Wow, this crossover stuff is confuing, or at least more confsing then it should be.

Loved your tongue twister.

But my goodness, that was hilarious. Your rant about how they had diplomatic relations with the world was filled with such rage as has not been seen since the pointy stick wars. Top notch sir!

Also, am I the only one who thinks "diplomatic relations" takes on a creepily erotic connotation when you're talking about a race of women? Yes, I am? Okay, just checking.

NOOO Linkara don't give up!!! I need to know how the rest of this bullcrap turns out!!
Fantastic review by the way (as always) xDD

XD Awesome Linkara, though I didn't really get the Fire with Fire joke at the end, besides that, it was great.

And I do not envy you, 4 more to go and I doubt it will get any better XD

It's an obscure little joke - the music group Kansas does a song called Fight Fire with Fire and it's playing in the ending credits.

Gah, Lew (can I call you Lew?) that was great. Can't wait for the next episodes. Can we expect 2 issues per episode?
• Linkara
avatar
Yep, that's the plan.

And you may call me Lew. Or supreme lord and Master of the universe, but Lew's good too.
• pomaflah
Supreme Lord and Master of the Universe, you give me hope for feminists. And Mr. Lovhaug - if I may be so informal - you are really cool.
• Linkara

Unlike the Watchmen reaction, which was made right after I saw it without any time to cool off, I have genuine, unending hatred for Amazons Attack.

I can understand your annoyance about the details of that side stuff being just written.

But as bad as that was, it's still better than NOT EVEN MENTIONING IT like Crisis on Infinite Earth's collection does. I mean, they still include from the "Crisis" issue they put in there things like the Guy Gardner set up of what he'll do...tell you to read the issues about what he does...but don't include it in there.

That just annoyed me for some reason.

Dude COIE is massive as is. Do we really need to read about Guy or Blue Devil's adventures, which would distract the main event.

Hence why, when I was a kid playing "Pokémon Yellow", I always used a GameShark so I could have all 151.

Although I'm not oppossed to the idea of Timm's team trying to adapt it to a movie like they did with "New Frontier"
• Linkara
avatar
Actually, at the last convention I went to I asked Dwayne McDuffies if there had been any thought of adapting Crisis on Infinite Earths and he said there wasn't, since COIE had a purpose and function of condensing its multiverse. As such, there wasn't a point to adapting it.
• cyclopsfan1
avatar
Yeah that is understandable. DC is bad for not putting in every thing in their main events. Like Final Crisis. You had to read Superman Beyond and legion of three worlds (which was delayed till after Final Crisis) to make sense out of the odd Final issue of Final Crisis.

Marvel seems to did it right when they did Onslaught epic. All of the pages dealing with the arc were put in and anything else was cut.

Now for a DC Direct DVD of COIE would be interesting. They would have to cut out a lot. Just so much to it.
• CMWaters
avatar
Or make it a 3 hour film.

Or wouldn't that be enough even for it?
• cyclopsfan1
avatar
I don't know. There is a lot of stuff to it. I guess you can cut the whole villains take over plot and just focus on the whole Anti-monitor plot. I love that story and how deep it is but damn its just a lot to it.

Yes Supreme Lord and Master of the Universe. Shall I sacrifice my first born child to your greatness?

BTW, you're right. Wonder Woman: The DTV Movie isn't half bad. I kind of like Trevor and some of his one liners.

You described almost every major crossover for the past few years. For Civil War/Infinite Crisis/blahblahblah You have to pick up the other trades for them to make sense.

Also: Your tongue twister was evil. Please don't ever do that again. I end up pausing the video until I can say it properly.

Just plain lovely. But if you want a crossover event that's completley ludicrous I recommend Superman vs Terminator. I have thought about sending you my copy, but I realised that it is in Swedish. Could be hard to follow then. If you think the continuity issues is weird with Amazons Attack, it is nothing compared to SvT.

You're doing a review... of COUNTDOWN? O_O

God go with you, good Linkara. You're a braver man than most.
• Dectilon  - Circe
I'm pretty sure the name is pronounced Kirke.

edit: Original pronunciation must take a backseat to tongue-twisters I guess :(

By the way, normally I'd also call bullshit on someone shooting down a jet with an arrow (I for example remember Bullseye throwing a paper plane through a thick glass window in a Daredevil comic...), but the amazons have magic, don't they?
• Linkara
avatar
It's been said to me before, but in other places I've seen it pronounced Circe, hence why I did it like that.

Plus if I did it Kirke I wouldn't be able to do the tongue-twister. B)
• Linkara
avatar
I've thought about the magic explanation, but there's nothing in this or in the tie-ins to suggest they're using anything other than ancient fighting tactics. Sure, Circe was working with them for awhile but there's nothing in the comic to suggest their weapons have been imbued with magicks.
• Dectilon
Well.. how about the fact that the arrow was fired from the ground but enters the plane horizontally?

