Man should have seen this coming I mean it's not really horror yet it fits with the story line so well then again didn't know there was a comic adaptation of 2001 a space odyssey though should have there seems to be comic adaptations of most movies both good and bad.

oh and damn How long did it take you to set up the star trek set?
  • shinigamiespada
    avatar
the star trek set belonged to an associate and/or friend of his.
  • handtohand94
so in other words lord vice is a digimon?
  • ThatGuyInTheHeadband
    avatar
What better form is there for something that wishes to destroy a pokemon. XD
  • Rue_Ryuzaki2
    avatar
Maybe Lord Vyce will one day be able to find a way to digivolve into a stronger, more secure form.
  • Mousy Voice
    avatar
Since he's related to MissingNo., I think he's more better classified as a Pokémon.
  • Sewblon
    avatar
@Mousy Voice: We don't really know that Lord Vyce is related to Missing Number since we don't know for a fact that Lord Vyce is The King of Worms. It is possible that Lord Vyce is a clockwork soldier himself who The King of Worms created to act as a surrogate and decoy so that The King of Worms could create more clockwork soldiers and expand his power-base safely and secretly.

I like the new outfit. also, was the Lanipator at the end?

Is it weird that the digital battle between Vyce and Nimue gave me flashbacks to the one in the finale of IGPX?
  • DestinyDecade
Star Trek nostalgia... so much nostalgia.

And yeah, I'm happy you dedicated it to Marcus Almand. God rest his soul.

And loving the Pokemon reference here.
  • Morgil
    avatar
I hope this doesn't come off as insensitive, but who is Marcus Almand?
  • TheGTB
edited, written & drawn by Jack Kirby...hmm i take it he really liked the movie then lol, even kings can be fan boys too i suppose

I can't really say I'm a fan of 2001: A Space Odyssey. It's too weird (even for by my standards... which is saying a lot), not to mention kinda slow and draggy. Though I'm not the most patient person to begin with...

Still, awesome review, the battle between Nimue and Vyce in particular was great, and your new outfit is pretty badass. Here's to another five years of comic reviews!

(Sees the stinger) Aw @#$&! Here we ago again...!
  • WhovianUnlimited
It was better before you changed outfits...JK XD.

In all seriousness, I can't help but comparing this to the Doctor's wardrobe change when he regenerates. It just felt right.

NOW TO VANQUISH VICE ONCE AND FOR ALL!

I hope Vice doesn't kill you and take over the show, Linkara D'=

Loved the back and forth banter between Linkara and Jerris. Was it all scripted or was there some ad-libbing in there?

The ending makes perfect sense the cyber mats seem more like clock work soldiers than nimue given that they are actual robots rather than nimue who is an artificial intelligence and not even the original one for the ship so in the traditional sense the cyber mats make more sense to be what the king of worms would control also I wonder will vice team up with the king of worms will there be a 3 way death match or will vice work with linkara to kill the king of worms since it is a relative of the entity .

Oh quick continuity question linkara in the episode with the entity it claims vice could never kill it but was able to diminish it which is why it led him to you so you could defeat him. Now if nimue has control of the ship and now has full access shouldn't she be able to employ those same counter measures vice used to diminish the entity. Or more to the point why couldn't she use those same methods vice used when you fought the entity.
and yes I know that this last question is incredibly nit picky but I'm the kind of person who usually thinks way to much about things like this.
  • Vallraffs  - Oh my god.
    avatar
That was amazing! The new outfit seemed kinda off, but I guess that's to be expected. And since I haven't seen it in action yet, I can't say for sure. And Lanipator as Alan (Allen, Allan?)? Did not see that one coming. And here I was expecting him to be a secret villain. Though, I suppose he still could be.

I'm really sorry about your friend. If the obituary I found was for the same Marcus Almand, then I'll try to read some of his books. Maybe then I'll be honoring his memory, or something like that.

Gunslinger says what I was thinking. Also nice Aux. control room.

Also: The show was much better before you changed outfits =B. but honestly the only thing I dislike about it is the shoulder things. but I'm sure the outfit as a whole will grow on me.

Also also: Please be more careful when you gloat.

    Happy 5 years.
  • Spiritkitten  - Lanipator?!? why? how?
    avatar
...that is cool, but where are you going with that or is he a random cameo...but knowing your storylines you usually have some reason for the decisions you make...right?

Anyway, I look forward to seeing you at Youmacon, will you be wearing that new outfit? It makes you look like Sherlock Holmes, nice! I like it. Now you just need the pipe! lol!

