02.19.2009 - 21:15 | Nightwing83Classic! One of your absolute best! And I'm not just saying that!
I saw this earlier on his blogspot account. I loved... LOVED that cheesy exchange toward the end:
"Bad guy: I give... I give!!!
SuperPro: No, you recieved a [whatever]."

02.19.2009 - 22:11 | Yaoi Huntress EarthGreat review. Maybe the story could've worked if it was done as an over-the-top parody.

Lika you're on to something how about a comic starring a team up between Gordon Ramsay and Groundskeeper Willie?

Good review of a comic I unfortunately owned. I got it in one of those Marvel value packs you used to get at those warehouse stores. There were odd issues of Spidey, Avengers, Silver Surfer, Fantastic Four and then came this bombshell.
This is why the NFL and supers don't mix! It's like mixing the WWF and Football! Which they tried to do and failed miserably.
Still, good review Linkara. You also reminded me of the days when Spidey was actually readable. Sure he barely appeared in this comic. But, at least his SOUL was intact!

Hats off to you Linkara (ours, not yours, obviously). Another classic. And if I had Photoshop or any artistic skill at all, the "LAUGH DAMN YOU, IT'S FUNNY!" frame would be a t-shirt entry. FELLOW FANS! Get on that!
Anyway, I like how you even referenced the complaints that you overdo OMD jokes...and then used that to do more than ever. :P You are a clever, clever man. I also like how at the end, you almost-sorta-kinda find a GOOD thing to come out of the deal in OMD--they can use it to make this incident never happen. ;)

02.20.2009 - 04:30 | NinjaGodzillaSpeaking of GI JOE, why was he gonna fight Quick Kick???
Great review.

02.20.2009 - 04:50 | tim333I have this one. A comic shop around here had it in their "free - take it off our hands" bin. Hilariously bad.
Edit - actually, after watching this, I don't have this one - the one I have has the origin story briefly referred to in this one! Is there actually more than one NFL Superpro #1? Well, not exactly - mine is the "special edition", according to the Overstreet guide. Seriously, that story is way worse than this one. His origin is so stupid as to make you cry:
He's wrapped up in old football reel-to-reel films (???) and "while I thrashed around, trying to get out of my bindings, I accidentally kicked down the vat of experimental plastics. It spilled over me -- BURNING hot -- I screamed. ...Then the overhead extinguishers turned on -- I was drenched in chemical foam, gasoline, plastics and chemicals from the old films..."
Holy shit. I mean, superhero origins are always implausible, but come on! What is this, chemical roulette?
-
Yes. Yes it is. Although it's not trendy to get your powers from "chemicals" or "radioactivity" anymore. Today it's viruses and "genetics".
I could've almost respected this comic if he'd gotten his powers from a serious case of Football Fever. :D

02.20.2009 - 04:58 | rageofkyubiiWow, they managed to get one of the most well known superheros in their comic....and theyd nothing with him in the slightest. Amazing.
And come to think of it, the guy couldn't play football anymore because of injuries, yet he can but on a super-suit and fight crime? Football's apparently more dangerous.
Anyways, great review. I especially liked the "One Last Day" References(seriously, what was up with that?) and the joke explinations. Now go treat yourself to a GOOD comic for once.

:([/quote]
Don't feel bad man, I had like 8 or 9 issues plus Issue 0.
I guess this means i need to commit seppuku or something...damn.
Great stuff Linkara, i love what you do man, some of my fondest memories are working in a Comic book store with my dad when i was younger, and by "Work" i mean sitting around just reading comics.

02.20.2009 - 05:44 | Dectilon - So... it's a comic? As awful an idea something like Superpro is, don't heroes/villains talk like this (and to themselves) in almost every super hero comic ever made? ~~
And I don't think he needs to worry about getting sued. I mean, vigilantism is a crime to begin with, so why not pile on some other crap just to mess with people.

02.20.2009 - 06:49 | ThaluikhainSo...Linkara has something that happens when he mentions something specific as well? Hmmm...
Oh...was there a pun on "dia-bollockical" at the end, about the assassin who kicks people in the crotch, or was it just me?
He was a GI JOE figure for heaven's sake!