Ancient mythology (greek, norse etc) is so full of "Unstoppable spears" and "Heart-seeking arrows" the it hardly needs special mention.

I'm not defending the comic here, it does seem like a horrible piece of crap, but it makes sense that they brought the magic weapon stockpile. :)

Hmmm... Seeing how often the president in the DC universe changes and how easy the White House can be taken over (appearently with sticks, arrows and swords), I think there is an explaination how Lex Luthor got the job: Nobody else wanted it anymore.

exaclty what I am thinking. seriously, you must be as crazy as Luthor if you really want to be president of a world, in which everytime some megalomical villain tries to destroy a bigger city, space invaders want to enslave the human race or some other "idiots" tries to take over the multiverse.
Oh and let`s not forget, the problems of the own country, a president has then to solve.
Come on, the state leaders of the entire world are in my opinion almost desperate. I bet that everyone of them prays for a time, in which the greatest problem they will ever have to face is, when some terrorist threats to destroy something.
• Badly Drawn Manchild
Oh man, that was hilarious. Seeing just how convoluted and nonsensical this comic is really began to do my head in after a while. I also loved the range of humour you used; from smarminess to flat-out anger, some lines really had me laughing hard.

I know it's going to be painful for you, but I look forward to the next parts with great interest!

WTH?

How'd they get Kansas, and how did they burn the entire state down?
• Reamer
That whole thing with the cross-overs is what has turned me off from comics. The last comic I bought was the (IMO horrible)first issue of the re-launch of X-Force. I just don't have the money to be buying 20+ issues in most months just so I can make sense out of the one or two monthly books I enjoy following.

Also, my wife was wondering what I was watching last night and she wanted to watch this video with me and she absolutely loved it. Seeing as how she's really only read a limited amount of Birds of Prey, she doesn't know really anything about comic history, but it just shows that you do an amazing job at making your videos truly funny to the point were you don't have to be a comic geek to enjoy them. She's actually as interested as I am now to see the other two reviews for this series, so thank you for that.
• Bonkers  - Amazon Attack: Or how you start hating women
avatar
Or in other words DC for doing just ANOTHER unnecassary event after Infinite Crisis.
Sriously, I understand why DC/Marvel/whatever has to do such events as Civil War or Final Crisis, but I don`t understand why they just after such an event have to deal with another, often pointless thing. Best example... well, the deal of a well known superhero with the Devil eux machina of Marvel or in this case Amazon Attack.

Be Praised Linkara for reviewing bullcrap, that every Wonder Woman fan, DC fan or intelligent human hates. I mean... uargh!
I can`t even describe how I hate this thing.
First at all, the story which you can summarize in "women go to war with bows and arrows and take the right to kill innocent people by a "cheap" excuse and because a woman which is transformed into an political bitch gets manipulated by a person, which has the word "evil" almost hanging over their head."

I don`t want to make some people angry or you Linkara as you once said you would be a feminism
(by the way what are you now? A man, a manly feminism or a robot based on what Dr. Insano did to you?)
but this comic gives even the most tolerant people a reason to hate this woman. I mean... equal rights etc. reason for payback okay, but to kill innocent people because they have a penis?
Killing a father and then his son, just because they are visiting the Lincoln monument?
WHAT THE FUCK!
That`s no comic plot, that is just raping the dog.
and by watching at the real world, the worst thing is there are in fact some women who think they have the right to do something like this. (in fact I know someone like this and... oh dear god.)

But, let`s forget some crap ideology about men and women, this comic it just... as you say it, it sucks.
It is crap.
It is supercrapafuckterrificexp ialibullshit.
It does almost have nothing to do with Wonder Woman, it transforms the Amazons into men killing murderers by cheap plot development, it uses "genocide" as a cheap plot point for an event, which didn`t in fact in any way influence the DC cosmos into a "good" or even "bad" way (as I think) and it has a plot of which I am convinced, that he was written and developed by people who just hate women generally, so they tranform them into... this.

I am a man (no pun intended)with a high scale of cynism and even I am offended by this comic, that not even doesn`t justice to perhaps the greatest female superhero in existence, but also tries to convince us to have a great plot.
I don`t want to say, that DC did everything wrong with the events after Infinite Crisis, but this thing just jumped zthe shark.
... or did shoot him with an arrow, whatever.

And until next time... (gives you a coveralbum of Killing Joke and Arkham Asyllum) I hope this will prevent you from snaping out completely like FF8 did with Spoony.