About the movie... Many people say that the first act is very difficult to understand. I don't get it. I think it's pretty straightforward and easy to understand. Sure, it doesn't use any dialogue and only shows, rather than tells, but otherwise it's quite simple, IMO.

The only thing I don't really like about the movie is the ending weirdness. It was deliberately made weird and random just for the sake of being weird and random. Very much unlike the first act, it has no meaning or significance. Trying to give it any meaning is futile because the authors didn't have anything in mind when they did it. It's just like throwing paint at a wall and trying to decipher some kind of meaning to it: There isn't none. It's just random.

I find that a bit cheap, and not worthy of a great genius like Kubrick.
  • LuciusMadgloom  - NIMUE XD
YAY... damn was I happy you got her back.. Kinda feels like being a kid, screw it she's awesome. LOVED her dialog with Vice what better way to get under the skin of a megalomaniac such as Vice than to call him puny, while making it painfully clear. Mmm... sweet smell of an withering ego xP ... Great king of worms intro very fitting considering the lore you used for him in the show BTW Eee... can we expect Margaret's involvement in the fight against the worm king?? Cause I kinda feel like she was refering to him(partially)the last time we saw her.

OMG is that a Malcolm Reynolds cosplay you used there?? Awesome :D you know Given the nerd fame Firefly has I can't believe I'm the 1st to point this out O_o

What better way to end the Halloween season on AT4W than the comic adaptation of a Stanley Kubrick movie. ...Wait, what?

Where the hell did you find time to make a replica of the Enterprise bridge?! ... mean, holy crap, this is awesome!

The first time I saw 2001 from start to inish was in my sci-fi/fantasy literature class in college after we read the original Arthur C. Clark short story, and I now own the movie on DVD. Also, I most certainly agree that adapting a Kubrick film into a comic is pretty weird to say the least.

I take it that the lead caveman can speak perfect english because the monolith turned him into Vandal Savage from the DC Universe.

23:17- He sticks his tongue out like a dog.

The movie actually makes more sense than the comic, and the comic as a whole is more trippy than the final act of the movie.

Nice ending to another good storyline.
  • Bobzeaux
I think I missed something. Who was that guy at the end who interrupted the dramatic reveal?

As for complaining about the new look, I would've just assumed that this was going to be a costume for the next couple of episodes, like when the REAL Linkara was searching for magic users while the hologram took over the show. Btw, what do you CALL those jackets with the little half-cape-things? I've been looking for one of those for a long time, but it's hard to look for something you don't have a name for. lol
  • Linkara
    avatar
*Shrugs* Some people call it a longcoat or a trench coat or a detective coat.

The half-cape thing in the sewing instructions for it refer to it as a capelet.
  • Firelock
    avatar
I always thought they were called Duster Jackets
  • Gift of the Magi
    avatar
It IS a duster, because of the mantle (that long drape of cloth over the shoulders.) If it was separate, yes you you would call that part a capelet or "shoulder cape" ala the old Robin costumes.

A longcoat is thinner and tapers more toward the ground. A "detective coat" IS a trench coat. What you created seems to be a duster made of felt or something rather thick...such looks a bit....odd.

I like the vest and tie, because it shows your growth and maturity as a character...the coat however doesn't seem to fit.

Also....Luis, please do not take this the wrong way as you are one of the very few reasons I still come to TGWTG but...you have to ditch the hat. Over the last 5 years you have gain a bit of size, especially in the face, and now the hat is starting to look small to the point of nearly being comical. I would go for a full, wide-brimmed fedora that sat a bit lower over your forehead. It would match your features better and as well as add or the "under the rim angry glare" shots.

Love the new coat Linkara, reminds me of the outfit Peter Cushing wore when he played Van Helsing in the Hammer Dracula movies, very badass :D. Good luck hunting Vice and the King of Worms!
  • animerocksautistic  - To Bobzeaux.
Not sure if someone answered your question already, but the guy that interrupted Linkara was Lanipator from Team Four Star.

As for who Lanipator was playing, in a previous episode Linkara mentioned having an FBI contact due to his spaceship orbiting the Earth. I assume Lanipator is that contact.
  • Vallraffs  - To animerocksautistic
    avatar
Well, he actually said that he had a contact/liaison in the US government named Alan, and that is who Lanipator played in this episode.
  • Minion of Yahtzee  - Sooooooo

I think we may have found the new Marville here, only instead of Bill Jemnas rambling like a madman about how Wolverine was the first human and that Duckbills were Jewish, we instead have someone of actual quality giving us fresh WTF fuel. Looking forward to five more years and for next week where we take a look at the first adventure of the Silver Age Flash, should be fun.

