome scenes in recent times I can recall, so
Yeah I don't know where I was going with this. Great review, Lew, looking forward for more!
Oh, I love Yu-Gi-Oh, but when you stop and think about it, it's kind of silly. ^_~
And that's why we have Little Kuriboh(sp?) for.
....
Um, anyway, Pretty good. If I get an interest in other comic books, I'll considered buying it.
BTW, what's the tittle of that song used for the '90s kid' scenes?

04.28.2009 - 00:09 | DanscGreat review - I dunno if it was that "positive" though, you just complained about the readers who never picked up these books instead of the books themselves. Progress, I guess?
You know, Linkara, you've really established yourself as one of the best video review guys out there, at least in my book. What you do may not be too original or inventive, but you simply do it so well and deliver better than nearly anyone I've seen.
So, in other words, keep up the good work and thanks for making me laugh every week ^_____^

Finally, someone praising this hero as much as me!
I am abit afraid things are going to go back to the 90's (in a bad way). There are a couple of Garth Ennis books I read, but it is sad that a books fulled with nothing but the vilest, twisted acts of humanity (do I REALLY need to say the name ;) ) always gets high sales yet HONEST, NOBLE, AND KIND Superheroes constantly get ignored!