Well, as for feminism it helps to remember that feminism is about equality for women, not chopping off men's heads. Anyone who claims to be a feminist and wants to simply invert the problem isn't acting towards equality.

Yea I know. And I am for equal rights for every person. But -I don`t want to make this now a long politician/ideology crap message- unfortuntely, there are always people who think that they should walk the extra mile by using violence and other things. Believe me when I say, that I already saw things in life that are much more horrible as Superman at worlds end and tht they can be compared to radical groups in different "opinions" whatsoever.
And honestly by "watching" and "reading" this piece of crap I am remembered about such persons which is really just bullshit, because... well, it is DC. I don`t want to be remembered by DC about such a thing. If I want to read something about "ideology" and other ideas going horrible wrong based on different view of lifes, I read
V for Vendetta, Spiegelmans Maus or "with bar feets through hiroshima" (or how this manga is claled in America)
But not DC. DC is for me in some examples "deep" but mostly it is just entertainment.
and I am not entertained by people comiting murdeer and going to war for... what? In fact, do we ever hear what is exaclty the point for this in the special? I had to read wikipedia and to watch your other video to get the information, that they "started" because of Wonder Woman arrested and some sort of weapon. Oh and some reasons which would spoiler the crap of the next few issues.
Well...
as said before, good luck, break a leg and if you are finished with this thing, burn it down.
• TKWolfman
Wow. I complained about series like Infinite Crisis and Civil War forcing readers to buy extra comics for plot points, but this is the worst case yet. Crossovers are awesome, true, but I hate it when they're used to make people buy more comics they shouldn't have to buy.

Though I'm of two minds about the whole arrows thing. We are talking about the Amazons, after all. These are women right out of Greek mythology, where a lion's pelt is as good as a bulletproof vest these days. Just sayin. Then again, being able to shoot a fighter pilot in the neck during flight makes as much sense as shooting an arrow through some guy's head while he's driving a speedboat in the middle of Crystal Lake! ...sorry, wrong tangent.

Oh, and I'd ask Spoony about his therapist for ongoing series like this. I'm sure he needs some kind of medication to get through FFVIII. XP
• Zoltan  - it hurts
Dear god, this comic sucks so hard i cant beleive it.
Just one question:
Why the hell did you buy it???
It's not even some obscure rarity as US-1 for example.
Anyway, its a noble thing to torture yourself for our entertainment, but this comic is so horrible, it makes even the review hard to watch... :X

Well I don't blame ya. DC always overprices their collections. Well not always I think I have Infinite Crisis and Identity for cheap but still not as nice as Marvel's trades.

Also most bad comics (mainly the dark ages) are in the 50 cent bin. I landed 12 comics for 10 bucks and they all were in the dark age. Even though 3 of them were Spiderman before clone saga and they are Really good.
• ElementalHero  - Wait.... What?

Oh dear...Linkara's having a Spoony Breakdown. *hugs and pats on the head* There there, dear, you'll get through this just fine. :)

But oh my GOD! This IS a terrible comic! The artwork may be gorgeous (and I'm a huge sucker for good art), but I'm relieved that I never actually read this. I can feel myself going into FANGIRL RAGE mode just hearing the review, and I hope to the gods that this one is relentlessly stabbed with a pointy stick many many times.
• mmntw26  - Another great review, Linkara
avatar
I must say, even though it will probably cause you several months of therapy and weeks of medications, I can't wait for you to review the next comics in the series...

I also like all the Spoony references in this as well. If Doctor Insano comes in once again, just tell the Amazons to through their longswords and pointy sticks at him...
• QDoggyDogg  - WTF?!
Is that King Kong on the last page of the first issue?
• FurikoMaru  - Head, meet Desk. Desk, this is Head. Shake hands,

Oh dear.

This... is a fanfic. Honestly, is there any other way that logic of this calibre would be feasible to anyone? Was the writer going through a nasty divorce, or something?

Wait, weren't there already "psycho bitch"-esque Amazons distinct from the Themiscyran ones? Bana somethingorothers? Wait, wasn't Artemis one of those - as in the chick who just said that the invasion doesn't make sense? *is a confused and frustrated little manga geek*
• Linkara
avatar
We'll get to the Bana-Mighdall next video.
• The_Hyphenator
Wait...these are the friendly Amazons who are blindly complying with orders to go to war with a nation that...never did anything to them directly?

I don't mind comics that address social issues, but all the comics and events that attempted to "examine" the Iraq War sucked donkey balls. The Civil War killed Cap and retroactively divorced Spidey...and then there's this mess. I really don't understand how crap like this makes it to press. Don't they have editors to tell the writers when they, you know, suck?

Anyway, great video, Linkara.