2:05 - ooOOOOOO, Linkara almost swear.

4:48 - I'm stunned. I have no idea that you made a set for a control room Linkara.

17:30 - What exactly were you trying to do? You took off your coat, and you were rolling up your sleeves. Did it get hot in that set? EDIT: Never mind. What I do love about you changing your appearance sort of reminded me of the 8th Doctor putting on his own clothes when he was in the hospital. Nice touch of nostalgia there, bud.

    39:48 - ooooOOOOO, Linkara swear.

When I first saw Lanipator showing up, I immediately busted up laughing!

Before, I didn't like these stories that you write in your episodes, only because I want my main focus to be on the review, and nothing else. However, I'm slowly, but surely starting to have some appreciation about them. It's hard for me to explain it, but at least I'm having something positive to say about it.
  • Maria Mystery
I think he was taking off some of his clothes because they were going going toward the sun.
  • Merklyn236
Just to the point the viewer relaxes, and then BOOM....

Glad to see Nimue was able to get her own back at Vyce. He deserved it. And her saying that her chosen method was her favorite was chilling.

EXCELLENT way to end this chapter. Well done, Linkara.
  • Psykmoe
The McRib is already a regular menu item here. It's pretty much utopia, yeah.
  • Mousy Voice  - Wow...Just wow...!

Where do I begin? This is one of the best story arcs you've done yet and that ending sure was badass. First of all, the exchange between Linkara and Jarus was hilarious and well written. The reveal of the new bridge as well as the animated segments with Nimue and Vice was very unexpected but in a good way. Although, I do have to wonder, where the hell did you build that set? It doesn't look like you would have room in your apartment to build the whole thing.

The animated parts were certainly a nice touch. So far, I've been so used to seeing your mechanical partners as puppets, blue screen effects, or as static objects, so seeing Nimue with actual eyes and a face was a really cool sight.

Then there's the new outfit. Hmm! I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it. After 5 years, I do appreciate a new look. In fact, the attire looks like something a classical Doctor might wear. Although it does seem a little excessive with too much to look at. I guess I just prefer the simple look. Of course, that's just first impressions. Perhaps, just like with the new Pollo puppet, it just needs to grow on me some more.
  • zipperintheback  - ooOOHHhh.....*slaps face*. Now I get it.

    "Clockwork Soldiers"....."King of Worms".......

Cybermats. ...Well, now I just feel silly.
How the Pacific Rim Hellmouth did I not put that together?! I would feel disappointed in myself, except that that last-second reveal shot was so awesome that I'm kind of glad that I didn't put two and two together. Sometimes, it pays to be blissfully ignorant.

Enterprise bridge.....GLLLOOORRRIOUS . As was the "Reason You Suck" speech given by Nimue.

"My plans are never stupid! Now take the helm and set a course for the sun!" --Somebody needs to put this on a t-shirt, stat.

SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY!! IT'S THE SEDUCTIVE SUCCUBUS AGAINST THE MECHANICAL MENACE!! COME SEE VIRA THE SHE-DEMON TAKE ON HAL 9000 AT SPACE-SMACKDOWN: SPACE-SUMMER SLAMFEST!!
--sponsored by your local Spacey's. Spacey's: It's good food--in space.

...Has to do with 2001 wut?

...In a game of chess, the King is always the last piece to attack.
    ...Are we all afraid?...

I'm sorry, I still can't get ovr the fact that you have a Star Treck bridge now!

    That was brilliant!

And I swear, most of this episode felt like a nod to Neil Gaiman's "The Doctor's Wife" story * A *

    Also that new outfit.
    Dude.
    DUUUUDE!

For a moment I thought that my Firefly joke from months ago was actually gonna be the canon outfit.

    And also, the review.
    It was great.
Seriously, that was some weeeeeeeeird comic book adaptation schtuff.
  • DoctorGeagle
Aww. I was totally expecting Nimue to do a review at the end like Pollo did those couple of times.
  • docleo2001  - What?!?!
Regardless of the interpretation of 2001 it still doesn't make much sense and any explanations are pure speculation for the reader or movie watcher to decide. Maybe that's the point. Make up your own mind and make it mean whatever you think it means. I personally think it is kind of interesting but overall boring and overrated.
  • Sliced Ice
    avatar
Linkara, you have certainly outdone yourself with the massive Star Trek bridge. Jaeris has grown on me as a character and I think the blond wig looks somehow better than it did before.

It really is about time to take the fight to someone else for a change. And, knowing how to do that without becoming too egotistical and falling to evil, Linkara will do it right!
